Japanese B&M inverter makes its way to Jazzland

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Amusement Today reports that Gambit, a Batman mirrored clone from Thrill Valley Amusement Park in Japan, was purchased by Six Flags and is now arriving at Jazzland, which is being managed by Six Flags.

PKI treats us very well too, I know they are in it to make money, but they satisfy me everytime I go. I say that they use all of the coasters at Old Indiana Fun Park, throw 1 in SFKK, SFEG, Jazzland, Darien Lake. And spread the others that might be left. Why let rides you paid for rot when you can make a little bit of profit off of them. I would not complain, they are getting a B&M and PKI still doesn't have one. Also, that ride will be the greatest thing ever to people that live there. I bet once it opens I won't hear one complaint.

I am somewhat glad for Jazzland. In one respect, they have survived. However, they are now a Six Flags Park. Off topic, I do not like Six Flags. However, I go to every amusement park in my reach indiscriminantly, and have a good time at everyone. This is because everyone, even those in the Six flags chain, have something good to offer. I believe that this takeover will ruin some of of its charm, and, especially with context to the addition of a 'Gotham City', trivializes the whole idea of continuous theming in the park. It is sad that over the past 40 years, the theme of six flags has been distorted so much that the original meaning, SIX FLAGS, means nothing anymore. Batman, although positive that they managed to save a coaster, accomplished little due to the fact that the ride is not at all unique. However, it is better than nothing.

105 coasters, and the Cyclone still tops 'em all.

Yes, Teenage Ninja, that whole Old Indiana Fun Park situation is real screwy. It would be great for them to throw one into Jazzland. I wonder why they didn't considering they already own those coasters.

RubberDucky, maybe because Six Flags sent the Old Indiana coasters to the scrapyard when the sold the site earlier this year?

Some of you are bashing the B&M because it is used. You haven't even ridden it yet. It's amazing when enthusiasts criticize a B&M to the point of it being considered an SLC quality ride.

-----------------

Ok to all those people who says oh I wish it went to insert park here you can wish and whine all you want, until your face turns blue, but does it do a thing? No.

And to all those who say this was a cheap way out of buying a new ride and that was opportunistic. Ok it was opportunistic, but is there a problem with that? To save as much money as they did it is actually a wise idea to buy a used ride that is practically just as good as a new one (and much better than a SLC by that matter). No one will even be able to tell it was used! Six Flags has said they will invest $25 million dollars over the next 3 years. So saving money on one thing is making room for yet another addition/improvement. I have no problem with Jazzland getting a BTR clone/mirror it is better than nothing, which was what I was expecting them to get for 2003.

Next thing is that parks aren't just out to make people happy , sad, or mad like you may think. They are out to be successful and make money! Jazzland's current attendance status isn't looking too good. Coasters made by B&M are known to cure low attendance figures, they most often go very well with all of the general public.

And finally about the theme. I don't know what Jazzland has planned, but it will most likely go around the Pontchartrain beach area, where the SLC was planned to go. I *doubt* they will integrate a Gothom City theme as it is out of place and too soon for that sort of transition. My guess is that it will be repainted and be given a suitable name for the Pontchartrain beach theme.

Jazzland has a tough battle to fight, low attendence. But with these additions (even though they are used) may just pick up Jazzland's attendence and help the park move on to better things.

bigkirby-did they send those coasters to the scrapyard? According to rcdb they are still there, but that proably hasn't been updated.

I live in New Orleans. Although I'm happy Jazzland is getting a new coaster, I still feel upset that it is a clone. Of course it's better than nothing, but I was hoping for a small custom ride, or at least a dark knight clone like several people have talked about. Maybe next year.

Chris G. Said: "I think it was about 5 million total.. including shipping for Gambit. I think with the flats it was close to 7.....

Remember, you cant send these things UPS ground!!!"

....Does anyone else see a potential episode of Crank-Yankers here....Yeah, UPS...I'd like to ship a rollercoaster....yeah, uh huh...it's a Beemer...no, not the car...roller coaster....inverted.....

Edit....I must've been a little low on my guess....the park in Japan got probably 4.25-4.5M, since "shipping, handling, and insurance" on something this size and value must run a decent-sized bill.....

The Kraken...a SLC is a lot more of a clone than a Batman. And at least this is B&M.

Looks to me like one of thise flats is the bottom to a HUSS Swing Around (like the one they have at Kennywood)

My precidtion about a new Gotham City area was purely a guess. I've never been to the park. Given that La Ronde's interted was named Vampire, its entirely possible that this version will get a unique name as well. Either way, who gives a rat's ass about the name? Its a new coaster and the people of The Big Easy will eat it up!

ATTN: Vertigo the company that bought kong and moved it to SFMW is Six Flags Premier owned Marine World then bought Six Flags and chaged their name to it

NOW for those complaining it's a used ride I'll just bet you would've been the loudest cheering if they had moved Thunder Eagle or any other of those SBNO/USED woodies out there

Mamoosh it's a simple case of "the grass is always greener..." you see I live close to Carowinds and enjoy TopGun but would rather have Volcano which is enjoyed by someone near PKD but they would rather have Batwing which is enjoyed by someone who lives near SFA but would rather have Medusa which is enjoyed by someone living near SFGADV but........ and so on and so

Remeber there is always someone who wishes they could ride the very coaster you take for granted

It's odd that you say you are upset because it's clone (which is very stupid and immature IMO), but you go on to say you wish they would get a different clone?!

To everyone who is complaining: No one is forcing you to visit the park. If you don't like it, don't go. It's that simple.

Sounds like a smart investment to me. If only it could have gone to Enchanted Village.

John: you are exactly right as I, a home parker of PKD would GLADLY trade you V:TBC for TG:TJC (more letters and a better ride :)). Hell, I'd even toss in H:XLC to sweeten the deal. but alas, that is not my decision to make...

Anyway, I just LOVE how you all are calling SFInc cheap. On one hand, you all think that SFI needs to cut BACK on spending because they are so far in debt that they are going to default on their loans (poppycock, the Federal Government owes a HELL of a lot more money, but people are still buying bonds like crazy ;)). Then on the other hand you accuse they of being "cheap" for buying a quality ride (first person that says B:TR clones "suck" gets a mouthshot) at a discounted price and put it in a struggling park (which they are saving from disappearing entirely!).

All that is terrible in it's own right, but the really freaked up thing is if they were truely being "cheap", they could install at least FOUR different coasters in the park without spending a DIME (besides shipping and erection of course). Python @ SFA, Viper @ SFoG, Whizzer @ SFGAm, and Joker's Revenge @ SFFT are all working coasters with just a *little* love (certainly less than 5million dollars worth) could be put into full operating condition in Jazzland. *That* would be taking the "cheap" route (but IMO would still be a good business decison as the crowds of Naw'lins would eat it up like Jambalya!)

Exactly, which is why I don't take coasters for granted. I've said it before: any day I can ride, no matter what the coaster, is a good day.

Thank you 2Hostyl, you put into words what I couldn't.

So what if the ride is used, I would gladly take it at WOF. I am also all for Six Flags stepping in and helping Jazzland, without Six Flags, Jazzland could have disappeared.

Several of WOF's rides are used but the GP doesn't realize it. And even if they did, they would still visit the park. It's not whether the ride is new or used that matters, it is if the ride is enjoyable and fun. A park can repaint and refurbish a ride so it looks and feels like new.

Rubberducky, it was on Screamscape and RRC. It's really a shame.
