Dominator trains now on site at Kings Dominion

For real. I mean, Jeff sits at his PC 24-7 waiting for news submissions to post, right?
Well, he has the "end all and be all" of mobile devices, so he shouldn't NEED to be at his PC 24-7. Right? :)

According to their press release, Dominator has the tallest roller coaster loop. Magic Mountain's Viper first loop is taller at 144-feet.

Semantics.

Viper's loop is higher, but Dominators is taller.

The first loop on both coasters begin at ground level and their tallest points are 144-feet and 135-feet respectively. If Viper's first loop were to be entered from an elevation of 100-feet above ground, then it definitely would just be higher. Sure, it has a much, much smaller radius than Dominator's, but Kings Dominion should have noted Dominator's is the largest roller coaster loop. Viper's definitely taller. :) ;)

^ How about tallest comfortable loop? Then Dominator would qualify.

They should have renamed it "Dominionator."

LOL.

Maybe it's just my twisted mind, but I always thought "Dominator" had a slight double entendre feel to it. You know, Batman wears black leather and a codpiece, and so forth. It somehow seemed to fit with the rebranding of Superman as Steel Venom.

^ Don't forget the newly introduced "BEHEMOTH" (sorry, had to add caps for added huge-ness).

Though, I really won't start getting worried until one pops up named "Intruder".

Well, if Ford can name a car "Probe" . . .

All I have to say is I am extrememly jealous of KD cause Dominator is right up there with my fav coasters. I wish KI had gotten it and MA could have had X-Flight.
One of my fondest memories was CoasterEXT '05 when we got stuck on the lift for 20 minutes. Some of the most fun 20 minutes EVER! :)
I'm glad Dominator going to be taken care of and appreciated for the coaster it is, KD is a lucky ducky! :)

I was on that train. That was cool. *** Edited 10/24/2007 12:10:06 PM UTC by Jason Hammond***

It's a hell of a lot better than 'Hurler' and the Wayne's World theme.

Agreed. Paramount was "paramount" in non-theming the parks and just slapping cheesy, short-lasting movie names on everything. However, Cedar Fair gets a 0 out of 10 on theming attempts with a few rare exceptions. They have the most generic names for the rides on the market. Hopefully they will at least landscape the parking lot, make the loading station match the international theme and build another berm since this ride is outside the berm.

Landscaping? I hope you like concrete squares and silver que rails ;)

Think about how cool this ride would be with some tunnels, etc. Maybe tracer lights around the loop or something.

I thought we had agreed that S:KC has a larger loop (diameter-wise)? The press release Duane has up for S:KC has the loop at 114', but having JUST been on the ride, there's simply NO way that is true, since the hang-time seems to last *forever*. My thought is that the press release has a common typo where the stats SHOULD have read 144' instead of 114'. A 24' height difference between the top of the loop and the highest point at 168' makes sense to me.

I have decided at long last that I prefer BKF's ride to that delivered by S:KC, but it's kinda like the Shockwave/Mindebnder argument. One has the superior RIDE, the other has a superior SETTING. ;)

^We discussed this a while back, but this is the internet, not everyone agreed--even though I got the information straight from Bob Mampe of B&M. The press release was in error. If I remember correctly the numbers were transposed and the actual height of the loop should have read 141 feet.

Anyone who has ridden Superman Krypton Coaster or even looked at photos of it should realize the loop has to be bigger than 114 feet.

rollergator's avatar
^LOL, a transposition makes sense. I was thinking of the *other* error where the '1' got doubled instead of the '4'. Either way, the hangtime would have been QUITE minimal had the loop been 27'-30' smaller. It was as long-lasting as I remembered....and *delicious*... :)

P.S. Anytime "everyone" agrees....probably there's something wrong in the logic. We in that context meant "almost all reasonable people" ;) :)

P.P.S. Since I get to have some fun here too - from the clifftop tour, I could CLEARLY see that the Man of Steel was indeed wearing his Tim Tebow underoos...LOL!

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Anyone else notice that the park has a picture of Thunderhawk on the page with the press release for Dominator?

http://www1.cedarfair.com/KingsDominion/news/detail.cfm?item_id=651

Is that some kind of joke? Or are those the ride's new colors and they're counting on visitors to their website being really dumb.

Sheesh, they've already cannibalized the rides, now they're cannibalizing photos of the park as well.

At least GL will live on, in pictures on KD's web site, if nothing else.

^^Interesting. The pic wasn't there when I first posted that link on the previous page in this thread. I did see the pic of Thunderhawk shortly after you posted, but guess what? It ain't there now. :)

I'd say 'so what if it's not the right coaster,' but I don't feel like starting practically the same argument that's in the news thread.

Well I guess they caught their blunder & took care of it.Perhaps the reason we havn't seen a photo yet is because the park still hasn't decided what the color scheme will be?
What's wrong with the current color scheme?
Vater's avatar
Nothing. I am hoping they at least repaint it as the track is pretty faded, but I don't care what colors they paint it.
