King Cobra's End at PKI Confirmed

Koaster King,

I definitely do not think Adventure Express has the best chances of a coaster leaving. AE has by far the highest thoroughput of any ride at PKI.

As far as themeing, quite honestly I dont think PKI is too concerned with that these days.... I mean we have TR:TR in Rivertown, Thornberries (essentially) in Rivertown.... etc etc etc.

As far as the other *potential* removal.... I would not consider it a small attraction by any means.... popular? Yeeeeesssss.

I dunno, but some reason when I read that post Shaggy just made about a "popular" and "large" attraction being removed. Call me crazy, but when I read that I have something in my gut that is yelling "Son of Beast!" I doubt it, and I hope it isn't true, but that's just my instinct talking.

Can't be Sonny. If anything, perhaps Top Gun?

This is a very sad day for me. If you go over to pkizone.com you can see a photo of a crane taking down the King Cobra. I didnt want to believe it until I could see it, but now that I can see it I dont want to believe it. The King Cobra was the first looping coaster I ever rode and just last year on closing day I got my girlfriend on it and it was her first looping coaster. She loved it, I am just happy that she got the chance to ride it. Hopefully the King Cobra will rise again and live on in another park.
Coaster Aaron, that's what my original gut feeling was as well for SOB, but I really think the initial investment was way too big to take it down now. The most popular rides in general to the park seem to be FOF, Face/Off, The Beast, Drop Zone, and SOB. There will be a lot of pissed off people if any of those disappear, F/O probably being the least disappointment. But Shaggy, by what you see in the park, what adult coaster has the biggest likeliness to be removed from PKI besides AE? It could just be opinion and not what's really going to happen.

And personally, I would rather PKI lose both TG and F/O before AE. But that's just crazy me. ;)

Hmm.. What could Shaggy be talking about with a large removal? My guess is that Oktoberfest and the festhause will be removed/rethemed. I remember Shaggy hinting to it a couple years ago when the themeing was removed from the inside of the building. And it is the last area of the park to be touched up. I look for next year to have a revamped/rethemed Oktoberfest area with the festhause or Viking ship removed. This is just my guess.

It's strange that no one is even mentioning the White Water Canyon ride. It's an extremely popular ride during the hot days of summer, and it also happens to be in the same area (Rivertown) that all the other improvements are taking place. etc. wild thornberries and TR:TR. Its also pretty large.

Also, I barely remember it even being open often last year when I went approx. 25 times.

I doubt it's another coaster. I would guess Viking Fury or Phantom Theater.

Dennis,

I agree. I don't think the 'possible' removal of another attraction will be a coaster.

I think I might have caused some needless panic. Like I said, it is all speculation until we see or hear something official.

But I will say this.... you guys are on the wrong track. You need to think opposite of what you have been posting. It's scary for me to think what might be removed/replaced. But let's just wait until we know for sure.

Festhaus /Octoberfest is not going anywhere. I do not recall ever posting anything about the Festhaus being removed at anytime. I have posted on this board less than a year, by the way so I could not have hinted at such a couple years back.

On URC back when I worked at the park I posted that the Operations department was re-structuring Octoberfest and it's crews were getting overhauled. Perhaps that is what you recall.

I apologize Shaggy for claiming you made any such statements, but I thought I remember you hinting to changes to the festhause a couple years ago on URC. Now I hope you don't mind but can we read anything into your statement "It's scary for me to think what might be removed/replaced." Could Phantom Theater be on the block and replaced with a haunted Scooby Doo attraction?

Again this is just guess, I have no information to prove any of my statements.

I am not agry about it, just curious. I do not know of, nor have ever heard of any such changes coming to Octoberfest. Not that they aren't needed.

Here is something I dreamed up last fall for PKI.... Imgaine the inside of the Festahus... the large seating area in the center having a spinning wild mouse installed. I still think it is a great idea and the name "Bavarian Clockworks" would have fit perfectly. The Festhaus could have been expanded to accompany more seating, or the just have the eating establishments moved elswhere...like in a re-vamepd Bier Garten. Funny though, when I mentioned this idea to PKI, I got a big laugh followed with a "Why would we ever remove our largest and most profitable eating establishment?" type response. Oh well! I say you cannot make an omlette without breaking some eggs! Hee hee!

Again, I think many of you are reading waaaay to much into my "removal" post. Just wait it out. Don't worry about what may or may not go. To be honest, things change so rapidly at PKI I have trouble keeping up!

They just repainted the Adventure Express trains so count this one out.

I just heard on IRC that they might be removing The Screamin' Demon! ;)

Heck I dunno. Maybe they're removing the Eiffel Tower.

Let me think about the attractions at PKI for a moment...

Hmmm...One attraction in Coney seems appropriate with Paramount at the helm, but upkeep has got to be expensive, and it's a "oncer". And removing it would enable the expansion of Coney Mall into currently undeveloped territory...I think there is even some flat land in that area.

Over in PAZ, there is an attraction that these days never seems to be terribly popular, even when the weather is hot and miserable. It was a pretty dramatic ride when it opened, but it's not all that impressive by today's standards. Only thing is, it doesn't sit on a very large piece of ground, unless the park is thinking about doing away with the shed. Which, at the moment, I seriously doubt. In any case, this ride could be removed and a larger, updated version installed on the opposite side of the park where it would make more logical sense, a bit like the realignment Cedar Point did a decade ago.

Also in PAZ, King Cobra is leaving, opening up a chunk of space. Would it be too much to hope for another Oktoberfest attraction to replace it, to join Adventure Express and the big ship? BTW, Shaggy: I think Adventure Express is actually #2 for hourly capacity, at least during peak season. Don't underestimate the capacity of the KI & MV RR!

Rivertown just got its makeover with the removal of KCKC, installation of TR:TBS, and the back end collapsed into Nick Central.

There is a lot of talk about yanking Phantom Theater, a building which has always housed a dark ride. Thing is, removing that attraction doesn't accomplish much on its own...I mean, it removes a maintenance headache (not that Phantom Theater isn't reliable, but that it has...er...sloppy patrons) but the building houses a whole bunch of stuff including the dark ride, a show, and I think there are some Park Services type things in there. So closing the ride might not accomplish much unless they need the real estate for something else, or unless they opt to re-do the dark ride yet again.

At the end of International Street, the one Antique Car ride has been gone for ages, but the track is still there. That ride could be removed and the other reconfigured to make that island useable again. Also, I don't know how popular the shed is across from it, basically at the foot of the tower. For the moment, I suspect the shed is safe. But I could see that same show moved to a smaller venue if they needed the room.

It's just some random thoughts, nothing more than that. As for my track record, I predicted in 1992 that Cedar Point's next major coaster would be built on the Oceana midway. Turned out I was only off by a decade. :)

This thread is getting more and more intriguing.

Dave, I can't think of a single ride in Coney Mall that is a "oncer" and also allows for expansion. The entire section is walled in by the Racer, so that seems to be the only ride removal that would benefit the park. Yet I can think of a dozen reasons not to remove that ride.

Are you talking about the theater in the crotch of the Racer?

He let the contents of the bottle do the thinking; can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding.

First off, I'm sad to see King Cobra go. I loved the intense helix, even if the seats were a little uncomfortable. I can't say I'm suprised though, I knew it was coming down soon when I saw it get stuck on the lift hill for the 50th time last season. As of yesterday you can still see the lift hill and loop from Kings Island Drive.

The way I see it, the Action FX Theatre should be the next (if any) removal for PKI. When they built it, it was cool, but in making at the path's end they pretty much put a plug into the back of the park. Sure, it being an "action" theatre fits the Paramount scheme nicely, but from my experience it draws only minimal crowds (at a time at least) and I can't say I rode it more than once last season. Plus, if a movie is remotely successful they keep it in there for at least two years, which is no fun at all after four or five times. Just think of the possibilities for what could go in between the Racer turnarounds and further back.

Oh, and I hope that one person didn't see parts of Skyflyer laying around, because that would mean I'm out of a job :)

I think he's referring to the Days of 7th Smash Portal Thunder Factory ride (Paramount F/X ). Though @ PKD, at least, I've seen many kids get off and run right back around to ride it again.

Shoot-the-chutes seem to suck in general nowdays. If there is no theming to it, it would almost be better to just go to the Nick 'Green Slime' Zone to get wet.

But I've only been to PKI 3 times in my life so what do I know...

I like the idea that the KC plot would go to benefit the octoberfest area. I haven't been one to complain about the area's lack of rides (its a nice area, who gives a crap?) but Action Zone can get pretty congested as is.

Well, I am still not crying to much about Cobra. because I can ride an identical one in Canada, and a crappy version of it in Virginia.
And once again, I can only wonder why PKI would yank theirs first.
