Coaster Choice Award Winners

The results are a little...weird. Cedar Point food? Come on, that's just absurd. Anyone who voted for CP food hasn't been to a Busch or Disney park.

Or Knoebels or Kennywood for that matter. I would take some good home made chow to the preprocessed junk they serve at CP anyday.

Because how could a stupid impulse win in such a category? It appears as though not even (most of) the CP fan boys are that ridiculous. As is, I wonder how WT could possible rate so high. I mean, come on. I don't think the poll was "rigged" or anything, it was just obviously doomed from the beginning due to the nature of the site.

Knoebel's has the best food I have ever had the experience of eating at a park. The pavillion across from the Parachute Drop has amazing food of all types.

"Then why did Xcelerator beat Wicked Twister in two categories? I just don't see what in those awards, besides the food thing would cause anyone to think that everyone is biased towards CP".

I'm pretty sure Xcelerator benefitted from the excitement over TTD. If CP were building a 200ft flying coaster, I'm pretty sure S:UF would have passed with 'flying' colors. But that's just my opinion. ;)

If Wicked Twister had beaten out Xclerator, then it would have been absolute conclusive proof that the results were skewed. Is the fact that Xclerator did, in fact, win proof that the results are even, or is it the exception that proves the rule? My guess is that not too many 'Buzzers have ridden Xcelerator compared to Wicked Twister, but Xcelerator beat it out anyway, which leads me to believe that dozens of people who've never even seen Xcelerator voted for it. Who knows what to make of any of it, other than it's just a popularity contest amongst some educated enthusiasts and a proportionally larger amount of kids who type "w00t!!!11" on a daily basis.

Den, if u livd were chris livs, u kud vote mor then onse....in Illinoy u ken vote even if ur ded...;)

bill, did vote, but I don't think I picked any of the winners...for me, that's the sickest of all illnesses....voting for rides just so you can be "on the winning team"....of course, I didn't vote for Nader just so I could be on the winning team, so maybe I shouldn't be allowed to vote anymore either...esp. since Gore lost anyway...;)

That was low 'gator'.

Although I wondered why I saw some hearses parked outside of the voting precincts. :)

Yet Xcelerator beat WT twice in the polls. I think that alone devalues any argument about CP bias in the poll. And the fact that Mean Streak wasn't nominated for best wood coaster. ;)

Yeah, but SoB was nominated, and I don't know about you, but it should not be anywhere near the top of any enthusiest poll (GP is another story). The group here does seem to be very Ohio-centric (could that really be a word?), and I think that is why you get things like CP having best food, most love coasters but don't really travel that much, so they know no better. Not their fault, that is just how it is, and it is just a web poll, so I don't really care myself. I think Mitch's poll and the Golden Tickets are much more reliable.

Chi, while I normally would agree that it was "low", you have to remember I come from a state that still isn't really sure who *we the people* voted for...there was so much wrong with Florida's "voter purge", I can't say FL's electoral votes belonged to anybody other than Spurrier...;)

C'mon now. S:RoS beat MF head to head in Mitch's poll 22-7-1 (2002). And yet here (as mentioned) MF won by almost a 4-1 ratio. There has to be more than a few ballot stuffers causing this kind of discrepancy.

(To clarify: I don't really care about the actual results, I'm just wondering why there's such a big discrepancy in the results).

It's really not at all complicated...a poll such as the Coasterbuzz ones allows people who haven't been on all the rides in a given category to vote, and whoever gets the most votes wins independently of head to head numbers.

Mitch's poll lets anyone vote, but you're not allowed to say that SROS is better than MF unless you've actually been on both of the rides in question. The difference in the results is very simple, the people who're putting MF over the top here haven't been to SFNE to ride SROS, only here their vote is still considered valid because the poll is a simple popularity contest with rider experience having zero impact on the outcome.

Even polls such as the Golden Tickets as run by Amusement Today run into these kinds of issues (in spite of AT's stringent policy on having only seasoned enthusiasts vote) and the issue only gets exacebrated by running a popularity contest style poll on a web site that's frequented by young, inexperienced fanboys of a given park.

Say what you will about the poll being meaningless and so on, but other posters are 100% correct in saying that this poll has no hope of becoming reputable the way it's currently being run...the only thing that we can safely tell by looking at the results is that Coasterbuzz is frequented by people who haven't been to many parks outside of Ohio, how else would you have Cedar Point winning best food of all the ridiculous things?

Best steel? Debatable, but far from out there.
Best Hyper? Sure, again, debatable, but far from an unusual thing to say.
Best food? Um...yeah, no bias at all.

So your opinion is better than that of others.

You're exactly the kind of person I hate going to parks with. I'd rather go with "GP" to a park any day before so-called "enthusiasts."
