There's that 'entitlement' attitude again. Even better when it's about a family-owned amusement park instead of the federal government. Gotta love it.
How bout some of those collective cyber hugs :)
mmmmmmm HUG!
Knoebel's rules... I was only there once in 1997, and I'm in a hurry to get back!
Nooooo rush at all to get to the 2 big parks in Ohio though. Been 10 yrs since CP and 5 since KI - I do wanna ride the Stricker's coasters though!
See, we all have different likes n stuff. Guess we compliment each other. Hugs... mmm.....
What kind of updates are you expecting to see, Camden?
July 2008, Not going to open this month...
August 2008, Not going to open this month...
September 2008, Not going to open this month...

May, 2009, Not going to open this month...

October 2010, Not going to open this month...
There ya go. You're pretty much up to speed.
Now if you want something more detailed, they could add. "Boodley arrived at his office today. He parked in the third spot from the left in the second row. He's wearing a light blue polo today. He did some calcs."
The point is, there are days, there are many days, when nothing really important happens. Even on projects like this. It doesn't mean it's a waste of time. And it doesn't mean they should tear it down to build the type of coaster you've been repeatedly saying (like since this one was announced) you want them to add.

TAER IT DOWN!!!
Actually, you didn't say exactly that.
Seriously, RGB, I commend your patients and ability to reply to some people in such a sensible manner. Sometimes, I don't have it in me to argue anymore.
I am excited to ride Flying Turns when it opens. There is a big chance that it will open about the same time Golden Nugget opens. That would be an awesome situation; two coasters in one season, which is unusual for a non-corporate park.

I love Knoebels and most everything about it. However, in this day and age I do think they have done a poor job keeping us updated. With a website, this can be done very easily. I am sure there isn't much to report as RatherGoodBear said, however, their website still has the post from early 2009 stating they believe a 2009 opening may be possible.
Yeah, I wish they'd update it to say 'it's still not open.' I'd have no idea what the status was otherwise.
I pretty much gave up on the ride and my reaction to this whole fiasco is that if it Knoebels wasn't the one doing it, everyone would be on their back about how long its taking them! I know its bringing back old technologies, but I think Knoebels bit off more than they could chew. This ain't Disney Imagineering or Universal Creative where they can throw millions just in R&D at a ride.
Why do they need to keep "us" updated? Just because other parks post weekly updates of their "Funstruction" progress? Sure, I'm curious about the progress, especially since the milestone they reached this year with the train actually working most of the time. But I don't expect the park to keep me in the loop.
They are trying to recreate something really cool from the past instead of just doing the popular thing of buying an off the shelf proven modern day product. They don't owe us anything, yet some of you act like they have betrayed your "loyalty" and owe you punitive damages.
I don't get why anyone thinks it matters as to how long they've been working on it. It's not like they bought a product from Intamin and were promised it will work and open on time. The park's own in-house team is doing this with the assistance of some outside help. When it gets done, it will open and we'll have something new (old?) to enjoy.
Perhaps they should have built it in a secret lab and gotten everything to work without the public knowing anything about it, then make an announcement that they will be installing a new coaster for the following season. Is the fact that they are doing everything out in the open on public display what bothers some of you?

I think it only bothers that one guy, Matt. Everyone else is just curious :-).
I am going to go out on a limb and say why the need to keep "us" updated. A few resons, first is their website which says to "Watch this spot for further developments" right after it says "Can this all be accomplished during the 2009 season? Everyone involved with the project certainly hopes so and at this point we believe it’s possible". Second, what was it almost 5 years ago when they hyped this attraction, only now to try to hide it under the rug due to embarrasement. Is that true, I don't know because they haven't updated their website since mid 2009. And third is I am a paying customer. Would Knoebels be fine without me...absolutely, but since they provide a service to the public it only makes good PR sense to address the issue. In this area whenever you talk about Knoebels you always get the question "is that ride done yet"
But when they began creating this attraction, they stated that there was no definite date (or year) for us to expect it to open. I don't need any other updates after that. I await the announcement of when it will open, as that is the only announcement that will affect me. Anything between that is just fluff.

I guess I'm in the middle ground about this. Does Knoebels owe anybody anything in terms of updates? Of course not. But a post every few months wouldn't be that difficult, and it would be appreciated by all the folks (not just park enthusiasts) that genuinely care about the place.
My author website: mgrantroberts.com
What they need to do is create a website of a fake company, which is really the name of the company manufacturing the ride with the letters scrambled. Then they need to send out press kits that contain little containers that look like moonshine bottles. Then they can make all these posts that give little clues as to the ride's status. But it gets really fun when they throw in some red herrings and get people second guessing themselves. (OMG, maybe they really did open it on January 12 when there was 18 inches of snow on the ground!)
I want a like button so bad, if just for RGB's post above.
I suppose some kind of Flying Turns update would be nice, but they definitely don't owe it to the public to do so. I would rather see them spend their energy getting it to work than to make YouTube documentaries about getting it to work.

The only thing Knoebels is lacking in anway to keep it from being the best all around park is a major steel coaster. Other than that. Nothing I dislike about the park.
What other park can you walk your dog in, see parades, concerts, A Carousel and Anthricite museum, Wood and other crafts being made live get some very good cheep food and drinks and not spend a dime on admission or parking? A buck here or there and you got some exciting rides to boot. or a P.O.P.
Absolutely the best in the best setting. YMMV
