Coasting for Kids 2011

Yay! Have you heard that Dorney is where it's at? ;)

It looks like the Dorney group is already off to a great start in raising funds, so that's fantastic! Justin (sirloindude) created a team called The Fun and Only Team. Folks can feel free to join us just for kicks! Just know that we will be discussing g forces and comparing laps all day. Bwahahaha...just kidding. But we are likely to joke about such things. :)

I saw Justin's name on the list but I didn't know he was sirloindude. Yeah we're doing great! Hope meet some of you that day.

Carrie, that extra 1/16th of a g on lap 10 was no joke.

I just saw that ValleyFair! posted their details. Registration isn't until 3pm, and the "event time"..which I guess is the hours during which participants can marathon Wild Thing if they so choose...is from 5-10. Curious about those hours...why not have it during the day? And if someone is registered for CFK, can they not enter the park before the 3pm registration? Seems odd..not that I'm heading for Minny. Dorney Park is where it's at!

That's one expensive $40 boxed lunch right there. It's almost as if Valleyfair! doesn't really want to help, but are obligated because it's something that CF told them they have to do.

I'd give $40 and expect nothing in return, so I wouldn't describe it that way.

Ok, maybe I'm missing something here. Where are the details for each specific park posted at? I've searched her and on the coasting for kids page and can't find it.

I was wondering the same thing, Jason.

The little map is interactive at http://givekidstheworld.org/coastingforkids/ . It tells the details.

I just signed up, by the way (See my sig to donate!). I was confused about whether I should sign up as a participant, or a virtual rider. Being unemployed means that it may be kind of difficult for me to pay the $40, and for me to even get out to King Island, but if I find a job before the event, I definitely want to go. I e-mailed Kara and asked her input on what I should do, and she was a big help.

She also said that Give Kids The World will be taking care of the t-shirts this year, which is excellent news seeing that many of us didn't get one last year.

On the blue map, rolling your cursor over each park gives the details. I haven't checked tonight yet, but as of this afternoon, Dorney, Kings Dominion and Great America had yet to post details.

Woohoo, I registered for Cedar Point this morning! Looking forward to doing this again... curious to see how long I'll last on Magnum though. :)

Here's my fundraising page.

Just did some preliminary figures. It's worlds easier to add it all up this year.

51 participants x $40 entry = $2,040.00

Money raised after entry = 3,482.61

Total raised so far $5,522.61

I don't think the FirstGiving stuff accounts for company matching, by the way. Last year I was able to do those as "write-in," but I don't think you can this year.

I signed up myself along with my step-son, who is Autistic. Decided to go ahead tomorrow and sign up my wife and her daughter as well and make it a family event. We alreayd have reservations made for that weekend for Breakers.

BTW - If you ask Kara for logos, she should be able to help. She sent them to me so I can use them on my flyers I am making to hang up at work and a couple of other places.

Cool, thanks for that! I'll probably email her tomorrow so I can have them up next week. Still waiting for my mom to decide if she's doing it or not so I can decide if I want to go to KI or CP.

New total: $7,794.35

With only 56 participantes so far, there are a lot of parks that still need some love. Time to kick it into high gear guys, less than 5 weeks to go.

Speaking of which, California's Great America, Kings Dominion and Dorney still have not announced thier details.

Yeah, a couple don't have ANYONE signed up yet.

I've been checking Dorney often. Any idea why the delay on those three parks? Is it a given that the featured coaster at Dorney will be Steel Force?
