KI Peanuts Ride Names Announced

Pagoda Gift Shop's avatar

The Scooby Doo replacement name was released today and it is...

Boo Blasters on Boo Hill

Seriously, who didn't see that coming?

You mean like renaming Fairly Odd Coaster 'Woodstock Express'?

If it's any consolation, the re-theme of Boo Blasters at Carowinds is going over very well...with adults. They say it's a big step up from Scooby, surprising with the terrible name and all, but that they've added great effects and scares thruout.

I'm driving to Charlotte tomorrow - in addition to Intimidator (and no, you will not hear me refer to it as Timmie) I'm most looking forward to seeing the Snoopy re-do, and now I'm really interested in Boo Blasters. I hope it's not TOO scary ! (see the Saw thread)

I can't resist the urge to call it Intaminidator.

Well, KI has posted some photos of the retheme on facebook and it looks like they shipped the Disaster Transport 3D paint down to KI. Also, from the looks of it, all of the existing Scooby characters have simply been replaced by generic ones.

In short, if you were expecting new content of any kind, you were wrong.

I'll bet they also shipped the opportunity to buy '3D' glasses for $1 as well.

I read somewhere that your statement is true, Gonch.

When the quality is not there, I hate generic. Time will tell if the quality is missing from the retheme of Scooby.

Well seeing how... quality the generic rethemes and upkeep of crypt and stunt track have been, I'm keeping my expectations at the bottom of the lift hill.

Are you referring to BLSC (TRCFKAIJ)? When I rode it last July, I don't remember any of the original effects not working. The ride felt pretty much the same to me as it did before Cedar Fair came in.

Onboard audio is missing, as well as the small "splash" coming out of the tunnel. But otherwise, yes, everything is pretty much exactly the same as it was before. Just got a new name and some less exciting themeing. That pre and post-ride spiel drives me nuts.

And as for the Crypt...yeah, best to just not get started on that. That quite possibly beats out Disaster Transport for the most let-go ride for Cedar Fair.

I'd like to see The Crypt taken out of the box and put somewhere else, and some kind of dark coaster put into the box.

I ma starting to get used to the idea of the Peanuts theme. I know that I'm going to miss Spongebob a lot. Him and his pals were the only characters, in my adult years, that I looked forward to meeting. Even the mouse didn't excite me like the sponge did.

And Scooby was the perfect theme for a family-friendly haunt. Boo Hill, well, still sounds generic to me. Maybe CF should look into developing Boo Hill into a cartoon or something.

As far as Backlot's splash is concerned, I think they merely picked it up and moved it about 250 feet to the west... ;)

A lot of Backlot's mid-course brake run effects have quit working over the years as well. I don't think the barrels catching on fire, or the splashing water has worked since 2006. The helicopter rarely moves anymore either. It's just the machine gun sound effects and the big overhead flame.

LOL I've been calling KD's Intamindator and Caro's B&Mtimidator.

I did ride B&M's Intimidator, fun ride, floaty air. Didn't suck like Apollo.

And LK, I rode Boo Blasters. It is in NO WAY Generic. At all. Looks like a brand spanking new ride. There is a bit of story line, and there are new effects (face in the mist was cool), and there are now some scares, and the final room, which used to suck, is now MUCH better. Don't let the name fool you, they spent some coin on this one to re-theme it.

Monster Mansion isn't a known brand, but it works for oG. And now Boo Blasters works for the CF parks. LOVED it. I even felt that the 30 minute wait was worth it.

Last I rode it, Apollo FAR from sucked.

I personally dislike Apollo, and think it sucks. Should have put on there "Apollo, which I think sucks". But that's just me. Don't know if I just rode it at the wrong time, but I was so anticipointed with the ride. I was actually bored for each ride I took.

I like Nitro, but none of them have come close to oG's Goliath.

Apollo is my second favorite B&M, just behind Griffon. I love the turnaround so much. It seems as if the track is yanked out from under you.

It really cool to hear that CF put some effort into Boo Blasters. maybe they aren't all that cheap, after all.

I'm back from Charlotte now, and I rode everything at Carowinds at least twice on the most beautiful Good Friday ever. I added 5 new rides to my list, as the last time I was there Hurler was brand new. (now it's a p.o.s)

I loved Intimidator - rode it many many times especially in the evening. After careful thought though, I'm going to place it somewhere behind Diamondback. It had the same airtime hills, and some of the "new" features like the second drop and the turnaround were great. The end kind of kills the thrill though, and the splash shoulda been worked in. (there's all kinds of bare-naked real estate around the station)

But this thread is about Peanuts, right? After all the discussion now, for months, I've come to the conclusion that nobody cares who's picture is hanging over those rides. Everything looked great, very bright and colorful, and the kids and their parents were having a ball. The meet and greet was busy with fans who all seemed to know who the characters were, and were eager to meet them. I got a high-five from Sally and Linus as they were walking by.

The visit gave me a nice preview of what to expect at KI when they open later this month. The graphic of Snoopy on the Gr8 Sk8 (their Chance Falling Star) will look especially cool perched atop the Disko Coaster formerly known as Avatar.

As for Boo Blasters, I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I will say some of the shot activated stunts weren't operating as they should. The aforementioned mist screen into the dark was particularly effective, and the scene afterward gave me a (just a little!) startle. I have every reason to believe the other versions will be the same, KI's will be interesting to see as it's the only one that has the continuous train of cars.

All in all I thought they did a great job with the re-do.

I also need to mention I think I've found me one of the best B&M inverteds ever!

Afterburn is serious business. Honestly, its worth the trip to Carowinds alone, and as was talked about on a Carowinds specific board, it seems more enthusiasts are looking at Carowinds now with Intimidator, and I think they'll come for Intimidator (and enjoy it), and stay for Afterburn. And with Thunder Road's work being done, I think more and more people are going to realize how much fun it is too.
