Hey Kim! I just noticed your post.

I've been an ACE member since 1990 and your Roller Coaster article on The Termite is the first thing I remember reading about coasters. To build a coaster with a drop off the roof of your house- how ingenious! Good to see you on the boards.

You asked about the cars for the Knoebels Turns and AFAIK, not much info has been released regarding them. The only thing I know for sure is that they are being built by Larson in Texas. I believe that Mr. Fetterman recently journeyed down there to check on the progress.

Hi Rob, nice to see someone remembers The Termite. Thanks for the kind words and info on train manufacturing. I didn't know that they were being built elsewhere.

Looks like they're trying to catch up on the Flying Turns Update page, they've just added some June pictures, complete with post-flood images.

I too remember the Termite. If memory serves, it's on the cover of an old issue of RC. I also remember seeing footage of it on a TV coaster program. The thing that most impressed me about your Termite was how you made the wood track much like the real thing and even had the banked turns. Very cool!

Long live the Big Bad Wolf

MythMaker 9, back on August 9 you posted "Will have new pictures posted shortly on my website: http://www.airphoenix.com " What's the latest on that project? Thanks.

FWIW, although Larson is indeed *building* the trains for KFT - I want to say that I'm *almost positive* the DESIGN work for the trains is being done by one Steve Okamoto...I'm sure you've heard of him... ;)

P.S. Once again, *Knoebels-sized* HEAPS o' praise to John Fetterman, not only for ALL you do for this fantastic hobby, but for keeping us apprised with your invaluable knowledge and insight... :)

More bents in place off the figure 12! (for the lift area) Looks alot higher then I imagined actually (especially with the guy who was just standing in thr front). *** Edited 8/17/2006 3:25:47 PM UTC by P18***
Wow, almost to the top of the lift now. This will be a fun period to watch Webcam 2. Many thanks to Knoebels for letting us watch construction over their shoulders.

ok everyone i just got back from a wonderful vacation from knoebels... now with the flying turns... i did not talk to any of the constuction ppl or get any pic but i noticed that they are making more bents (and doing a good job at the progress on it too) also while some of the constuction workers on the ground making bents i notices others up on the though (at the top 1st webcam) thing is you can not see it on the webcam where there working if only the webcam was a little more right but anyway ppl up there laying down wood on the though... most of all the though is done on the fig 12 the back of the ride is still the same no progress back there. but things are going right along.... ok now about my trip.. it was great. I rode the phoenix in the 1st seat .. if you have not yet been able to set upfront 1st seat you must do so its alot more fun and faster and more "airtime" also i notices online ppl where asking about the new "xd theater" ok i went on it and its right inside the roaring creek solon game room its $3.00 per person per ride and i think its worth it to try. they show 4 different movies: hunted mine ride, cosmic coaster, artic something, and aqua run... i seen all of them execpt for the artic one and I think that the hunted mine one was the best of them all so far. i also went on twister and even tryed out 2 rides i never rode b4 ... anyway this post is getting kinda long but if you wanna know more just ask me and i will tell. there is all info i got *** Edited 8/17/2006 3:40:37 PM UTC by Seth***

Yeah, I think they have to pour some more footers before they keep going, seems like they only have one more set for one more bend left in the direction they're going.

/\ Also, thanks for the info and glad you had a good time, seems like those bents you saw them making were for what they just put up now. *** Edited 8/17/2006 3:42:42 PM UTC by P18***

wow i just looked at the webcam and the bents they just put together when i was down there are all-ready up and they was not up yesterday night so they must of just put them up :)

~Seth
As P18 says, there isn't too much new right now to photograph. More progress internally on the trough and a few more bents. However he is right, they need to pour a ton more footers to continue the progress.

Don't worry, as soon as I have more pictures up I will let everyone know.

I think this is awesome, and just happen to think of something. It is really great to be able to watch the construction and follow it along, and it'll be really cool when we finally get to ride it, but I think this ride will be even more of a treat to those who aren't coaster enthusiasts or don't follow this sort of thing.

Specifially perhaps the older generation who remember the ride vaguely from back when they were a kid, strolling through the park casually and unknowlingly stumbling onto something ripped right out of their fond memories of their past and childhood now standing before them resurrecting those times gone by. Those will be reactions truly worth seeing. *** Edited 8/17/2006 3:55:56 PM UTC by P18***

It is amazing how the ride has progressed. Thanks Seth for keeping us up to date with the construction.glad you had a good time there.

Thanks to Mr. Fetterman also, for poping in and sharing his info. You are first class like everyone and everything at Knoebels.

More bents are up today. Fairly big-looking "small coaster" IMHO.

/\ I agree, the structure looks amazing, making it larger then I imagined at first.
I have taken some recent pictures last week of the current state of the Flying turns. They're posted on flickr. Take a look:
Flying Turns Photos

From what I talked to one of the construction guys they said they are 1 bent away from the highest point on the ride. There's no footers for it yet. As for the train, they are being built and they have one component done, but need to do another component.

It would be cool if they could have a single car on display for PPP!
