HW 2009

I have no doubt that Thanksgiving will be expanded. I do doubt that a coaster is in the works though. Voyage is still bringing people in the gates. I am guessing something a little more family oriented. Perhaps a Disk-O called Tossed Salad. Or Wisdom Tornado called Whipped Potatoes.

Hook, line and sinker.

HW sure loves online attention. ;-)

I'll wait it out, I prefer mine well done.

I'm a skeptic on this. With the state of the economy, I dont think any company dependent on people driving to it, is willing to make a huge capital investment at this time. They are either foolish (not likely being HW) or have a gobs of money to spend freely. I would prefer they hold back for a while. They have been on an expansion tear for a while already.

Umm, isn't Dorney's Laser for sale...?
Laser would be a perfect fit for HW. I'd actually like to see it go to Waldameer -- the perfect way to round off an otherwise perfect park.

If you thought that was funny, Waterboy and I have all kinds of crazy ideas for that park. That was a mild one. A Wisdom Tornado themed to ornaments and a tree in the middle called Deck the Halls (with an unmentionable nickname) for the Christmas section. Oh gosh so many ideas... too many to list.
If this is anything guest related I think it will be something that will lead up to a new coaster. I'm not saying that the coaster won't be coming, but I'm not sure if it will be this year....but we won't know until we know....
Paula - Your turn to post!

"(6/3/08) Just a note to all your Holiday World enthusiasts out there who may be looking for any signs of what the park might be up to in 2009. If you see any sign of a new building going up soon, don’t even give it a second thought. Apparently this is just for a new receiving warehouse as well as a new freezer for food storage."

That's from Screamscape... :(

Screamscape's post from earlier in the month is about a different location. Lance is aware of this; he's been under the weather and isn't caught up with his posting yet.

Thanks, Paula

Yea! Bring on the Mayflower! ;)
As promised, I was at the park yesterday and snapped a few pics of the area in question. The area they have staked out is very large. The stakes start right at the brush along the service road after you pass under the Voyage and continue well out towards the highway. The picture on the Holiblog seems to be the border on the other edge. Other than stakes, there were no clues of anything else. Because the stakes line up with a maintenance road, an employee parking lot and the Thanksgiving section, there are just too many possibilities here. It could be anything. I will say that there is definitely enough room here for just about any kind of coaster (or anything else) HW wants to put there should that be the case.

Sorry the pics aren't better, but I was perched on a bench in the smoking area and the zoom on my camera isn't the greatest.

Picture 1 - This field is the main area where ??? will go.

Picture 2 - Zoomed in view of pic above.

Picture 3 - If you look carefully, this shot gives you the best view of several stakes.

Picture 4 - This is just past the Voyage (you can see the structure on far left) as you pass under on the service road. Though it's extremely hard to tell in this pic, there are stakes there.

I would love to see Holidayworld get something along the lines of an old school Anton coaster. The Mindbender at Six Flags Over Georgia or Shockwave in Texas are the best loopers out there.

The newer B&M built rides may look great, but compared to the oldies, are just pretty boring. Plus the old lap-bar only seating is very comfortable.

Whatever Holidayworld does, I'm sure it will have integrity and be a lot of fun!

Soft economy or not.... and despite what the media says, the U.S. is NOT in a recession... (there was a .09% growth last month) from what I have seen, HW has had attendance increases to where they need to meet the growing crowds by putting something else in to help with capacity and will pay for itself in a reasonable time.

I do like the idea of a new water ride for the theme park. Something like River Battle with a Swinging ship near it.

And I've been saying a Giant Wheel for years. *** Edited 6/20/2008 4:56:44 PM UTC by john peck***

That's hardly the definition of recession. When unemployment is up and the markets are way down, and have been trending that way for months, that's a recession to me.

My predictions: Either a really cool water ride or a looping coaster.

Maybe they are just getting the ground work done for more path expansion onto Thanksgiving section...but its strange how close some of those stakes come to the Voyage lift...could it be for underground work (i.e. storm drains, electrical, misc piping)?
