Thunder Road was a surprise for me a few years ago when I first started visiting Carrowinds. It looks a lot like Rebel yell and Racers, but it has a lot more pops of air. It's a "hidden gem", if you will.

I liked it too, LostKause, and I believe as the third racer built for those parks, the profile is most like that of Rebel Yell. This ride was better though, and it's easy to see and feel the gradual transformation as renovation takes place. The view from the midway hasn't been altered, and evokes the feel of an old-fashioned wooden coaster in classic white with bright yellow railings. But as you ride you find yourself, somewhere along the way, riding a rebuilt ride with all new natural wood! The turnaround smelled kinda like Home Depot. I also dig the fact that Thunder Road (and Rebel Yell for that matter) still includes the final drop, removed on Kings Island's ride, I think, to make the pathway to Flight of Fear.
And really, I can't say enuff about Afterburn. Thrilling, fast, intense, well paced, and perfectly set onto the hill. I had no idea until I got there, and I'd happily go back to Carowinds for that ride alone.
