In 2003 the Midwest is the place to Be

Well, maybe by bad he meant there's nothing there except for potatos... lots and lots of potatos.

That's Idaho that has the potatos, not Iowa.  You got your "I" states mixed up there, Dawg Byte II. :)

SFLAKE, thanks for pointing out that we (I am an Iowan) don't grow potatos.  I've lived in Iowa all my life and have never seen a potato farm in my life.  Secondly, believe it or not, I've never driving a tractor or lived on a farm.  Crazy thought huh?  Thirdly, I'd also like to point out that that Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska always form the top four in eductaion scores in the nation year in and year out.

My reply is not intended to respond to one certain post or another, but rather to clear up any false stereotypes that this area has for reason probably tied into the fact that there isn't a lot of news out here (We're all very sorry that we aren't national news worthy but killing a bunch of people or complaining about things that don't mean anything in the grand scheme of things doesn't really appeal to people of this area.)

This being said I now worry that my area may never get to see any recognition when statements are being made like they have been made.  We work hard and are known for our knack of helping out strangers whenever help is needed, but its obvious that our parks will probably constantly fail to get any serious recognition (among some people in the enthusiast community) despite what they (the parks) do.

"I never said Wisconsin was great, nor did I say it was going to be the place to be in 2003! It actually sucks! My profile says I live in Madison, which is where I go to school, but normally I live in Kenosha, whose only redeeming qualities is that it's very close to SFGAm and it's right in between Milwaukee and Chicago.

Hey, I live in Madison too...
I like Wisconsin, for the most part.

Current favorite coasters:

Steel: 1) Raging Bull 2) Millennium Force 3) V2 4) Wild Thing 5) Mr. Freeze

Koster King: I couldn't disaggree with you more.

As long as Adventureland sees their ROI, I see no reason that they would have to worry about selling, but, Cedar Fair would be the 1st comapny I would hope buys them. With the stratigies of Richard Kinzel and his investors, I feel they could transform Adventureland into a major player. But first, they wil have to get rid of their Chance Inverter.

Continous Coaster additions are not what make Corporate park companies good.

How would Adventureland be any better off if Cedar Fair bought it?...No offense, unless my home park raked in the cash, Cedar Fair would be the last corporate park I would want to buy it, especially for coaster additions.

Are you sure?  CF has already dropped $30 million on VF in the past 7 years, including 2 coasters and the tallest S&S combo tower on the planet.  Of course, when you include a couple more rides at neaby KCS-MOA, you're looking at six rides over the past seven years.  Add in the four-ride kiddie package that accompanied PT in 2000, and you have to wonder what anyone's complaining about.

WoF's former owners (Hunt Midwest) would have never dropped $10 million on a hyper like Mamba there....and they've said so themselves.

There's no comparing these parks to others with longer operating seasons in areas surrounded by much larger populations.  And those who think Six Flags does a better job are sorely mistaken.  They only spend the big money in large markets...you don't see a Morgan hyper at SFEG, do you?  And Metro Denver has almost a million more people than Kansas City...see for yourself.   Mamba cost as much as a Vekoma Boomerang and a SLC put together--with money to spare for a mid-sized CCI.

Hopefully, Adventureland, Jazzland, Visionland, Silverwood, etc. will all stay independent.

Actually, Jazzland and Visionland are already owned by a corporate chain (Alfa SmartParks) and the only reason CF doesn't own Visionland is they backed out of a purchase agreement.

WOW a big zoo! Oh my! That sure makes me want to go to Nebraska! That new park sounds interesting, but it doesn't make the midwest any different then it already is.

Why is everyone stereotyping Nebraska as being just a huge corn field? (Although, most of it is) Omaha is a pretty big city. I just don't get why people do that.
Cali-Coaster-Fan: I think of California as a bunch of stuck-up people who have never really been to other places but judge them anyway. But, I've never been there. See what type of impression you can have on people?

Thanks Coaster Playa and john peck. I got just the answers i was looking for. Sometimes, if people just list questions, people are less likely to respond. Usually I learn more by making myself look stupid first. Thanks!

And I know and agree with your last line john. If I didn't, my favorite parks wouldn't be Disney(DCA, MGM, DL), Universal(IOA), and Busch(BGT, BGW). The fewer coaster additons comment was just to tie-in the general perspective most people on the board care about. And I favor Intamin or B&M hypers which, I think a Morgan hyper would ruin the chances of one of those being put in. But a lot of people do like the Morgans and a lot of people do like what Cedar Fair does for the parks, so they do deserve much credit. I just don't like when people mention how great Cedar Fair is and they're only thinking Cedar Point. I'm also blinded by most spin-and-puke additions, so sometimes people have to remind me those are out there and people do enjoy them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm only here, becasue there's no "Theme Park Buzz"... well, none I've found anyway. ;)

Hey Joe Carroll and Spacecase8310...

I'm a Wisconsinite too! I live just outside of Jackson, which is near West Bend and Cedarburg, about half an hour to an hour away from Milwaukee.

I have also noticed that Midwestern parks (except, of course, for CP, if you consider it a Midwestern park) don't get noticed very much.

RCT hypercoaster crazy!

It will be a big year for the Midwest.  SFSTL should be getting a L-shaped 250ft Intamin Hyper that year.  We will just have to wait and see.

Don't Look Down!
How close is the Omaha park to being finalized?
Well they consider Ohio midwest so that means CP, SFWoA, and PKI are nothing?

There are alot more things is this world too see than roller coasters. Some people might hate nature and wish to plow all the trees down for commercial use, but I kinda like it. I lived in Nebraska for a few years and they have wonderfull state parks. I travelled just North of there to South Dakota too and it is breathtaking. I love conoeing, hiking and camping. I love amusement parks and roller coasters too, but you'd have to be pretty shallow to not have other interest. Believe it, there is plenty too see in Nebraska.

Like B&M-Tycoon said, SFWoA is Midwestern and so is PKI... they are very well known parks.

You people who are dissing the Midwest need to stop.

With Parks like Cedar Point, Six Flags St.Louis, Six Flags Great America, Paramounts Kings Island, and others, the Midwest is the Best place for coaster enthuists.  I firmly Believe that.

Honestly, before you rag on the Midwest before you've actually been, learn the difference between "Iowa" and "Idaho". Goodness.

Mamba; The inspiration for SD2K. It doesnt get much better than that. Come to the Midwest;and ride the most underrated coaster in the U.S.
Isnt the midwest Ohio and the Northwest territory?

At least I dont call a vertical loop a "loopdie-loop"!

Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan and Upper Penninsula, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northa Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin are all considered 'Midwestern' States, as listed on http://ofm-usa.com/midwest.html
Interesting how all the states around Missouri are "midwestern" states but Missouri is not included ;)
