...since then, S:KC has *booted* Ohio's floorless to the curb...;)
...and Chilla has gone to lapbars, and I've gotten to ride Freeze...
Still, SFWoA was a "middle of the pack" SF park, certainly better run than SOME (Tragic Mtn., Frontier City), but not even close to approaching SFGAm or SFoT...
As far as new "thrill rides", I expect those to head to Da Po!nt, while the *family rides* will probably be the new additions at GL...
edit: I should mention that I loved Dipper, and that Villain was FLYING at that time...doubt Villain will EVER run like that again...:(

ok, so GL's coasters aren't top notch? the world's longest floorless, not to mention record breaking vertical loop, america's first twisted impulse coaster, america's second flying coaster...
So terms like "record breaking", "longest", "first" and "second" equate with a good ride? Consider me informed!
...a huge wooden coaster that beats out mean streak in my opinion in the villian...
Heh. According to my 2004 wooden coaster poll (Mitch's), I've been on 50 woodies and only 9 of them don't beat Mean Streak. Guess which park two of those 9 are at? However, you're right - Villain is better than Mean Streak - and in similar news vitamins are better than poison.
...and classics like double loop and big dipper.
Add "classic" to the list of terms that guarantess a good ride. I'm learning so much today :)
let me just say, those of you who only know six flags, it's the ride ops that aren't top notch, not the coasters. thankfully cedar fair is turning that around. better paint schemes will bring life to these innovative rides as well.
Wow! I had no idea a ride op can make a ride worse or paint makes it better.
Thank you for such a well thought out and informative post. I have to get back to GL immediately now that I know how great they're coasters are...
...I mean, who would've known riding them wasn't enough to form an opinion.
Soak City seems just...old. It lacks the really unique attractions like a water coaster, or one of those Tornadoes they're putting in at GL and Mich Adv.
The Teen activity pool at GL sounds pretty cheesy in my opinion. I think it should be called something more like a "10-year-old Teen Wannabe" pool. I really don't think teens will be interested in squirt guns and rope swings when there's a Tornado, around and the massive Hurricane mountain.
The park will surely be not worth a full day visit until it is completed in 2006. It would be nice if the park would have a wave pool on opening. A water park without a wave pool is not a waterpark.
I also hope they move the other two sets of water slides from the old waterpark. They're good slides, and they deserve to stay. However, they may have to build a new tower for one of them because it has a wooden tower if I'm not mistaken.
I'm actually excited for GL. I haven't been there since it was SF Ohio (before WoA). I'm going to try and plan a trip to GL later in the summer after my annual CP when my roller coaster addiction gets overwhelming.

What's with the sarcasm? I'm sick of people acting like the fact that they've ridden hundreds of coasters allows them to talk down to those who've ridden less. Also, I'm sick of people telling others that their opinions are wrong. Polls are wrong, Lord Gonchar. I don't know if you've been paying attention lately, but if you take the Golden Tickets for example, you'll see that polls are about as meaningful as your vitamin and poison comment. Don't act like you're above us. Quit getting nasty when people try to give an opinion. It's people like you who can't have fun at parks other than your favorite. At least we know that it's all about fun, not about beating all other parks out there. Sorry for ever giving out opinions. Remind us from now on that we need to check with you before we talk about rides we like so that you can tell us if they are really enjoyable or not.

I cant tell if your just busting his balls or what Gonchar. GL has a great coaster lineup imo, especially once Villain gets its retracking this off season.

Dude, you're so far out of line that I'm going to give you a chance to correct the wrong.
Go back and read through the thread. It was my opinion that was completely blown off and considered invalid.
On page five:
Gonch says: "...doesn't exactly think any of GL's coasters are "top notch" - even when they were new"
Then geaugalake2005 replies:
"ok, so GL's coasters aren't top notch? the world's longest floorless, not to mention record breaking vertical loop, america's first twisted impulse coaster, america's second flying coaster, a huge wooden coaster that beats out mean streak in my opinion in the villian, and classics like double loop and big dipper. let me just say, those of you who only know six flags, it's the ride ops that aren't top notch, not the coasters. thankfully cedar fair is turning that around. better paint schemes will bring life to these innovative rides as well."
To which I reply with the post you have such a problem with.
I think you're after the wrong person for considering other's opinions as worthless or wrong.

Let's see..
Get wet now or stand in line?
Get wet now or stand in line?
Pop each other in the face with water or dry off in line?
Why don't you go wave at me from the Tornado queue while I get wet now?

But the existing wave pool's still open.
Dress in beach socks and trunks with pockets as the fashionable already do.

You're forgetting the bulging gut hanging way over the trunks with pockets Playa ...
Then again, if you're midwave, if there isn't a shuttle to take you from the wavepool to the WWK site, it's just too darn far to walk, trunks or no.
Gonch, I do think this year you need to give Big Dipper another shot. From what I've read lately, you last rode it towards the end of Six Flags' reign, and yea, it was bad then. But this year, the thing was haulin', the airtime was great, the trains are well padded, it's worth the time for a second opinion. If you still don't like it after next year (assuming it's like this one), well then there's no pleasing you ;)
And ride opinions should not come from someone who feels Titan (well, Goliath, but same coaster) is actually worth a ride ...
--Brett, who enjoys disobeying self-appointed moderators and is continuing to feel inflammatory and hopes some find the humor/irony above ...
I love those pools with lots of stuff to play with, like the one at SFNE. It was a blast. I wonder if I will be too old to play in it...
Soak City isn't going anywhere. Improvements will continue to be made though not at the rate you all would prefer. Cedar Point is a resort, not an amusement park. When you look at the capital decisions Cedar Fair makes for it's Sandusky properties you have to look ouside the park and waterpark at the resort as a whole to see the direction they are going. Take away the waterpark and you take away one reason to stay another day.
Why do they want guests to stay another day? Heads in beds. Look at the growth the past 10 years. While the park has continued to add coasters the highest attendance has never exceeded the year Raptor opened...at least to my knowledge. So, in essence, the attendance has leveled off.
At the same time, Cedar Fair has expanded Breakers, built Sandcastle, Breakers Express, Lighthouse Point and acquired Radisson. The average nightly stay now for the hotels has to be around $175 or so. I would guess that Cedar Fair grosses $20 to 30 million on hotel bookings every year.
Don't get me wrong, the coasters are great but the resort growth is improving Cedar Point's bottom line more significantly each year. Now they are even looking to maximize year round revenues with Castaway Bay.
Look around the company. A Radisson was bought out at Knott's Berry Farm and a campground is being built out at World's of Fun. Look for future Castaway Bays if this one proves successful...perhaps one as close as Geauga Lake.
Taking out Soak City would go against the model Cedar Fair has been working with for some time.
To Geauga Lake...if Pigeon Forge, TN can sustain one amusement park, surely Northern Ohio can sustain two. In fact, it has for many years. Cedar Fair bought Geauga Lake for several reasons. Not the least of which it was it is an outstanding value for the price paid and it has great potential that wasn't maximized by Six Flags. Like it or not, Six Flags made bad decision after bad decision when they bought the park.
Cedar Fair can do it right, make some money off it, and perhaps most importantly, they keep more direct competition to their south and not in their backyard.
I realize this is "Coasterbuzz" but some of you need to get off once in a while and see that this industry is about much more than coasters. If it wasn't, you would see coaster only parks sprouting up all over the place.
I put that idea out there because of something along the lines of what you said (but apparently, you missed that part). Castaway Bay is now the real money-maker. The place can stay open year-round, even when it's raining outside, and adds the benefit of having a resort attached. How many people come to stay at Breakers, etc. for the purpose of visiting Soak City, especially when Breakers has what, two pools in it? Now, that land that Soak City sits on is in a prime position for any kind of expansion. Take out the place by itself, you can expand the hotels further. Take it and the lot out, you can expand the area for rides and hotels behind Gemini, making a new midway.
I threw it up there as a freakin' possiblity. Will it ever happen? No way! Is it something interesting to think about, possibly. But nowhere in there did I say anything about coasters, coasters, coasters. My exact quote I believe was "land for expansion" which does not say "land for coasters" or "land for rides" or "land for pretentious *censored*".
Sorry, you didn't get to roast a newbie this time with your all-knowing power.
Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.
Re: The GL Coasters
-The Villain was the roughest it's ever been this year... And I loved it.
-X-Flight still has some of the slowest loading on the face of the earth. I liked it less for some reason. The whole atmosphere at the park has generally been brought down and I think that contributes to a lot of blahness. It's still nice.
-Dominator was the roughest it's ever been this year... And I disliked it. One of the few coasters to ever give me a headache- every single time I rode it this season.
-Big Dipper was running a lot more sluggish this year. I didn't get nearly the same amount of air as I had in the past. Meh.
-Steel Venom was making weird loud noises, but I still think it's very enjoyable.
-Double Loop is good fun, but the ride ops were the suxors both times I went this year. Sad how some got fired... Or not.
-No one would ride Thunderhawk with me, but I usually like it.
-Good Beaver as always.
-Raging Wolf Bobs is still kind of silly, kind of boring, kind of rough, and kind of hot. I'd rather look at it than ride it, but I'm glad it's there. Get GCI or TGG to reprofile the whole thing. ;) This is a headache-y one too (of all 4 or 5 coasters that have ever given me one).
-Avoided Head Spin.
Villain is top-notch in my book. The rest range from pretty good to pretty forgettable.

As long as there's a shirt--preferably a dark one--it's all good. In fact, I'd consider that progress.
Nobody wants to see Da BackFros and manboob nipple rings, mmmkay?
