By removing some of the coasters, more family attractions can be added. Thus attracting more familes. Familes who spend more money in the park than thrill-seeking teens.

So how long before Cedar Point makes use of this? They should really pick up the ball and run with this tidbit. Maybe spend a few bucks and advertise in some eastern markets. "Most Coasters on the Planet" could be sung loud and clear.
"The park boasts an unheard of 17, yes, 17 roller coasters (more than any other park in the world)! With a lineup that includes three of the top 10 steel roller coasters in the world, Cedar Point is a coaster lover's dream come true."
There just not making a big deal about having the most coasters on earth like in previous years. (yet)
I'll believe the email when i see it for myself untill then BAH
I'm with Joey. Parks don't usually go out of their way to advertise removal of rides. What we need is some evidence.
How about this page on the SFMM site where is says, "...Six Flags Magic Mountain features 15 world-class roller coasters..."
Seems weird that they'd change it from 17 to 15 even if they doing something like accounting for Flashback and X currently being down.

Has anybody stopped to think about this...
Yes, but frankly it didn't take much stopping or much thinking.
Wonder what the sender's email addy is, hmmm.

Well, I wouldn't concider Goliath Jr. or Canyon Blaster exactly "world class". D'you think those were the two were the ones excluded in the count?

A park with 17 coasters isn't going to say, haey come to our park we have 10 great coasters and 7 crappy ones too. They are going to talk-up all their rides as if they are the best, regardless of wether it is true or not. Saying something is great or world class is a subjective opinion anyway.
On a different subject,
Question: CP03rider, what's the difference between saying best in the world or saying best on earth.
Awnser: There is no difference.

No, I'd say it is Psyclone and Flashback. There's no mention of either coaster on the "all rides" page or the "thrills" page except for the drop down list, but if you try to choose either coaster from the drop-down list it says "page cannot be displayed." The links for all of the other rides -- including Goliath Jr. and Canyon Blaster -- work just fine. If Psyclone and Flashback aren't being removed it seems awfully coincidental that the only reference to them leads to pages that aren't even there.
I must admit I'm a bit surprised that Psyclone is leaving. After Flashback I would have guessed Superman as the next coaster to go (based solely on park reports, I have never been to SFMM myself). Was Psyclone a maintenance nightmare? Worse than Supes?

If this is true, SFMM removed the two worst roller coasters without taking away from their overall divertsity. Of course there are a ton of other steel coasters to be statisfied with besides flashback, and even if Colossus is they only woodie, at least its decent. So overall, good move.
Certain ride pages not working, the park suddenly saying 15 coasters after years of selling themselves as having the most coasters - just stuff like that.

Uh. For the 2006 season, the park claimed 17 roller coasters on their website and "more than any other park in the world" and it has always included their two junior coasters. Just the same way Cedar Point includes theirs, or every other park for that matter.
Now, they claim to have "one of the largest collections of roller coasters" and list 15 roller coasters to their roster. The information on their website was changed to reflect the upcoming removal of these two rides.
Not satisfied? You guys want real confirmation? I contacted the park's PR spokesperson Sue Carpenter yesterday and she confirmed the dismantling process of both roller coasters.
That should do it for you.

It appears that CP thinks they have the most coasters on earth right now anyways (from CP's web site):"The park boasts an unheard of 17, yes, 17 roller coasters (more than any other park in the world)! In the past, having the record number has always been clouded by SFMM. It's like having to add an asterisk..." *does not include SBNO coasters". Kind of like Barry Bonds and Mark McGuire breaking Roger Maris' home run record. * "may include illicit performance-enhancing substances." Now Cedar Point can flat out boast the record, with no disclaimers to worry about. That's something to crow about.
My personal opinion was that they just kept it standing for the count. I'd theorize that the decision was made to scrap Psyclone, not Flashback. That puts them at 16, with CP at 17. Since they're now one down, there isn't a reason to keep it standing...down it comes.
