Holiday World will open The Voyage in 2006, a new wood coaster from The Gravity Group. The ride will be 6,442 feet long, three drops of 100 feet or more, two 90-degree banked turns, a top speed of 67 mph, three trains, 8 tunnel moments and a triple down element.
Read the press release from Holiday World.
I was ready to see a "small park" take the length record.
The Voyage may not hold the length record but it is still a record-breaking coaster:
It will hold the world's record for longest steel-supported wood coaster.
It will hold the world's record for most 90* banked turns on a wooden coaster.
It will hold the world's record for amount of total airtime on a wooden coaster.
It will hold the world's record for most drops at or over 100 feet on a wooden coaster.
And lets not forget steepest woodie in the USA!
Happy now? ;)
While this might not be longer than Beast, it also won't have the random slow parts, and breaks everywhere. It looks to be amazing.
Chuck, I may be missing it, but where are you getting this info?
This is the best of Shivering Timber, Hades, Tremors, and Legend. WOW!
Over 6,000 feet of track. DAMN!!!!!
As many of you know, I'm not a fan of out n' back coasters, however, this one certainly looks interesting. I hope for great success for this coster for no other reason than maybe enthusiasses will cease and desist with the silly notion that all woodies over about 125' suck.
But more importantly, if the POV is really indicative of the ride, this coaster is going to be freaking long. Not a bad thing in the least bit, but I could really see people spazing out like "It's not over yet?!?" :) This *might* be the incentive needed to get me back to Southern Indiana.

I love how the first three hills stick out like a monster then disappear under the treeline to terrorize the forrest and lowlands. The layout to this thing is just downright gorgeous IMO. Looks like another Hades were the only dead spot is the lifthill, this Voyage looks to be non stop I love it.
To those that are already posting how disappointed they are, well let me just say yeah you have a right to your own opinion, my opinion is that you should have you filty tounge ripped out and fed to the fish. anyone that could be remotely disappointed with this announcement doesn't desever the air you breath. This is just my opinion :O(
Anyways Will, Pat, Paula and everyone else at HW you guys are outstanding and you guys have done an utterly amazing job.
Voyage the Best Wooden Coaster in the World and it hasn't even been built yet :O)~
May 2nd:Metal. Support Metal. Do not open until 2006
May 4th:They talk of putting up a Christmas tree, you put up a Christmas tree near Thanksgiving right?(Rediculous stretching in these first ones compared to the hints I found later)
May 5th:
"Teepee+Stack+Bowl=Water Tower"(Teepee=Indians, Stack=Wood,Bowl=Famous Feast?-Yeah, big stretch on this one)
May 26th: The infamous Snowy White road post, of note, with the big scary bird, the only species mentioned is the Wild Turkey.
May 31st:
"This Truly has been an adventure into uncharted waters"(Voyage)
June 8th:
"Last-minute hint: We do not plan to put all our eggs in one basket. So to speak."(NOT easter)
July 1st:
"We get teased a lot for being "in the middle of a corn field." Looks like this year's crop is a new hybrid."(this one everyone got easily though)
July 1st:
"Guess they've heard it's cooler underground.Keep digging!"(8 trips through tunnels anyone?)
July 7th: All of it. Interpretation on whether you got this one or not. It does mention not all is revealed today though.
July 12th:
"(And that's no eggs-ageration.)""We know now more than ever...We are truly blessed."(Gave the Holiday away pretty much, lots of us got it)
And that's it. I may have missed a few. That's as good as I wish to do.
Out and back? It certainly crosses itself a few times. Almost a new class. But sure, it goes waaaaay out and back. One thing from the animations is that this thing looks like it will be flying through the trees on the way back. Almost terrain style.
Let's hope that HW's attendance figures swell next year so that the industry really takes notice.
Wierd name by the way. It's a name I would expect for an interactive movie or dark ride...but not coaster. Pretty cool that it is different though.
The thing that struck me about Hades was the speed. It was so fast, but comfortable..no rough parts.. I think anyone who said mega woodies cannot work is jumping to conclusions. I even though Son of Beast was tolerable. Something with a steel structure is bound to be much more smooth and retain the speed. From looking at the drawings and animation of this ride, I could tell this thing is going to be one crazy speed machine. The smooth speed dips and will be killer if they're anything like Hades. I could expect they will be even better.
I only wish other parks could drop the gimmicks and come up with a such a straight-forward delivery. I mean, this is speed, curves, air-time, and scenery. Intensity without the gimmicks is written all over this thing. It's so awesome how the thing goes so deep into the woods.
I'm just wondering, how many acres does this thing take up? It looks like it must go pretty far beyond the border of the regular park. I'm sorta surprised they only counted 5 tunnels. That seems like they're being a bit too modest. I could see other parks claiming a single tunnel as two if it passes through twice. With such a long stretch, it will be quite an experience taking a walk-through of this ride.
I only hope to see some construction progress soon. I'm not sure I could wait another year!
