Some love for whirlwind, hehe. I have to admit I had a soft spot for it being my first looping coaster. But it looks as if theres excitement for the Turns (of course I am lol)

There is structural work (framing) bring done at the location of the transfer track at the beginning of the helix. The station looks cool with the curved metal roof in place.
it looks like they moved the webcam up on the 1st cam... also they have more videos on the flying turns site.

Cool news about the transfer track, are they going to be trough as well, and have all the layers of the regular trough? PPP looks to be even that more awesome if it's done by then. I love the tag line this year:
"Phoenix Phall Phunfest With A Twist.. And Anything Else We Come Up With" If so it would be a "Phoenix Phall Phunest Phull Of Twists And Turns" hehe.

I remember bringing up the topic earlier about "storytellers" on the knoebels website under 'whats new' page. and I was just messing around when I went a clicking and found this:

http://www.storytellersmediagroup.com/Flying%20Turns/FlyingTurns.htm

(if for some reason the link does not work you must copy and paste the whole thing into your web browser)

from the storytellers website... hmmm *** Edited 9/17/2007 5:50:09 PM UTC by Seth*** *** Edited 9/17/2007 5:50:55 PM UTC by Seth***

if the above link does not work you must copy and paste the whole thing including the: FlyingTurns.htm (which is not underlined for some reason) or just go to www.knoebels.com and click on whats new and click on storytellers.

Has Knoebals announced when this ride is going to open? I am planning a Trip for next year and would like to know when this ride will be up and running. ;) *** Edited 9/17/2007 6:58:04 PM UTC by Borntocoast***

Well, maybe it's just me, but I couldn't see some of the text because the pictures on the page were over the top of it. Anyway, here is the part that's covered up:

"It’s your chance to be a part of this historic one-of-a-kind project. See, hear and experience what it takes to bring back a legend. Then visit Knoebels in 2008 and ride the “Flying Turns” for yourself. There’s nothing else like it in the world!
Flying Turns - Resurrecting a Legend --- available on DVD Christmas 2007.
"

So, wether or not this is any indication, this statement would lead you to belive it won't be open til next year. On the same note, the DVD will be available for Christmas. I know what I'm getting dad this year. :)

^^They haven't announced anything, but I can't imagine any excuse for it not being ready for opening day.

Ajrides...Thanks for the pics. I really liked'm
I wouldn't think it's too much to assume opening day next year at least. I did send in my RSVP for PPP yesterday though, now to start saving for probably my busiest October lol. PPP, Frightfest (not SFGAdv, traveling up to MA for SFNE's staying with a fellow enthusiast/friend), and now my friends around here are looking into Halloweekends at Dorney.

I'm sure alot of you do alot more, but I've never gotten a chance to do much Halloween stuff when it comes to parks.

There has been a lot of work going on between the first lift and the second lift the past few days. It's difficult to see exactly what they are doing, because of the location of the camera. Are they possibly finishing the track now? Hopefuly. And, if so, I'd think there is still a possibility of seeing this run this season.

But the line during PPP will be so long that nobody will want to wait in it! ;)

but that's good for everyone who is waiting in shorter lines for other rides, *cough* FLYERS. :)

Long live the Big Bad Wolf

When I was there last Sunday, the transfer sections looked like they mostly just needed the track on them. From what I've heard, one is going to be track and one is going to be trough. Also, the first production-model train chassis has arrived and the seats are being added on-site. (I have no idea what the restraints are going to be though.)

We're not supposed to give up hope for PPP just yet. Dick Knoebel hasn't. They think it will be finished, but of course it will have to test well.

Another PPP thing to look forward to (but I'm sure the line will be ridiculous there too) is the haunted antique cars. They're not letting anybody see it, but there's supposed to be a must-see scene for coaster enthusiasts.

Like an animitronic Dick Kinzel hacking up Big Dipper?

I have two trains of thought on this, no pun intended.

Either FT will be open for PPP without fanfare, to avoid having tons of people descending on the place that day. Or they'll decide to hold off the ride opening for opening day next season and do something like auction off seats on the first rides for charity.

Apparently no one here reads rec.roller-coaster? This is from CoasterSteve, who is a carpernter on the FT project:

If you asked me a month ago if the FT would get open this season I
prob would have told you "prob not"
If you asked me 2 weeks ago if the FT was going to get open this
season, I would have changed my opinion to "possibly"
After this past weekend up there, and seeing how things are
happening, my opinion has changed to "it prob WILL open for the PPP"
(repeating, "my opinion", from what I get to see and hear working
on the FT on the weekends)
The transfer table at the bottom of the helix has been test rolled.
and now locked in it's normal operating position, work on building the
straight trough section on it has begun. ( well to say it's straight
wouldn't exacly be the truth, it's got an AIRTIME hump in it !!!)
With the experience the FT carpenters have at this point, building
that section of trough should take about a week
The transfer table at the top of the helix is almost done and the
straight section of side friction track across that should be a couple
day project.
The finished steel work of the 5 car train is at Knoebels workshop
and the wood work and paddings are being added.
So, ... in about a week and 1/2, there should be the finished
train, testing on the FT
If everything goes well w/ testing, we might very well see this
ride open at the PPP
8-)
