The biggest and most exciting new attraction in Kings Island's 36-year history, a 5,282-foot long steel hyper roller coaster named Diamondback, will change the landscape for thrill seekers when the ride makes its debut in April 2009.
Diamondback will be the tallest, fastest and meanest roller coaster at Kings Island. The ride will stand 230 feet at its highest point with a first drop of 215 feet at a 74 degree angle and reach speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour. The ride features 10 vertical drops overall including drops of 193, 131, 129, 110 and 106 feet, two helixes - one at 323 degrees and the other at 287 degrees - and a spectacular splashdown ending. The ride experience on Diamondback will last more than three heart-pounding minutes.
See the Diamond Back site from Kings Island.
The thing that's different about this compared to Nitro is the shape of the hills. Nitro has those sharp hills to accommodate the much shorter single-row trains. These are longer hills like the floaty Intamin rides. And there are lots of them, paired with a whole bunch of really long drops.
I dig it.

Finally, a reason to go back to Kings Island!

BTW, anybody going to Strickers on Sunday?
I sure hope we see some after dark ERT next year.
It will be interesting to check out the seats considering i have only rode one such B&M like this and it wasn't Behemoth. The front of the trains and the logos and such are about as wicked looking as anything Cedar Fair has done to this point. Although im still trying to figure out the skulls as of late ie Voodoo, but it isn't a kiddy coaster and is justified with the logo for sure.
Somehow the snakes still haven't left Kings Island completely.
This will be the first time I've missed August at Stricker's since I first started going. We leave for Dollywood on Wednesday and were saving every last penny for the fun we'll be having there. But, if they plan to do a Sunday in October, post the date if you find out while there. Best little park I know...love Tornado...and love the food!
Diamondback looks totally mindblowing to me! That side of the park is going to look so wild with this addition. Did anybody make it to the park for the unveiling today? I got an e-mail about it, was planning on going, but ran out of time to get there.
