Kings Island announces Diamondback

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The biggest and most exciting new attraction in Kings Island's 36-year history, a 5,282-foot long steel hyper roller coaster named Diamondback, will change the landscape for thrill seekers when the ride makes its debut in April 2009.

Diamondback will be the tallest, fastest and meanest roller coaster at Kings Island. The ride will stand 230 feet at its highest point with a first drop of 215 feet at a 74 degree angle and reach speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour. The ride features 10 vertical drops overall including drops of 193, 131, 129, 110 and 106 feet, two helixes - one at 323 degrees and the other at 287 degrees - and a spectacular splashdown ending. The ride experience on Diamondback will last more than three heart-pounding minutes.

Wow. Looks like Nitro.
Very nice!
Sounds like a winner to me. Good name, too.
What, no complaints yet?

:)

I see Cedar Fair is going to continue to use the curious seating arrangement that debuted on Behemoth. I hope the front of the train ends up looking like it does in the rendering- pretty cool. As AJ said, looks a lot like Nitro... but with Nitro being my favorite steel coaster, I see that as a very good thing.
My only complaint is having to wait 9 months to ride it!! :(

I'm never going to KI again. This is the worst ride they could add. I thought it was going to be 500ft tall? I thought it was going to have loops? I thought the colors were going to be cool! The name is totally lame! It doesn't even go fast enough.

Nice going Cedar FAIL!!!

;)

Nice! It's about time KI had a good ride. :) And only one trim!

I do like how the whole ride is huge, but kind of compact, that first drop is over the queue for what, The Crypt? I haven't been CFKI in a while.

This looks great. I love the slight curvature at the bottom of both drops one and two. About time Kings Island got good steel :o)!

I'm digging the snake heads on the front of the trains. Nice touch to what looks to be a good ride. I'm glad to have a B&M hyper closer to home now.

I might even get the hubby to make a trip for this one. He loves B&M hypers.

Just not enough charm. ;)
Why couldn't we have gotten a Ferris Wheel instead?

But seriously, what a great looking ride! Im REALLY excited about this!
My wife noticed that they are selling 09 passes already as well.

Hooray for Badnitrus!
Looks like this ride is gonna have some "fangs" a& a good "bite" to it. Sorry, bad joke.
Finally a reason to go back. I haven't been there since 2003.
You're not alone Matt. I can't get them to load either. Guess I'll have to try later this evening.
Unfortunately, those fangs and bite will come with a nasty rattle . . . ;)
