HW 2009

Interesting. Hope it works out for them better than a traditional Chute The Chutes.

Just a quick follow-up to my earlier comment. Now that I've watched more of the videos, the lift platform will NOT stay level as it ascends/descends. It will always be perpendicular to the track. That should be the same as any other Intamin coaster design, just on a larger scale.

Does seem a bit strange, given that the Six Flags parks are taking their Chutes rides out (yes I know they are 20+ years old).

Love the idea of the access from SS, as this will help capacity issues there.

Can't help but echo the concerns about Intamin Prototypes.

But it will also double+ wait times for the ride. I wonder if PP will also serve as a desperately needed secondary entrance to SS...

How would you avoid it not being? If there's a way to get to it from HW and SS, how would you configure it to keep people from just passing from one side to the other without riding?

True that. However, I think the size of the ride alone will limit the number of SS guests who ride it repeatedly. I could be wrong, but I think that, much like the voyage, the line won't be as long as you might fear.

900+ peeps an hour, at HW is a HUGE number. Plus, the slides that have the longest waits at SS are the 2 or 4 person rides like Zinga and Bakuli, that barely do 250pph. On the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, WITH the Holliwood nights event going on (coaster nerds everywhere), the line for Voyage at 2:15 in the afternoon was 12 minutes. I seriously doubt that the line for PP will be radically different. Yes, the rapids ride in HW gets a long queue in the afternoons, but it's a ride the whole family can ride. PP will not qualify for that distinction. That lift will scare the bejeezus out of a lot of the GP.

If anything, I would expect that PP might ease lines off of some of the bigger slides, as those who want a thrill might more easily opt for PP than waiting for the Zinga line.

Actually the biggest downside to this is going to be squishy seats on the Voyage, as people do a 1-2 ride on PP and then Voyage.

I personally am not to excited about PP. Of course I'm not a fan of these types of rides anyway. It is a good idea they are letting you board from the waterpark as well since I think most of the people riding will come from this side. I know they mentioned some sort of geysers at the end. I think it would be a good idea to have the kind where you pay a quarter or two and can shoot them off yourself. The ones at Kings Island on the rapids ride always seem busy.

Not to seem to negative but I also dont like the look of the ride. I think the structure has to much of a modern feel to it. I personally like the look of the traditional type of the shoot rides. I'm sure it will be fun to watch run though.

Oh yeah, I also hope the lift doesn't decide to dump the boat off before it reaches the top. Not sure that would be the ride experience anybody was looking for. *** Edited 8/26/2008 5:39:34 PM UTC by Iceman3***

Looks like it's Minneapolis for me next year!

Biggest != better.

For the price I suppose its a nice headline to say they have the tallest water ride, but I would have preferred something smaller with more of an experience and an actual theme. The fact that its Intamin, and a new lift system doesn't exactly give me any confidence in uptime either. Should be fun to see the reactions to it though. *** Edited 8/26/2008 5:47:34 PM UTC by eightdotthree***

Wow, you must have some bad news about your life for next year, if you're already resigned to it being a year of long nights and full of snow. I know the Farmer's Almanac is projecting a colder than average winter next year, but geeze, don't get so depressed so early.

Or did you mean that 2009 will be full of humidity and large mosquitoes?

Again, why the negativity for 2009.

Or do you mean that you can only make one trip to a park next year, and by inference I can assume that you won't be clogging up the lines for me at HW?

Was I? I'd say I was pretty darn close but not exact. I got some aspects correct including the name. But I guessed it would be built in-house or in conjunction with Gravity Group. I never guessed Intamin.

And to set the record straight: no, Paula didn't tell me in advance. No, I didn't get any inside info, tips, or hints from anyone. Period. It was a guess, based on the Holiblog hints and what I thought would be a good addition to the park.

$4.3 Million? Seems like a sweet deal for something that's basically a prototype, and something from Intamin.

Maybe that's telling of Intamin's current reputation? Not knocking HW's new addition (which looks awesome), just sayin'...

Spongebob and Renegade will be here waiting just for you! :)

Thanks for another great season, VF!

Agreed. I don't want to rain on Holidayworld's parade here, but there are just so many comments to be made about an Intamin prototype.

(sarcasm on)

Maybe it's part of a multi-year multi-ride package deal....like the one CP had with Intamin a few years back...

(sarcasm off)

The reason is because the pools are cracking, and they don't want to replace them, and Shoot-the-Chutes are old tired rides. You go up, and drop to get water on you. It's a how long ride after the lift. (10-20 seconds)

This ride is going to fail just like that Intamin ride at Six Flags America. It's probably still experiencing temporary operations if you went there recently.

Agreed. The structure on the lift just looks out of place. I would like to see some sort of theming integrated to make it look less industrial. Of course the catch-22 is on a tower that tall, it would be expensive.

Still, looks like a fun ride, and should be a hit with the guests.

keep that SFA fanboy attitude out of this thread. never been there, probably won't ever go there, could care less.

That's not this thread.

Looks like a double lift system simular to Farenheight but lifting the platform with the boat on it. Seemed rather reliable at Hershey. Much more so than their hydrolic launch systems. I pretty much put two and two together and was correct 100 percent two hours before the announcement on another board. I was kinda hoping the splash zone would be in SS as a place to just get blasted but I was right about it being accessable from both. Come to think of it. Id redesign the flume they have to have the station at the SS entrance. Maybe lengthen it and add a second drop at the end.

Of course it's not my money :)

Chuck, thinking this is a good move for HW, SS and hopefully it will be one open most spring and fall days as well as most Corporate parks have gone to a Mem-Labor day schedual on water rides which is bunk.
