GCI coming to Dollywood in 2004!!

"Busch Gardens Branson" could definitely improve with a wooden coaster. The more the merrier in that area. Now if we can get a clone (or something similar) of "the best coaster in the world" in St. Louis and be able to Kick the Sky in Kansas City, Missouri will rival Ohio, California, and Texas as the best coasting state.

Ogle's waterpark hasn't been demolished but it is all grown up and alot of stuff has been removed. There's a couple of slides up and some other smaller stuff. There's a sign out front that says something about a new shopping place or something.

O...and I know where the new stuff is being put. There's already some construction going on. I saw it while I was on the Dollywood Express Train. It's on the opposite side of the mountian that the Slidewinder is on.

Jim, Cap'n Obvious is going to have to come and give you a beating for these acronyms....clever, and funny, but even those "infants" who've been known to surf the 'Buzz (jimmybob's revenge, anyone?) could figure out some of these clues....

O yeah...I forgot to mention. I hate the name "Thunderhead". Sounds like a name a little kid would call someone he didn't like.

...wondering...doesn't this belong in the Gay Days thread...;)

Ha! Lol. :) That is the funniest thing I have read today because it's sooooo true. Being at Dolly's concert here last summer was the best "gay day" I have ever had...a dream come true really. The straight people were the minority and even Dolly had fun with it.

I like the name Thunderhead and it fits the region as I believe thunder storm fronts are/where called thunderheads by the hill folk.

Has Dollywood released any Pictures of the Ride's Planned Layout Yet?

No, Dukeis#1...not that I've seen, anyway.

It seems Dollywood is keeping it under wraps. If it weren.t for the net I wouldnt even known about the new coaster-DW hasen't had their formal press conference yet. It's not even on their website! As of yet that is. I imagine the entrance to the new area will be in Dreamland Forest straight past the forest restrooms into the maintenance road. I figure that because the road goes up past slidewinder's station and up into the mountain and area around it.

Let's hope they don't have problems with the hydraulics... ;)

CoastermanX,
the Thunderhead announcement is from the Dollywood press release page though.
Artist rendering of the layout may not be done yet (rendering not construction blue prints/plans that is) which is why we have not seen one or the park may be wanting to wait and dish out more info as the season goes on.
Follows the pattern of HFEC which seems to tend to announce early. Wildfire was announced in either June or July of 2000.

Just my .02 cents

There's nothing on the GCI website.

I wouldn't want it to end up like the T. Tornado, and them not show the layout until a few weeks prior to the opening. They had a great painting of the ride twisting in and out of the mountain, and when I finally found out what the Coaster looked like a '99 Season Pass Newsletter, I was very Under-whelmed.

Dukeis#1 - few artist's renderings are accurate. Never let one of them get your hopes up.

i am an avid fan of dollywood. a few weeks ago on this site there was an article concerning overrated & underrated parks.

dollywood, in my opinion, is a seriously underrated park. we spend so much time talking about pki, hw, and cp that often we overlook the fact that dollywood boasted an attendance of over 2.5 million last season while consistently holding strong to their family atmosphere and this whole time they have been offering a wide variety of unique world class thrill rides and family rides.

who can forget the mountain slidewinder? a ride that was named "the best nonrollercoaster ride in the nation" by one popular amusement publication after it was introduced or daredevil falls, a water ride that reaches 60 miles an hour!

certainly we, the enthusiasts, can't forget tennessee tornado. arguably one of arrow dynamics best creations. a coaster filled with airtime, hangtime, and one of the best first drop/tunnel combos that i can think of.

or even their iWerks theatre. when it was introduced it was the most advanced motion based simulator iWerks had created. it was able to move in more directions than any of their previous rides could.

you may be asking "what is your point with all of this?" my point is that often parks like dollywood are overlooked on these threads based upon the amount of people on these threads that have attended the park, their number or thrill rides, or some other variable. it's time for us to start showing this park some props! let's support this park a ton this season and next season because just like holiday world this park is offering both amazing customer service and world class thrill rides. truly an awesome package.

if you have never visited dollywood i encourage you to take a trip this season or next. you will find one of the cleanist, friendliest, and most action packed parks i have ever attended. but don't take my word for it...

Make that 2.5 Million in attendance. The last year the park had less than 2 million in attendance was 1991. That is why they built Showstreet and the new Entrance in '92 to hold the crowds better, and make the park more than just a 75 acre Money-trap.

I totally agree with you on Dollywood being serverly Underated. Dollywood was doing amazing things years before Holiday World evan got noticed in the coaster world.

Dollywood as well as Silver Dollar City's theming, atmosphere and quality are right up there with Busch, Disney, and Universal's. However, these parks do not get recognized for this because not enough Coaster Enthusiasts are willing to go to a "Non-Thrill Ride" park.

thanks for the correction...

how in the world do you feel that this park is nothing more than a 75 acre money trap? i'm not being rude or condescending. i just really want to hear your opinion. especially based upon your signature. what are some of the key reasons or characteristics that this park has that take away from the customer value or turn it into a money trap?

I said that the park WAS just a tourist trap back then. All it was then was just the Rampage, The Slidewinder, Blazing Fury, Thunder Express and the Steam Train. They had a few shows, and some Flat Rides, but the only real thing they had to bring people in was the fact that Dolly's name was on everything. The main ride back then was the Dollywood Express. When they built Showstreet, it gave the park some class and you now could spend more that just 5 hours Re-riding Everything.

I Edited the other post so it does not look like I'm blasting the park.
