Makes me wonder how I would count siamese twins... ;)
Would those be African or European siamese twins? (monty python)

Maybe it's those of us who are warped who make the world better. Look at Thomas Edison. He had the right idea "I didn't fail 99 times, I just figued out what DIDn't work."

Do I get a new credit for each different song I hear while riding RnRC at MGM?

Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

The rule is kiddie coasters do not count for "normal" coaster enthusiasts
All too true..cuz the 'Normal' ones don't reproduce!

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.
I know of many coaster people who lead mostly normal lives.

Next you'll be telling me about the ACEr who turned down a free buffet.
Oh, and I don't count siamese twins...only coasters ;)

So now I want to ask you two questions:1] What if Dorney decided that Steel Force would be better turned horizontally 180 degrees? The station would be where the helix is and the helix where the station was. They carefully dismantled the ride, poured new footers [naturally] and rebuilt it. It would change the atmosphere of the park as well as the experience of the ride. Do you recount it?
2] What if a company built two parks at the same time with identical layouts? In the center of both parks, amidst virtually identical atmostpheres, sat a coaster. You visit both parks and ride both coasters...how many are you adding to your count?
Thanks for the debate. I enjoy it. ;)
Any time - the debate is fun - especially since there is no right or wrong. :)
To answer your questions:
1. To reverse Steel Force would, to me, not be a new coaster, since it's in the same park. Not that it's an arbitrary line I draw - to me it wouldn't be a significantly different ride. "Same church, different pew," if you will. You'll still have the same smells in the air, the view of the same rides, even the most subtle part of the ride experience: other riders. Dorney draws a much different type of guest (and employee culture) than GAdv. Every park I've been to, regardless how close to another (even Lakemont vs. Del Grosso's) has a feel from the other patrons/employees that is unique to itself, yet in some mysterious way changes little from year to year in each park. That even applies to corporate Cedar Fair who wants practically everything in every park to be uniform.
2. Short answer: two because they are still different parks. The park would have to be massive (or enclosed) to look completely the same because you have things in the distant skyline that, although subtle and subconscious, are still different. Also, I'd still have the different "feel" from the other patrons and employees. Case in point: KI/KD - the entranceway up to the Eiffel Tower is practically the same, and although it breeds familiarity, still retains it's uniqueness. And Uniqueness Rocks! ;) Now if you can instill the same corporate culture with the same type of guests, then I would (GASP!) count it as only one.
Hence why I don't/won't re-count rides when the park is renamed. :)
Don't get me wrong - I'd recollect the subtleties when talking about it, like the fact that I have ridden steel force every seat in every train, in sunshine and rain, from 40s to 100s temperature, in thunder and lightning (train was already halfway up the lift when the storm rolled in fast) and even snow and sleet! It's still just one credit to me, though, in that magic number. While they are all different experiences, they're not different enough to me.
Which is an argument that anyone could use, regardless where you draw the line.
