GCI coming to Dollywood in 2004!!

Wow. I wasn't planning on another trip to Dollywood. But, I might now. The new coaster sounds very cool.

The coaster will feature what officials are calling the world's first "fly-through" station. About half way through the ride, the trains come back through the station on a track eight feet above the exit platform, but still under the station roof.

If that is what you call a "fly-through" station, Hercules at Dorney Park was the 1st rollercoaster to have that.

Yes! I live an hour away from Dollywood and on my last trip all my friends said that the The Tennessee Tornado needed a counterpart.I'm gonna call them all up and tell them the great news.

Me , Who will definately go next year, no matter what.

...Doesn't Intamin's inverted Tornado also pass through the station?

The coaster laws of marketing end after a 10 year period or if the coaster no longer ranks in "My Bestest Coasters" Lists, so Hercules is non-existant in all advertising matters. I'm not even sure if Dorney remembers or cares they still have Hercules. But I do love their practive of blocking off half of the Thunderhawk train in one train operation. Why hasn't SF thought of this yet to slow down lines and make capacity worse? They also have the great concept of putting more trees in between one coaster than the rest of the number spread throughout the entire park. Only at Dorney.

I knew that, 'moosh. I just phrased it as a question to appear less threatening and overbearing.

This must be the Intamin Inverted action shot described above: http://rcdb.com/installationgallery1076.htm?Picture=8

I want one.

This is my first post:

This past week we were on vacation in the Smokies and went to Dollywood this past Sunday. When we rode the Dollywood Express, (train) to the right just as you were leaving the park there was some heavy equipment, large piles of things with tarps on them, places where dirt had been removed. Stuff like that. Well, after hearing the rumors of a coaster I figured it was, and it looked like a new area. Well I was right!

Now I wish that I would've registered and posted last night when we got home like I planned on doing. O Well.

BTW...the park was GREAT! Tennessee Tornado was great (the drop through the tunnel will catch you off guard). It's just a little short though

O...and the wooden coaster at Race World was being taken down (it had only been open for like 1 year when it was closed).

I think Thunder Eagle at Race World has found a new home. :)

-Danny

Was Thunder Eagle being gently taken down, or were they taering is down?

NIIIICE! Tennessee (as well as Dollywood) needs a new woodie. I think the only 2 other operating woodies in the state are at Libertyland in Memphis - Zippin' Pippin (John Miller design from 1915), which by the way is a fun coaster, and Lake Winnepesaukah's Cannon Ball.

Anyway, I can't wait to return to Dollywood, as Tennessee Tornado wasn't built on my first trip there. This will be well worth the drive from Nashville! Kudos to Dolly!

Hey JWolg, nice hint ;)
Yes that Sure Does Calm my nerves thinking about another park getting a GCII.

I am absolutely thrilled for this.....the name is decent, the length excites me, and the location is perfect. My life changed after Lightning Racer and Wildcat, so I anticipate this as being my favorite offseason project for 2004. Since the park is open in winter months we can keep up with construction. And not only will it bring a top notch ride to this great family park, but it will also draw more peeps who haven't ridden Tornado yet. It still frustrates me that some refuse to believe in a single Arrow looper. Ride it people. :)

I wonder if there will be a new flat ride or three to go in this new section as well. The park realizes that they are in need of more rides, and this is a really great addition.

The press release mentions that this coaster will be the centerpiece of a new section with a logging theme, so the implication is that there will be more than just the coaster. Dollywood has a history of balancing attractions to attract different ages and interests such as opening Tennessee Tornado along with the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in one year, or opening Wilderness Adventure motion simulator along with Dolly's Museum last year. I believe we will see more than just the coaster next year, and the other additions could be something less thrilling to satisfy all guests.

Bring Back Thunder Road(Smiley face here)!

Thunder Road was so cheesy.

After iWERKS began exporting that film, I had the privilege of operating a theater showing it (opposite Rattler) every day for over a year. I've seen it three bajillion times. I'd be perfectly happy to never, ever see it again.

Actually, Cannon Ball is in Georgia (although a mere 1/4 mile or so from Tennessee).

Anyways, Dollywood is an excellent park, and is worth the visit even without Tennessee Tornado. The staff, food, shows, atmosphere and prices are excellent. This new coaster is icing on the cake.
