Are they likely to use that WHOLE area? Seems like the King Kobra/Thunder Road land would be big enough alone.
I had a loooong look at the site from up there on Saturday and there's a few things I noticed. One is how much space Son o Beast occupied, it really is amazing to see the real estate that has opened up due to it's removal. Another is just how few trees that are there now. I was always under the (mistaken?) impression that that area was fairly wooded. Maybe the trees that existed were removed during the razing of SOB, or have been excavated away in preparation for the new project. Or maybe they were never there. The other thing of note is the lack of terrain that everyone seems to imagine. Just out of range in this photo, to the upper right, is the area where that giant helix lived, what was it, the rose bowl? (I just remember it as about 30 seconds of torture) I noticed the land slopes down and away quite a bit in that area, otherwise the site is fairly flat. It slopes up a bit, I think, toward the green house at the top of the shot. Anyway, it seems pretty clear that if we're hoping for a terrain hugging romp through the woods that's not going to be the case.
The footers are visible where the go carts were. Travis mentioned he read that's where the station will be, and those parallel line footers look like they may be for the transfer area or something. As I walked that direction on Saturday I could visualize the perfect place for an entrance plaza and the station behind that big wall they've built.
Notice too, SOB's station is still standing.
You mentioned the terrain... Every time I read someone comment about the great terrain of that area, I wonder to myself if I am missing something. I always think to myself, "What terrain?"
I wonder when we will hear the announcement? Am I jumping ahead a little bit too far? lol

Oh, you know, they'll tease along til the season is almost over, in spite of the fact that those of us with trained eye will figure it out. I remember Maverick was like that, most of it was well under way before they announced. There was some mystery, like the stacked launches, and some surprises to reveal but not much by the time they got around to it.
It seems like we can rely on the view from the Eiffel Tower from here on out for clues.
Maybe they'll install a large quaking crate with something in there groaning, trying to break free.
There is a very deep valley the runs from Flight Deck to behind Adventure express and on down behind Firehawk. The land beyond that was part of the Wild Animal Safari and while some areas were wooded, Some were grassland and had ponds.
So if they did build a area back there, a couple bridges would be needed at least to keep the existing access road that runs down that valley the length of the park .
Yes SOB's station is still there but it's used for Halloween, Why remove a existing structure, quene and potential storage area?
There is a ton of room and planned right they could put at least three large rides without ever letting guest access the area except on the rides. Its almost 80 acres.
Personally I think the whole Hype thing goes on way to long and has gone overboard. Granted, with all the area off limits to park patrons, construction could go on all season and we could figure it out quickly. But if it doesn't it will be Sept or so when next years passes go on sale that we get any hard facts.
While a B&M inverted would be a fine choice, look at the last 5 years at the 3 major ex-Paramount parks under Cedar Fair. None of these parks have a B&M inverted coaster.
Canada's Wonderland / Kings Dominion / Kings Island:
Phase 1: B&M Hyper / Recycled B&M Floorless / B&M Hyper
Phase 2: Windseeker & DA / Windseeker & DA / Windseeker & DA.
Phase 3: Giga Coaster / Giga Coaster / ___ _____?
A new wooden coaster in SoB's spot seems like a risky choice. Steel. Kings Island is not handling large crowds well and needs reliable coaster capacity. B&M. Type? Fill in the blank.
I'd love to be totally wrong and shocked with an Intamin pre-fab or something, but Cedar Fair has been particularly predictable the last several years.
^ I musta missed that tease, Tyler. Help a brotha out and tell me what you've heard, woodja?

OK. I've done quite a bit of research a few weeks ago and here's what I found:
http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/forums/roller-coasters-theme-parks/222878
and here's an article about what Kings Dominion released themselves:
This is the picture that Kings Dominion released:
On some coaster websites I've read that this is either a height/speed record breaker, a wing coaster, a B&M invert, or a park expansion. It could mean anything.
What do additions at other parks have to do with KI? They're not indicative of the company's intentions for one specific circumstance.

Did you visit the behind the thrills link?
Yes. Its from August of last year. The countdown began on September 12 and it led to the announcement of Planet Snoopy.
Even if the "Countdown" began last September, it doesn't mean it's talking about a future event. They might not have been talking about a kids area.

KI has an Invertigo, kiddie invert, and suspended. CW has a Zamperla flyer (ugh!), kiddie invert, and suspended. KD has an awesome inverted in Volcano, but no suspended or kiddie invert.
Hmmm, by this math it would seem that KD is the park due for an inverted, and it should probably be a kiddie (maybe they can copy Fun Spot and go with lapbars....PLEASE).
For KI though, I'm still going with a full-circuit inverted, probably B&M. On the other hand (monkey wrench, meet works)...maybe a Vekoma like this one?
As stated above, Tyler, this is old news. The "record" is that of having the largest Planet Snoopy in the chain.
