Holiday World...A Flawless Park?

I see a little bit of hypocricy here. Almost everyone in this thread has taken shots at SF parks (I suppose it's rightfully so), but at the same time it's all your opinions, yet you all can take shots at Patman. However, I do think he has gone too far with it, and brought most of it on himself (still, his original comment...as crazy as it seems was just his opinion..)

My opinion on the park: While I have never been to HW, I would kill to go there. Everything about the park seems so incredible, I don't really see how anyone can hate it, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion...

Yeah, what Jeff said.

And hey, Jeff, isn't it your birthday? Why don't you go get some, or have a beer or something, istead of hanging out with us dorks? ;)

I hope you're at least eating a piece of cake...

Ok back on topic. Yes Holiday World seems perfect but nothing can be perfect. To us enthusiasts it can seem perfect and to some not worth visiting becuase its little. I just hope that the Indiana Gov't will extend 69 so that it will be shorter getting there instead of going all the way to Louisville then over to Santa Claus. From Indianapolis that is.

But I would like to see a fairly big flat ride there and of course the already mentioned carousel ferris wheel etc.

But one thing surprised me when I saw their park map was that they had a rapids ride. I always thought rapids rides were only in big parks and have never seen one in a little park. I have no clue how good it is becuase I have never ridden it. And I dont want to make a negative opinions about it if i have never ridden it.

PxPx Ride Op: You're missing the point... if we are going to rag on any park, it's generally based on some actual experience, which is not what we have here. How is that hypocritical?

Yes, birthday. Beer is coming Thursday, since it eases the pain of being around my family. Thank God this year's gathering is at my aunt's house, three blocks from my own. I can walk home when the mood strikes me!

It's hypocritical in the sense that your opinion/experience with those parks are negative so you rag on them. The guy posts his experience about the park, and his experience with the park was "2 coasters..." Your experiences obviously differ (as would mine), but instead of sharing your experiences, you just attack the poor guy. Not that he doesn't deserve it after some of his responses, but at first it was just an opinion...

Perhaps we need to define terms....awwww, to heck with that! Let's just say that I prefer to never "rag" on a park, or on people, but rather debate the actions and decisions of a park based on actual personal EXPERIENCE. That means I make my "opinions" (and believe me, I always have one and seem amazingly free to *share*). I'll back them up with how they were formed, again, based on my *experience*.

I may think that SFGAm looked great or looked horrible or whatever ON PAPER, but until I went for myself, I couldn't say whether it would be good or bad. For me, it was great...others may disagree, and that's certainly their right. But I prefer to discuss it with someone who's been there than with someone who says "the park sucks"...and hasn't been. I have been to several parks a few times over the years, and my opinion of them has changed due to my *experience*.....Where Jeff is absolutely correct is in saying (correct me if I'm wrong, Jeff) "Don't state opinions without firsthand experience". A good rule to follow, IMO....

Back to subject, my opinion of HW has never changed, and we'll be back.....warn the town, Paula!

P.S. I having trouble hearing you....Did you say HW is getting a FLOORLESS.........now THAT is just plain sad....help, Doctor my funny bone is *fractured*.

I don't see how ANYONE could complain about a park with two great woodies. I know Raven made the top ten and I think Legend was in the top 20. How can you complain about that combination?

But that is the entire point, he HAS no experience with the park...See this quote from him...

Well first i refuse to pay the twenty dollars to use the track record and second have no reason to drive really far to hicksville to ride, just two good roller coasters, with nothing else of interest in the area.

He admits that he has never visited HW, so he HAS no experience with the park to base his opinion.

When I first heard of HW and that they "only had two coasters" I was not that enamored with the park, but I went to SRM2k2 and am a convert. Yes, they "only" have two coasters, but they are incredible!!! They have the BEST service at any park my wife and I have EVER been to. And they are also far above the rest in cleanliness...

As I say to everyone who will listen to me, what Holiday World lacks in quantity, they more than make up for it in QUALITY. And to me, that is the key factor.

I have never been to HW. Why? Because I can't convince my 16 year old son that just because the park has only 2 great coasters, it would still be a good time.

My husband was not interested in the "small park" experience either. UNTIL he attended CBCon with me and talked to several people who all explained that HW was a great place to go, not just for the two coasters, but because it is a very friendly park where guests are treated extremely well. Perks like free parking, free drinks and free sunscreen (ever buy sunscreen at a large park??) more than make up for the entrance fee. After hearing several glowing reports from enthusiasts (who you think would be "bored" with only two coasters), my husband has changed his mind about this "little" park. A trip to HW is in the works. We are considering it a "romantic" weekend.

Yes, it only has two coasters. Yes, you can do everything in half a day. And for most youngsters who are in constant need of thrills, this probably isn't their kind of park. Free stuff doesn't make up for the boredom they feel.

But for more mature enthusiasts who can look beyond the simple thrills and can appreciate the all around atmosphere, this is a wonderful park. Heck, when I was 16, MOST parks only had two coasters, including CP.

Great point, CPlady...I'm not old by any means (24), but I've been going to my Ohio home parks long enough to remember CP when it was Gemini, Blue Streak, Wildcat, Corkscrew, and CCMR. I also remember PKI when there was no "P" and it was Beast, Beastie, Racer, Screamin ' Demon, and a SBNO Bat.

I hate to say, "You kids are so spoiled," but....you kids are so spoiled! It seems like every other post in these forums is by a 15 year old complaining his park didn't "get" anything this year, and now we have this Rhodes Scholar complaining about "only" two world-class coasters, and he's never even been there. What a troll.

Thank you, redman822, for making the point that PxPx Ride Op wasn't getting.

I'll admit that my first Stark Raven Mad I went to just because "everyone is doing it." But it took one lap on Raven to make me a believer. Before I got to the third drop on Legend, I already knew I'd be back the next year.

Sounding like an old man here... but I will add to that.

First time I visited....

Hersheypark: 1 coaster... Comet

Dorney: 2 coasters... Thunderhawk (known as Coaster) and Flying Dutchman (Zyklon or Galaxy... I forget which)

BGW: 2 coasters... Glissade (Jumbo Jet) and Wildkatz (Wildcat)

Great Adventure: 3 coasters... Big Fury (Wildcat), Alpen Blitz (Alpen Blitz) and Runaway Mine Train (Mine Train)

Face it, call ourselves what we want, but to the parks we are all "GP".

The Hons feels that even though he hasnt visited your small park and it may be themed well, it still only has 2 good coasters and that is not very good. But 2 coasters is not going to cut it, go to a real park

Yeah, PKD has a ton of coasters, and for some reason I feel no need to stop there on my way to ride the five at BGW. Go figure. Quantity apparently doesn't matter (and this coming from a guy who has 15 at his home park).

Near where I live there is like this one park that is really old and like it only has two big coasters and two small coasters, and none of them are like record breakers you know... I think its like called Knoebels.

And like last year I was at a park with only like one coaster you know and one water ride and like lots of these like animal and fish shows. I think that was called Sea World Orlando.

Ah... the wonders of modern society and the "younger generation"... where so many have been brain washed into thinking "more is better" and attention spans rarely excede 30 seconds.

Now I REALLY sound like an old man...

"Roller Coaters? Why in my day we didn't have Roller Coasters... We just parked our wagons at the top of a big hill and rolled down. And there was a big old ugly mangled tree at the bottom that we just smashed on into... that was our break run! And to get back to the top of the hill we used real "chain dogs"... tied a big ol' log chain to our old hound dogs and they dragged us back to the top of the hill so we could do it all over again."

Let me guess....the Hons is under 15 years of age, right? That would be the only excuse for him making such an inane statement.

Well, I would go one step farther, I think that many parks with 10 coasters might as well only have 2 that I go there specifically to ride so thats what a %20 of the coasters they have that I go to visit?

Now smaller parks like IB, HW, Adventurland, Knoebels have only a few coasters, But they are all great coasters.

The park can have 50 coasters and as long as one of them dose it for me then I am happy as long as I don't have to wait 2hrs for it.

Thats why I say HW is great in the coaster dept. Two exceptional coasters that on any normal day, you could ride till your exahsted.

Chuck, who gets leg cramps and hurting feet from waiting 2hrs to ride Raptor or Millie and prefers many rides gotten for his $$$$

Ya know...you don't need the weather channel to tell the seasons, all you need is Coasterbuzz!

People complaining about new rides that are still under construction? Must be Winter!

People complaining about delayed openings of new rides? Must be Spring!

People complaining about new ride announcements? Must be Fall!

See posts from people spouting opinions about parks they've never been to? Yep...school out, the kiddies are on the internet....its SUMMER!
