Flying Turns Update

A whole train, or just one car? I assumed that one car would be built and tested, then a complete train and then another complete train or two?

I've talked with two different hardcore enthusiasts who say they won't go back because it's become too crowded.

Yay! Two fewer people in line

Actually, you're in luck. One of my friends married a coaster enthusiast, so that makes three people!

Long live the Big Bad Wolf

I hope to make it up there labor day weekend as my family has been for the past.. 10 or so years, this year is my first year not camping there with them, because of work :( So many people already called off that weekend weeks ago, and I can't get those days off now *sigh* its a huge tradition I hope this is the only year I will miss (plus my manager is just an ***hole to me for some reason). I will be there for a day or 2 possibly, just not the entire weekend (friday-monday) like before. Would be nice if the Turns was open then, but I'm not holding my breath. Also, while I may miss one tradition this year, a new one could start since I'm planning on my first PPP...

I was at the park yesterday and took some pics of the ride

Still no transfer switch :( Gee it would be nice to have those done when the train arrives.

On the webcam, it looks like they're working on the walls of the station. There seems to be a lot of metal involved in the roof supports for some reason.

I was to knoebels today... it turned out to be a good day dispite it was raining the whole way down and back (but not thoughout the day) anyway i was able to snap some pic. && videos!! i talked to the constuction guy and he don't know when it will be done but i guess in another month they are going to be starting testing (so i am guessing if testing they will have the real finished trains) because i did metion that they have tested it. anyway today they was working on the station... they put steel support beams up for the roof and i snaped some pic of that... i also noticed that some track is not yet complete (coming from 1st lift to helix and getting off helix to 2nd lift) anyway we all had alot of fun and i will be posting my pic/videos on a webpage and will give you all the link shortly!!! *** Edited 8/22/2007 2:39:02 AM UTC by Seth***

The hangar-style station framework is going up. I noticed it on the webcam.

Thanks for the pics and the updates, Seth. Now where's that guy who kept asking for pictures of the inside of Cosmotron?
nice pics, I was curious about how the area looked between Looper and the FT, nice how they put a lamp and tree in there. I love the picture of the trees really close to the helix, gives the impression the turns just kind of "grew" out of the landscape, lol, and shows once again how they spare as many trees as possible with construction.
hey not a problem with the pictures... i hope you liked the videos as well... and once the flying turns opens i will get a on-ride video of that. i just can't wait this ride looks so much bigger and better in person than what it does in pictures!!! one thing i also noticed was the enterance for the looper has been changed to make way for the flying turns.. in one of my pic it shows the enterance for the turns. *** Edited 8/23/2007 4:59:20 AM UTC by Seth***

It's a shame those extra trough rings didn't stay lol, would have been interesting. the roof over the station does look like it might resemble an airport hanger of some kind.

We headed down to Knoebels Wednesday afternoon, and I can say that I am more excited now then ever. The station is being built with materials used in municipal airport hangers, so it will resemble a hanger itself. everything as far as track work is complete other than the transfer, and that is pending the trains being delivered (from what I hear). I am still not hopeful for a 2007 openeing, but whenever it does open I will be there!!

Real men ride wood... coasters that is!
they put new august pic up on the knoebels whats new page...

~Seth
It looks from the first one like they're finally putting in the footers for the switches. I still don't know how having the storage track wrapped around the helix is supposed to work because of the height difference from the top to the bottom, but that's something they'll have to worry about when they have more than one train.

i don't think they will be having trains... if you notice on the website (flying turns website) it says: Trains: 2 people per car, 5 cars .... it does not say anything about a train. so that is a big ????

~Seth
It means 5 cars / 10 people per train. There are supposed to be 3 trains eventually. Actually they mean to run 3 at once; I don't know whether that means there will eventually be more than 3 for spares.

If you look at the 3rd and 4th pics for July on the What's New page, you'll see two chassis hooked together. In fact, the last shot that looks like one car body on the side of the trough is actually the back seat on the first chassis and the front seat on the second chassis. They built one that way to make sure they wouldn't collide.

Seth is correct. Each train will have 5 cars sitting two people.
I was at the park today and I was glad to see that all the brake cylinders seem to be in place. On the other hand, I still can't tell if all the footers for the switches are in place, and at the end of the helix by the road there were two footers laying that had been yanked out of somewhere.
