Coaster Choice Award Winners

Ummm, I guess it was Cedar Point / Cedar Fair's year.

While I agree with both, I was surprised that Xcelerator bested S:UF for best new steel and that MF beat X for best steel.

Best Food winner: Cedar Point?

Other than that, we got the usual standard results.

Yeah, the "official" release is tomorrow, but I wasn't that surprised about anything other than the food. CP food ain't bad, but better than BGW (or even IOA)? Obviously the fan boys have spoken.

Superman vs. Xcelerator to me was a which-is-more-novel contest, and I'm honestly surprised it was Xcelerator that won.

I do give credit to the people who at least nominated Air, enough to indicate how significant it was as the first in its class. It's a shame that type of ride had to arrive in the states to get more attention.

I'm really curious about the discrepancy in the MF vs. S:RoS SFNE results here and on Mitch's polls. Not just the fact that MF won here, but that it won by a 4-1 ratio over S:RoS. Is this a case of lack of party politics where many/most of S:RoS's votes went to MF instead and split the "intamin hyper party"?

I found the nominees laughable, and the results as well. To state the obvious its more like a sentimental competiton...and ofcourse Cedar Point/Fair comes up the winner.

Considering anyone in the forum could nominate a coaster or park in each of the categories, AND vote on the subsequent nominations, I can't believe the results are biased in any way.

Personally, my votes were not all for Cedar Fair, even though CP is my "home" park, and I voted for MF because I have yet to ride S:ROS.

The results are a little...weird. Cedar Point food? Come on, that's just absurd. Anyone who voted for CP food hasn't been to a Busch or Disney park.

I also find it just downright odd that SoB should receive a higher percentage of the vote than Legend. You'd have a hard time finding anyone here who doesn't have Legend in his top 10 woodies, but there are dozens who loathe SoB.

This is ridiculus!!Only 2 awards were won by something other than Cedar Fair.Whats up with all the FanBoys...Xcelerator isn't that great come on!!I disagreed with almost every category.Come on people cedar fair isnt that good, its just cedar point that you like.

I guess CPLady has a point which I just sort of over looked. I bet the most visited park by buzzers is CP, head and shoulders. I personally refrained from voting in a category that I hadn't experienced 75% of the nominees or so, (or one nominee that I judged to be in heavy competition for the lead), but I would imagine that instead of the "fanboys" being out in full force, it's just people who've been to CP and not been to other parks to ride other rides (which is what makes Mitch's poll so darn sexy).

That would definitely explain the discrepancy between MF and S:RoS here and on Mitch's considering SFNE doesn't seem to be a really heavily targeted vacation spot (in spite of S:RoS's whooping on MF in Mitch's poll).

Can you tell wheter I liked S:RoS, the king of all hypers, better than Millennium Bores? ;)

Heck, I'd rather eat at SFGAm that CP... Most of the stuff's about the same quality, and service is generaly better in IL (we don't get many international employees that, not being able to speak English, can't be ride ops, and have to work food or merchandise).

Yeah!! Magnum's still up there, baby!! I'm satisfied.

What is the link to Mitch's poll? I filled out a ballot but I dont seem to have it in my favorites anymore, which is weird. Thanks. Oh yea, my favorite wood seemed to be dethroned from its woods and caprtured by a Ghostrider. Though it gave a huge battle...:)

You know what I say? Just forget it. This is other peoples votes, not all yours. Feel what you want to feel about your favorite park/coaster, but don't dis polls like these that have mixed opinions of hundreds of people. Most of the time I dont agree with Travel/Discovery Channel polls, but I dont care what other people feel, because what do they matter?

I must admit I'm surprised Knoebels wasn't nominated for best food. Sure Knoebels is my homepark, but that's not where I'm coming from. For goodness sakes, the park won best food in the ACE polls! I guess the fanboys really did speak didn't they? ;)

If at first don't succeed, find out if the loser gets anything.

It's funny that IOA is nominated for all 4 Park categories (only park to do this) and yet it got the third place percentage for Park of the Year. That doesn't always work out for the Oscars either (LOTR:FOTR), but I thought I'd mention it. I love the park though, because it has a nice balance of great coasters and rides for almost every member of the family, fun dark rides, loads of theming, and a few extras thrown in.

I think so too MG. Watch Dragster get CP nominated and win Best Theme next season. Everyone must still be grading on a "curve". Waterparks included with admission, incredible woodies, dark rides, and well-rounded variety don't cut it any more. ;)

I think a Best Shows category would be fun for next year.

I'd never vote for S:ROS at SFNE simply because the park it sits in is an absolute hole. Yea, maybe it's unfair to the ride itself, but they have a great ride on their hands, but it often runs with one train. Perhaps if they worked on their operations a little bit and let more people per day experience the ride (and all of their other rides), they'd get a better showing in polls.

Having said that, I definitely would have voted for Millennium Force in the "Best Kiddie Ride" category, but I think it's lacking in the "Best Steel Coaster" category. I'm happy to see that Phantom's Revenge and Magnum were nominated because I feel they are both superior.

I'd agree that BGW's food is probably better than CP's although I could really go for some Midway Market chicken or Happy Friar Fries right now! :)

Was kennywood nominated for food? I believe they have some of the best foods you can get at any amusement/theme park! I just love the chicken and cheese fries. Can't wait till kennywood opens so I can get like 3 orders!
Man, what does Holiday World have to do to win park of the year? Add a Giga coaster? There isn't a more highly touted park among enthusiasts, yet in the end people feel compelled to stay *home*(er). Not even a nomination. It reminds me of something my friend once said about Six Flags parks. Some people do indeed enjoy their times at SF parks, until they get home and it's time to write their TR. This is where "homer-itis" hits their fingers. ;)

Congrats to Walt on Virtual Midway winning site of the year. Keep up the excellent work.

It's all fun and games 'til someone gets hurt. Then it's hilarious. :)

I realize that we're talking Australian ballot here, but is there anyone who has been to Cedar Point and Islands of Adventure and still voted for CP as "Best Food" willing to explain their position?

I mean, absolutely nothing at CP compares to Mythos or Confisco's Grill (and if you want to bring up the Marina eats I guess you have to give IOA the Citywalk attachments like Emeril's and NBA City -- no, really, the food at NBA City is amazing for a themed concept). But even the counter service at IOA at Enchanted Oak and Thunder Terrace Falls blows away even the best in terms of sit-down at Cedar.

Sure, Cedar's Midway Market has volume, but so does the buffet at Circus McGurkus -- with better quality to boot.

Now if you just went to IOA and wound up grabbing a hot dog out by Marvel or something at one of the two food courts then that's ordinary but it's still better (to me, okay).

If you're going to go beyond the meals, Cedar Fair has nothing on, say, Knoebel's but some fry stands at Cedar can't compare to the funnel cakes with strawberries, whipped cream and chocolate or the Moose Juice or the hand-dipped ice creams at Seuss or the seasoned popcorn.

Hats off to the winners, but hats off in the best food only gives me a reason to scratch my head on this one.

I'll admit to being one of the folks who voted for a lot of CP stuff, simply because I hadn't been to/on any of the other nominees in a long time....
