Seriously though, its marketing. Its ok to be annoyed.
And I disagree that any claim of coaster supremacy is pointless. The fact is some coasters are better than others. There are some responsible polls and guides that help identify some of the better coasters, and then there are some sources that do more to mis-inform the public than to present anything useful. *** Edited 4/17/2006 6:22:19 PM UTC by rc-madness***
It just seems like a stupid claim to make, and I doubt I'm the exception.
But I don't doubt that coaster enthusiasts are the exception - and this is where I bow out, becuase I guess its another of those enthusiast things that I just don't get.
No one outside the circle cares either.

Stupid or not, if it helps get people into the gate, SF's marketing team isn't really going to care as long as the claim isnt' some out and out, blatant lie. Its "greatest." Its a subjective term. This is just how marketing and advertising works.
Agree with Gonch, enthusiasts who really care about such things are most definately the exception. *** Edited 4/17/2006 6:22:18 PM UTC by matt.***

The only FACT presented is that everyone has an opinion, and opinions vary, sometimes WIDELY...
SFNE's RoS may blow the doors off 99% of other steel coasters FOR ME, but I would hardly say that it is therefore *objectively* a better ride...
And yes, I do see myself as an exception, which explains why friends and family can’t relate to my frustrations about SF’s irresponsible ads. Yet, where else should enthusiasts go find a supportive ear for things that only bother them?

I wish I had enough free time to get frustrated over Six Flags and their marketing efforts. That would mean that my life was a helluva lot simpler than it is now.
It's a lot of hype for something they don't even know will be well recieved or operateing correctly. What if the ride has the same kind of downtime KK had last year? What if the first ever elevator lift on a wood coaster doesn't work properly, or those infamous sensors that Intimin uses decide to cause trouble? Those brochures would sure look silly. SF is taking a chance by using this kind of advertising. If something doesn't go as planned, they will look foolish.
It looks like a decent ride, although a little short, but I hear time and time again on here that no one who posts on CoasterBuzz has the right to say a coaster looks like it will be their favorite until it is open and they ride it. We shouldn't have a double standard and say it's okay for a park to do what a CoasterBuzzer gets ridiculed for every couple days, should we?
EDIT-Added a set of quotation marks around One word, so people could beter understand the context of the sentence. Nothing else was edited. *** Edited 4/18/2006 6:10:43 AM UTC by dexter***
In my OPINION, it's basically irresponsible to claim anything about a ride experience if you haven't....experienced it... ;)
--Erich
1) It will have it's share of problems and may even eject a rider or two.
2) Enthusiasts will line up to call it the "greatest woodie in the world".
Sounds to me like SFGadv is just jumping the gun on the inevitable...;) *** Edited 4/17/2006 11:04:38 PM UTC by DWeaver***

When a lot of park use these tactics in ads, they usuially have proof. SF can not have "proof" yet because the ride isn't even open yet.
Even if the ride were open, there is no way to "have proof" as to whether El Toro is the greatest anything. There is no way to "prove" a claim that is completely subjective. Even if the ride opens and runs perfectly and it tops every reputable wooden coaster poll in the entire world, that doesn't prove anything, it just shows that according to a certain group's completely subjective opinion, El Toro is the greatest wooden coaster in the world (or wherever.) I'll say it again and set if off from the rest of the paragraph so everyone can see:
There is no way to "prove" a subjective opinion.
This would be an issue if SF was claiming that El Toro was "the tallest" or "the highest rated accoring to X poll" or "the longest" because all of those are disputable. But SF can easily saw "the best" or "the prettiest" or "greatest" or "best smelling" all they want because there's no way to say anything otherwise with any sort of facts or statistics. *** Edited 4/17/2006 10:55:07 PM UTC by matt.***

I assumed that everyone here already had the knowledge you put in your rebuttal of my post. Of course there is no way to "proove" something is the greatest. What I was getting at is that a park should have some way to back up a claim like that, like a high ranking on a poll or some kind of award. Even if it wasn't something credible like MSN saying it was the best of the year or Paul Rubin whoring his opinion, it would be something to show why they make the claim.
I guess I misused the word "proof". I should have put quotation marks around the word both times I used it. I'll go up and edit it for everyone so they might get an idea of what I mean by "proof".
Matt., You are an intelligent person but you overlooked/overanalized the true meaning of my post, possibly on purpose. You have seriously been a not-so-nice person lately, not just to me but to some other posters here as well. You seem to look for any chance you can to belittle someone, which is not my problem, or anyone elses. It's YOUR problem, and it's starting to get annoying.
I just thought I would let you know, you know, as a friend who cares.
You are very close to becomming a flamer-light; all of the fire with less filling.
I'm sorry if you feel like I'm picking on you, but if you post something I disagree with, I'm going to reference it, and give you my points as to why I disagree. That's not being a "not-so-nice" person (in my opinion - oh damn, there's that word again) that's just having a conversation.
Honest, I have no idea who you are or what you are like as a person, but you certainly seem to have inferred quite a few things about me. There are plenty of people here who are happy to disagree with eachother, and let that be as it is. If everyone agreed here with eachother really, what would be the point? Trust me, if you make a thread tomorrow where I really agree with a point you've made, I'll be the first to say "I agree with Dexter on this one," and I'll be happy to do it.
Would it help if I put a smiley face at the end of all my posts? Don't take anything I say personally, its just rollycoasters, duders.
