Flying Turns Update

Well, they've already filled in the trenches. That went faster than I thought it would.

This is somewhat random and not a huge deal, but is it possible for Knoebels to get a better looking rendering of the ride for their park map? The one on it now is inaccurate (second lift) and somewhat more "cartoony" then the models of Phoenix or Twister, like it doesn't show the real support structure. It's not a big deal and maybe I'm just being picky, just that alot of the renderings look very nice/realistic on maps such as these (Amusement Media) and are usually pretty accurate.
I'm not convinced that the map drawing of Twister is all that accurate either -- although it's pretty hard to tell!

The worst map representation of a coaster I've seen yet is Storm Runner. If I remember rightly, it doesn't even have the Immelman on it.

Haha, on a rainy and slow day we once picked apart the map and pointed out all the mistakes. Like that theres water in the top trough of the Skloosh (there isn't) and it has the wrong colors of the wheel seats. Ha, good times...

D.

Lots of parks represent their rides 'inaccurately'. As Jim S. pointed out, Hersheypark does it on their maps, and you many notice it on many Six Flags maps as well. It's really more a stylistic choice in the mind of the artist, not a rendering mistake per se.

Anyway, it's nice to see that progress on this intriguing ride is finally approaching an end. It's been a long time coming - not that I'm upset with the park. I usually visit Knoebels once or twice each summer and again in the fall, so I'm very anxious to experience this ride, hopefully soon!

Anyone going Friday the 25th? (tomorrow) I'm gonna try to make it there, just look for the guy in camo jean shorts and a black shirt with "Sinapse" on the front. Also have a black scorpio M on my right wrist lol. Just thought I'd mention that. I'll be flying solo most likely.
P18, did you make it to Knoebels this past weekend? If so, what did you see and hear about the Flying Turns?
I did make it:

I noticed it looked much larger in person, I've noticed that before but with more completed it just looks amazing. Of course this was almost a week ago, but when I was there they were just working on the final lift and hadn't started on the turn at the top (it's trough now though) and it seemed like I realized just how much still had to be done. The bottom of the lift wasn't connected to the helix, and the first lift hadn't even been started. It still looks as if its like that looking at the cams. Also theres the station to build. I asked one of the workers if he'd heard of any of these sites (Cbuzz specifically) he said not really, but said he gets asked by guests when it will be completed at least once every half an hour, lol. He said he estimated late June early July.

For some reason, the storage track is going to be wrapped around the helix rather than running parallel to the track in the station. So instead of a transfer track, there are going to be troughed switches at the top and bottom of the helix. I suspect that's why the helix isn't connected to lift #2 yet, because they need to build the switch. The storage track may not get built before it opens, because it may open with only one train, but the switches have to be built.

Looks as though the lift hill to the helix is being built. They appear to be moving along on things. I just wish we had a better view with the web cams.

Not to single you out dwn (you just happen to be the latest person to state it), but how many times are we going to hear this from different people. It's probably the most stated comment in this thread.

I was actualy suprised at how often the park has moved the cameras to accommodate the new construction zones. The view has been great up until basicly yesterday when one of the cameras became ubstructed because of the construction being basicly done through the turn into the lift. The camera from the top of the lift hill will be a great view now that (what i belive is) the second lift hill is being worked on. Once it begins to rise, the (somewhat obstructed) camera will once again be a good view.

Quit worring about the cameras so they can build the coaster. I want to ride it. :)

Ok, rant over. I feel better now. :)

LOL. When I clicked to submit my reply I thought I may have been making a mistake. I too can't wait for it to be done, I just like being able to see the progress. We're planning on a trip to Knoebels this summer and don't want to go without it being finished. A 3 hour ride with six kids can be grueling and don't plan on doing it twice.

I have hopes for it's opening this year, but my gut says next year. Regardless I'll be at Phun Phest.

I emailed them yesterday, their PR guy said he'd pass on the message. The cams are still stuck though. I haven't heard anything about flooding, and I think they went down before the big thunderstorms. I wonder if they dug up a cable?

I was there Sunday. Interesting that the turn coming out of the third lift back to the station appears to be trough. I didn't expect that.

RGB - from what I've been lead to believe the trains can only negotiate straight side-friction track.

Originally the initial helix was going to be track, not trough, but Fetterman said the trains wouldn't track it well, so they switched to trough.

The camera cables were probably not dug up as they are, for the most part, strung overhead. BTW, do you know the PR guy is married to Dick's sister. I can't step in "it" if I try.
