Deja Vu, when will it open

Just a thought... If the DV's are so sensative to temperatures like everybody claims, it doesnt make too much sence to keep one in Chicago. Yes, it is warm in the summer, but wouldn't this ride be better placed in, say SFoT where the weather is consistantly warmer year-round than up north?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the ride stay put, but in a business aspect, to me, it doesn't make to much sence to keep it here if the weather is that big of a factor.

I heard about a week ago from some one who was at SUF media day that Deja Vu's trains had stress fractures in it and that was why all of them are down for rehab. He also said the trains would be rebuilt and be 4 across instead of staggered. Now of course he might have been just shovelling me a bunch of ****.

So if the train isnt making the catchwagon, can the ride not be modified so that the catchwagon is set lower? I would think that would make a lot of sense. Also, could the towers be extended or is there already too high of G's in the ride as it is to add additional speed? I like the rumors about the four across trains but would they really do anything to solve the problems with valleying?

Well, let's travel in the *way back machine* to when we first discussed ALL these problems with the steel statues known as DV....

Four across seating (assuming the same capacity) would greatly reduce the length of the train as compared to the horrendous ones currently on the DVs. A shorter train raises the *effective* drop height, increasing speed, and reducing the risk of valleying....to say NOTHING about how much easier loading/unloading would be. Increased G-forces *might* be a concern though....but that's because of the narrow turning radius from vertical to horizontal (towers to platform). Fixing THAT, which is really the *best* solution IMO, is akin to the "taer it down" philosophy as far as cost, so I'm not betting on that....whatever SF can do to get them running without incurring tho$e kinds of expenses, that's where they'll turn...;)

The Catch wagon track goes all the way down in-between the Loop and the 2nd tower, so if that was a problem that would be easy to fix. And when it is in running the catch wagon goes almost all the way down the 2nd tower, so I think that is not a problem.

Also, weather is not a factor. I have it seen it running in all kinds of weather.

When I was in line for SUF someone in front of me asked the Line control person when Deja Vu will open. The Line control person said that he is the Ride Op for Déjà vu (last year and this year) and they have been having all sorts of problems that he does not know when it will open. Also, I heard from some who works at SFOG that the trains are be reworked to run better and should open soon.

How much shorter would the trains be without staggered seating? I can't imagine it would make a huge difference in terms of G forces. Aren't V2's transitions from vertical to horizontal the same as DV? (Then again, V2's trains are really long.

Thanks Chitown. I had always heard that the weather had something to do with the grease in the bearings of the wheels. Now I know. :)

Miss coastergames.net? Here is a good site.

Weather isn't a factor... I've ridden DejaVu in below 40's weather at Last Blast (hats and gloves weather, literally). And I've also ridden it in 90 degree weather in the middle of summer. So, weather can't be TOO much of a factor.
Anyone know about the one at sfmm as I am headed there in about 3 weeks and really want to give it a go.

I hope they kill that iron yuppie. Thinks he's so big. The great homer simspon

All reports that I have read say its open at SFMM.

Well, Deja Vu has a small footprint...doesn't work right...maybe they'll ship one of them off to SFAW.

For the sake of yourself, don't take anything I say seriously.

This is in reference to the question about the DV at SFMM. Interesting. Makes little sense though.

If they fit Xcellerator into it's small footprint, I'm sure they can fit a rocket into the Deja Vu space at SFOG. For the record, I'm sure they're not going to "tear it down", but it must be very frustrating for the park, as it is very frustrating to the public. Everytime I've been to SFOG, I've heard many random members of the general public complaining about Deja Vu being closed.

Possibly good news! On Deja Vu and SFGAm today, they had the shades up, and I saw a couple people inspecting the station area and and taking measurements and things like that. Still no train though, but could this be a sign of a future opening? I hope so...

Just to let y'all know, Deja Vu at SFoG opened today at 11 am for the 2003 season. The heavy modifications to the infrastructure on the trains seem to have helped, as the ride ran flawlessly today. It had three minor breakdowns, but none of which were major, and the ride was up within minutes.

Are the differences in the trains noticeable? And what are they?

They're basically "beefier" as many of the old areas which had developed stress fractures have been replaced with more sturdy, reliable parts. For appearance, the train looks exactly the same. It seems to ride quieter though...

So you rode it? Or just heard it?

Thanks for the update. Since we tend to lag behind you guys about a month with regard to the Dejas,I'm hoping for an early July opening.

I work at the nearby Scream Machine. I've heard it and talked to the mechanics, watched it run. Done just about everything but ride it this year, which i will accomplish tomorrow. However, one of my friends who has rode it this year says that the back seat is now downright brutal on you. As long as its safe, I guess its a good tradeoff....
