DP Laser sold

Just FYI, I've recieved airtime on Raptor in between the two final inversions. It's not great air, but it's there. My 3 favorite Raptor elements are the first drop, the dizzy approach to the mid-course break and, of course, the final helix.

I also receive some air on Raptor too, the after mentioned first drop in the back of course, but also on the zero G roll. Next time you ride a ride with one of those, stick your feet straight out right before the inversion, you'll get a big pop of air transitioning out of them.

The only think I am worried about is they closed Hercules with no notice and that was in September.

Kind of different. If I recall, Hercules closed with NO warning what so ever... wasn't even announced that it was being removed... it just was closed with out any advance notice. So, while no notice has been given when Laser will close, it IS known that it is sold and therefore will be closing, so get there and get your last rides soon.

Just throwing this out there - "spitballing".

My point is more that even though *we* the coaster enthusiasts have knowledge of the fact that Laser is going....it would be a really nice gesture of CF/DP to let the LOCALS know. The people who have been supporting the park for years or even decades deserve that courtesy, IMO.

I agree. I never actually got to ride Hercules (I heard I didn't miss much), but the DAY I finally decided to ride, after multiple visits to the park with Herc being open, I went to the ride and it was closed. No one knew why. They thought it was due to technical difficulties and it would be open again. The GP deserves to know.

The GP deserves nothing.

I don't blame them for not releasing the news. I wouldn't want to deal with pointless petitions either.

Just a bit of trivia: Does anyone remember what the Lazer was called before it was called the Lazer? And does anyone remember why the Lazer was NAMED the Lazer? The second part of this is more likely known by locals.

You'll get nothing and like it! :)

(Caddyshack reference too old for this crowd?)

^^Gonch, ha ha! No way is the reference too old. :)

Yep, Lazer was once Colossus. It was changed to Lazer to tie in with the local "big" radio station at the time, Lazer 104. Lazer 104 is now B104.

Anyone remember the old track colors before they changed it to the pretty greenish yellow and purple?

^^Just not a big "caddyshack" fan. Of course, I know a quote where worlds collide:

"They've gone to PLAID!!!!"

I do know the Blue Streak at CP was origionally brown. (Brown Streak sounnds pretty nasty...) and was named AFTER the local high school team, not the other way around.

I drive in & out of Boston, so I ride coasters to relax!

Anyone ever hear the rumors about how the Laser was sinking? Each time I rode it, I noticed more boards propping it up which kind of lead people to believe it. Being that it's on top of a filled in swimming pool, I guess it's possible?

LOL, Oh how cute!

If it's anything like Cedar Point's old Wildcat support wise it's very possible it started to "walk" away. I never saw Laser up close.

^ I thought it was the Jumbo Jet that was walking away.

Maybe this thread is still open in the hopes that Laser will come back someday?

It may have been, John. Both rides are a little before my time.

I wish... it was one of my favorites. I was happy I at least got a last ride in the last day the park was open last year.

Lazer is back in Germany and will operate the fair circuit this season.
The planned premiere was to be on May 1 but the ride will receive brand new trains which are not finished yet.

The coaster will be called "Teststrecke" (Test-track) and will have cars themed to racing/formula 1.

I tis hard to see rides that we enjoy go away! I remember when the Corkscrew from Geauga Lake was sold and sent to India! I still miss that ride, but at least it is still going..... Just remember you always will be able to ride it in your mind.... Also watch in in action on you tube!!!
