GCI coming to Dollywood in 2004!!

Dollywood is a top 10 park IMO (and CP isn't even in there). Of course, I love water rides (they have four spectacular ones), dark rides/coasters (Blazing Fury defines "fun"), shows (and what a line-up), great food and atmosphere (near perfection), and Arrow loopers (Tennessee Tornado is *the* best). Underrated or overlooked?

Coaster Insomniacs

This is EXCELLENT news. Nothin' like GCI, a great Arrow Looper, the majesty of the Great Smoky Mountains, and.....best of all......huge cleavage.

I'll tell you excellent! The Tri-County Fair has a Dragon Wagon, an Oriental Express, Spice Girls in concert, and a big ole parking lot ;)

The only reason that I don't fully understand this underrated theory is because of the fact that all of her park additions ately have been educations of her. Yes, park goers have come to love Dolly, but when you start making show after show parading yourself it just get so redudant.

I mean, why not just build a wild mouse and just stop th car at each brake run to tell about her life. Dollywood was a good day trip, but the park could use less fluff and more thrill.

Which brings us to where we are...thank you for the new woodie Dolly :)

Well, that is why the park is called 'Dollywood".

Kind of odd, I only know of Dolly Presence in Adventures in Imagination, the Heartsong Theater, and at her Replica Home.

Does any one now the link to DW's on-line survey? I know it exsists because they are still asking for e-mail addresses at the park.

Plus,if you want to see a rendering of how ThunderHead will probably look-check out Silver Dollar City's on-line survey and look at the wooden coaster rendering.

Really great that Dollywood is getting a coaster. Always thought a Setpoint Swingthing with the water tanks would be a great addition to DW or SDC also.

Still hope that when SDC gets a wooden coaster it will be a dueling/racing one. Maybe themed to the great locomotive chase incident during the Civil War or maybe themed around two competing locomotive engineers having a race over the logging line.

Looking at the survey that CoastermanX linked I wonder what most of the public surveyed chose? I enjoyed DW's eagle sanctuarty so would not mind SDC getting one of the those.

What a transformation of the park from the Goldrush Junction days! I remember being about 6 years old and riding my first log flume there at what is now known as Dollywood.
After doing a bit of research, it is not odd that Dollywood announced this so early. According to my research the Tennessee Tornado was announced on July 2,1998 fairly close to this date now. I expect the formal park press conference to take place this week-either on July 4th or the weekend that follows. However I may be wrong they may end up having it Mon. who knows?

There is still nothing else on the coaster other than the Amusement Business article and the Business Wire article.

Hopefully, when the park has the press conference new renderings or new info will become available.

Could someone please explain exactly what this "fly-through station" is?

It is simply what it says: about mid-ride the track returns to the station but does not stop it goes through the station about 8 feet above the station track and both tracks-the station track and thr 'ride' track is under the same roof.

I'm guessing it's when the train comes back through the station at High Speeds. But IMO, Boomerangs do that all the time.

I think it will get annoying after you've been standing in line for a while.

Hercules at Dorney Park was the first rollercoaster to have what they are calling a"fly-through" station. Just in case anyone forgot.

"You know its a good ride when you come into the final brake run wiping tears from your eyes."

You are righ tthat hercules was the first one to do this, and also the fact that Clair Hain Jr, I think worked for Charlie Dinn at the time so, this maybe were GCI got the idea from, not from dinn, but just because of working on hercules.
My report on the construction at Dollywood.

I took a trip on the DW Express which goes right past the construction site and saw that they have probably been at work on excavating the site for some time now since it was pretty much completely dug out and they had a WHOLE lot of dump trucks-after passing some of them on the road when I was leaving DW-it seems the trucks come from all over East Tennessee and I noticed one from North Carolina.

They have posted 3 attraction posters in the park:

1) on the right wall of the Tennessee Tornado's queue house.

2) A big version of the one floating around the net now. It's located on the roof of a stall in the Xtreme Sports Area (bus parking lot).

3) There's one on the wall as your entering the DW Emporium which has the poster and says below it: 273 Days til the Thunder.

In other Dollywood news-

After a short run-Dollywood has suspended the train 'robbery' it probably has to do with the construction.

Also, for the first time ever-Ive saw anyway-TT ran both trains yesterday afternoon. One time the trains I was in was stopped by the block brakes on the brake run. It was a really forceful jolt but for the first time ive ever saw it-the trains I was in slowly entered the station-giving the station brakes well, a brake.

Really? What Day were you there? I stopped by on the 2nd for a little while. It rained all day. The Shopkeeper I talked to said that they had set a record the day before for the lowest attendance ever at that time of the year.

I reflect your thoughts on the T. Tornado. I've also only seen two train operation once, on the opening day of the 2001 season. Yet, Blazing Fury seems to run all Three of its trains regularly.

BTW, I talked to an engineer at the Dollywood Express and he told me the train would not operate the last two weeks of December dew to Construction. There having to re-lay the entire section of track at the Construction site, so it's 10ft. to the left of it's current location.

I went to DW June 27.

plus, they won't let them do 2-train ops unless it really starting to pick up.I think the limit is a line all the way back to the stairs (not the ramp) also something else happened on TT that day ive never saw before-they had the entire last 3 cars blocked off (that was morning it was open later).

Like everything else, it all bowls down to money. Blazing Fury can run all 3 trains because it is indoors plus half the time the fury needs all trains-the line usually picks up even if the park is pretty much deserted.

BTW-did the engineer say what happened to the robberies?

Nope, he did not say a thing about that. I was actually just trying to talk him into letting me ride up front in the Engine. One thing led to another, and somehow the new coaster came up. (I did end up getting to ride upfront, they evan let me blow the Whistle!)

About the Robbery, A few years ago they did it every time the train ran. Now they've lazied up a-bit to the point that they only do it every-other run or something of that sort. It doesn't bother me that much because the current act is cheezy. (If they brought back the great one from the 94/95 seasons, I might think different!) But, Your right about them quiting it all together. I imagine that the noise from the Trucks and Bulldozers is pretty loud right there.

From what I heard Thunderhead will be the most INSANE GCI to date! CoasterKrazy, just think "fly thru station" and that is probably what it is. Just look at StarCoasters link and that will give you some ideas of what it can be. I have a feeling this will be one Great Coaster! No pun intended!

I can see me going to Dollywood next season! :)

Signature will be closed today. Sorry for the inconveinance.

After looking at DW's website-I do believe TH may introduce DW to the coaster community (TT is great..the best..but it couldnt do it alone),and maybe even ACE. I can see an ACE coaster event in DW in the future. And all points indicate that TH will be the biggest and longest GCI has made in its 10+ year history.

The future is looking bright for DW.

BTW-what happened to the B&M Inverted?
