Ya know I remember hearing a while back, back when the names of thw two upcharge attractions were "Xtreme SkyFlyer" and "XS Raceway" that Paramount was working on some Extreme Section. (read:Upcharge section)

The quip was "They are called Xtreme Skyflyer and XS Raceway because they cost EXtra to ride"

First off, are there any pics of these parts in the parking lot, who knows it could be for TR:TR. Another thing is one reason KC always had a long line is because it capacity is a little low compared to other coasters - 900 an hour. The Keel Boat Canal was closed all of 2001, part of the time it wasn't there I know it was torn down but maybe they will have KC fenced off so they can start building early like they did on TR:TR. On last thing, a lot of times when i'm at PKI the go karts only have about 2 people on it even on weekends. They can't be making that much money off of it. I say they tear that down also and combine its land and KC's land to put in something bigger.

I can agree with you both ways Beast_rocks.

One, your right, who knows if it's somthing for TR:TR or if it's just going to be stored for a while. And even if it where to be a slingshot, going in KC place, come on! They'd never get as much attention with a sling shot that you have to Extra for than they would for KC.

Secondly, even though KC's not gone yet, demolishing the go karts wouldn't be a bad idea seeing as whenever I visit PKI the only people at the go kart's are the ride ops.! It would make more sense if PKI were to build a new coaster or whatever in KC's place. Of course my post meens didly squat until anything is confirmed, just thinking of the possible solutions if there ever is one!

I agree with Sean F. in the fact that the park changes its ming quickly. Remember the Flight Commander?

Yes, and referring to Paramount Parks in general, I think we all remember those signs put up around PGA before 2k1. Can anyone say wild mouse ;)

First, you are mixing two posts on two different boards. One posted on URC and another posted here. Still, that does not matter, my point remains the same.

In neither post did I use the word "announcement" in terms of expecting to hear one from PKI about it. It would be silly for me to think that PKI, or any park would hold a press conference or media campain about any change that, quite frankly, the GP doesn't give a crap about. What I was saying was that I do not put any more faith into what a games person says than I do a post on a rumor board. I wait until either a) I see it for myself or b) I am told by an official rep of the park.

Now, I am not insiting this rumor cannot perhaps come true, but if you re-read my posts here or on URC you will see that all I have said is that at this point it IS still just a rumor.

I'm sorry Shaggy. I know what you meant, but I was just joking with you about an "official announcement" and how I was pretty sure that I wouldn't happen with a slingshot or the removal of KC if they did occur. So, don't think I was trying to be rude, just playing around. :)

Thanks Sean and Shaggy for all the other information and letting me know how quickly things are changed like that. I wasn't aware that parks actually could change their minds like that unless complaints, ride issues, etc. occured, but I'll keep that in mind. I had assumed that once you bought an attraction you really couldn't just give it back and that if you had all these mechanical problems like with KC, you wouldn't really want to change back the original intentions on what to do with it.

And Sean, I can back you up in saying that KC is still standing as of... today! So, as far as I know and saw, its just standing there for now with no activity.

I've heard that the crew for KC usually does the Skyflyer and DoT too, but my friend said that he will do both of those, but KC wasn't on the list with them this year. Maybe whether it will operate is still up in the air then.

Thanks!
Danny

Also Shaggy, did your "count" for new attractions for the season at PKI include upcharge attractions? If it does, I know what the "rumored" attractions are in the count. But of course, we know TR:TR is going to be there for a fact and I think it's fair to believe we'll get Meteor Attack as well. I apologize if you don't want me to repeat something here from URC that you said, and I will stop it if you would like me to do so. I just keep forgetting what my password is at URC.

Rideman, the unofficial count on upcharge attractions at PKI is... Skyflyer, Raceway, Climbing Wall, Laser Tag arena, Trampolines, Moving Sim by FOF, Helicopter Tours, Slingshot*, Ham on Rye VR sim*,... So 7 if the rumors are false. 9 if they are true. Maybe 8 if only one if true. I'm just disappointed we don't have mini golf, go karts, and a skyscraper... I don't mind about upcharge attractions if they're in good intentions and not just to rip something out and not decently replace it. But, its not my choice anyway.

*rumored at this point

Why don't they open it an advetise that this will be your last season to ride it, or something along those lines. Idon't really visit KI that often but to me that seems like the right thing to do. I would ride it again and enjoy riding it for the last time. I hope that it operates at some point this year.

Koaster King,

What can I say?... my heart was on my sleeve temporarily.

I wasn't coming down on you as much as I was trying to shed some light that my other statements were made on another message board. I guess I thought it might be confusing to others who do not read URC and really didn't understand my point.

Forgive me if I sounded harsh.

Quite frankly, and am extremely confused about the fate of KC. But as Sean brilliantly pointed out, I think PKI likes to change it's mind to keep most, if not all, of us on our toes. Hee hee.

Just when I have them figured out.... they go and get smart on me.

Costly as it may be to keep the KC in operation, why in the world would they give it up? I mean, it's a first of a kind. It ushered in a new generation of coasters.. The stand-up! PKI would be stupid to give this relic up so quickly for a measily little slingshot ride to keep competition stiff, you know? I simply don't understand why they would have the itch to even think about it. I sure would keep it for as long as it was safe to ride.

Danny,

I also drove by the park today and noticed KC still standing with no visible signs of demolishion just yet. =:^)

-Sean (who thinks PKI just doesn't like the KC initials considering this could very well be the third set of KC to be removed in a year =:^0)

Geez Sean! Are you ever in Columbus?

I spotted him In Hamilton OH tonight attending a Americana hitory and memories meeting that went something like this

The meeting tonight was basically a Butler county historical society
presentation and discussion of the parks history and memorys. The age group
ranged from a four year old to probably people in their 80's+.

The presentation was given by Scott Fowler who runs the Unofficial site of
Americana Amusement Park www.americanaamusementpark.com
Scott shared a ton of photos with us along with a general history of the park
and ride invoations that were made by the park.

Several ex employees from just about every decade of the parks existance were
in attendance along with others who shared memories from as far back as 1930.

One of the parks 1930-late 60's owners daughters was in attendance and she
cleared up several things that were previously unknown and should be updated on
Scotts site soon.

I must say the meeting was much more than I thought it would be and the Older
Generation was so fun to listen to it was increadible! Stories of men showing
off on the 20ft diving board to prove their prowess.
The park also had these rings, 6 total that you tried to swing Tarzan style
from one to the next over the lake. A bumper car ride that was pedal powered
and shaped like a race track. The park was also the first to have turnpike
cars and they for a time made and distibuted them to other parks

SFKK's Turnpike antique cars are the ones from Lesourdsville and were saved by
Ron Bernie in the 1990-91? Bathouse fire by physically rolling them out of the
building while the fire cheif yelled at him and threatend to arrest him!

The Bernstine Bears or at least some of them are at Jungle Jims Market in
Fairfield OH. along with the monorail from PKI's safari.

The only ride OFFICIALLY MISSING from Americana that was there when the park
closed is The Tempest which was bought by Park River corp when they ran the
park and they moved it to Coneys Island Cincy after the closure. The Serpant
(Galaxi) is for sale, and Unoffically I have herd that the Calypso ride will
not re-open if they open the park.

Many of the people there brought pictures from decades ago and Scott said that
if he could scan them he would gladly return them to the owners. Just before
the meeting broke up a genleman stated that he knew sombody from a Dayton News
station that had hours of videotape on the park and has the capsity to clean it
up and digitally remaster it. Im hoping something comes of that.

The official word about the parks opening is well NOTHING OFFICAL.
Emotionally Scott said that there is a concious effort to get the park open but
how soon is questionable.

There was also a member and historian from Park River corp there who was in
operations at Americana from 96-99 but he was not involved in closure or sale
of the park. I was hoping to ask him some questions on Cincy coney island but
was unable too :(

I enjoyed this meeting very much and would like to thank Scott Fowler and the
Butler Co. Historical Society for holding this meeting.

167 coasters and hopes to be over 200 by the end of 2002 :)

I just thought about this, but what if they should take down King Cobra, and move it to another place in the park? ;) That could be a possibility!

But why would it be for sale?

I fully expect the ride to be SBNO for a while, but I don't expect a Drachen Fire type situation. This is just an assumption, but I don't think PKI is likely to let the non-sale of the ride get in the way of whatever they plan on doing with that piece of land.

But I've been wrong before and I'm probably wrong again!

Well, if you ever hear about KC going to Terra Mitica, remember I and STABALD told you so. ;)

Heres What I think....

I looked at a pic on RCBD last night and saw how close it was to rip-cord, and go karts. IF this coaster does get demolished I'm thing a Richochet and a Pay to ride attraction. That's what I think........

John,

For some reason, lately I haven't spent much time in Columbus. For the second time in less than a week I was down in the Cincy area (last night was Hamilton). Next week I will be up North.

Chuck, thanks for typing up the highlights for the presentation. I learned quite a bit about the park including a nice little tid-bit on the possible future of the Eagle if the park decided to get rid of it.

However, from the sound of things, the park may not open this year once again. Brian Neil had a great idea when we were driving back to drop him off. He thought it would be a great idea if Americana would re-open on the 4th of July! I think that would be great!

Just a thought The last time I was at PKI was 2000 durring SOB's opening season. I noticed some land clearing behind SOB and wondered where they could possibly construct a path to that cleared area if a new attraction was to be put there. If KC where to be removed, a new path could go there and stretch behind SOB.
