for the new version (whenever)

Put a mark all threads read button on top of the recent topic area like the forums entrance. It's hard to use the tracker if you never visit the forums entrance area and just go right to recent. *** Edited 7/25/2005 3:46:45 AM UTC by Fastball84***

Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.
Why does my sign-in time out? Every time I post a trip report, I learn this after I try to post and I lose everything I've typed. When I type on Word and do a cut and paste - I lose my paragraphs.

All in all, I have to agree with Magxl200. This is an impressive and helpful site.

Here's To Shorter Lines & Longer Trip Reports!

Check the box to save it and it won't time out.

Is the track record function down at this time? I keep getting the message that I need to be a member to use this function. I've signed in/out a few times today. I can get rid of the adds, but I cannot access the track record...? Anything I'm doing wrong...?
Maybe my membership expired...? Does it renew automatically?
Jeffrey R Smith, if you click on Your Account at the top, you can see in there if your membership has expired. It does not renew automatically.
This site is almost perfect to me the way it is; no complaints. I spend a lot of time here.

One small thing I would like to see is a place to put a paragraph or two about yourself in the profile. You could tell what kind of work you do, of if you have ever been a ride opp, or whatever. I can't memorize every posters life experiences, and sometimes I am wondering what people are talking about when they assume that everyone already knows things that they have mentioned a year ago.

AND I wouldn't have to re-explain who JD is, or what parks I have worked at and when, or what my Haunt hobbie is all about.

Just throwing my tiny idea out there. *** Edited 7/26/2005 4:27:25 AM UTC by dexter***

Another thought is to have a different icon for pinned topics that have unread posts in them. Right now it's the same icon whether or not someone has posted recently.

Yeah... that's already on the list.

Perhaps you could make it an icon of George dancing like Mr. Six? LOL! :)
Shhh...that was supposed to be our little secret...

I would love to see Racing Coasters be counted as fractions that add up to one coaster (in the Track Record Function).

Example:
Gemini Red = .5
Gemini Blue = .5
Total Gemini = 1

Racer Forward = .5
Racer backward = .5
Total Racer = 1

If this was done a failsafe could be added prohibiting the adding of the same coaster twice.

I know that this is a pipedream and would require to much rework of the current code....

Edit:

Or... everycoaster could be given an X value of 1 in the database. Racing coasters could be giving an X Value of .5. (where X is Number of tracks on a coaster divided by 1) A failsafe could limit the posting of a single coaster after it has reached a limit of 1.

In the Track record then (if the sort feature is ever added) one of the options could be to sort by X value (counting racers as 1, which would be the total sum of the users x value) or count by track Value (total number of coasters listed, so racers would count however many times a user has listed it, as the current system is).

The Default view for which the total track record is shown could be chose by the track records owner... but changed by a viewer in the sort feature bar (again, if it ever appears)..

This way, multiple entries for each racer would not have to be entered into the Database and everyone could choose how they wish to count thier racers.

Anyone want a flow chart? ;)

Wow, can anyone tell I used to be a Database programmer? lol (IBM S36!)

OK... I've got a fairly substantial list now, and I think I can build the new site for under a grand (not including my time, which I obviously can't bill myself for ;)). The time frame is going to mostly depend on how quickly the forums come together, and my "real" project that pays the bills right now is taking a lot of my time.

But I really want to build a new site... you'll just have to be patient. There will be lots of new nifty stuff for club members... that I can promise you. ;)

There is a small change that I've wanted for this site for like forever...It should be an easy fix....being able to change your name for the site for example once you sign up no mine is Dominator56, there is no way to change it...It just gives more freedom to the user and paid member. Not sure how much code you have to edit for the new feature but its a helpful suggestion.

Nope... that will never be available. Not going to happen. You pick a name, you live with it. You can't have a blind community if people change their name every day.

Ok, how about something else, not sure the site is built for Mozilla, just compatible. Any possiblity of adding advanced text features like seen for IE6? I thought I'd ask this as a question to see what you have in mind if any thoughts of your own.

The forums have to come together?

I'm a newb at programming like this... I'm confused.

EDIT: When posting this i found a glitch. While doing quote posting, on a multipage topic, After posting the reply, it jumped back to page 1, and the quoted text was still in the reply box.

Another Edit: It does it when editing too.

That's not a glitch, it's just a poor design choice made years ago.

I started rewriting the forums more than a year ago, but between my book and then the contract job I'm on now, I've barely touched them. The forum is the foundation for the entire membership system, so it has to happen first.

Dominator56: I've already finished the new rich text control, and yes, it will work in Firefox. It's nice and lightweight too, unlike those found in some forums.
