Coaster Choice Award Winners

About the whole 4:1 ratio MF over S:ROS thing...

Don't forget that a lot of people in Mitch's poll purposely put MF as their least favortie ride only to "sabotage" its ranking. It is pretty difficult to sabotage this poll as you can only vote once...Just a thought...

I voted for CF stuff to, like Xcelerator for coaster of the year because without the hydraulic launch we wouldn't have Top Thrill Dragster. And CP for best food because it's the only park that I've gotten a lot of food at, I think it's pretty good and the restaraunts have nice settings like the Breakwater cafe on Lake Erie. Also MF has been voted the best steel coaster, so I think that's understandable that it won over X. Just my opinion.

Cedar Point RCT2 recreation-coming soon

I don't think everyone that's been to CP has been to SFMM and the reverse. MF isn't one of my top 5 in Ohio, let alone the US. CP could have created TTD without Xcelerator (and have you been on it or did you just vote for it because it was similar to TTD?). Afterall, it was built at a CF park. It's nice to have a testing grounds though to make sure it will work at their flapship park. I don't blame them!

Koaster King: Dragster *could* have been built without Xcelerator, but it would have been a bad idea to try.

We all know that at this point, Xcelerator has had its share of Intamin prototype problems. Would Cedar Fair really want their world record breaker to have daily downtime? Now that will earn you some bad press and upset guests. CF is a bit smarter than that, I think, and as such we have Xcelerator first.

I think Xcelerator's wins are an agknowledgement that the rocket coaster is a great concept that has much potential for future installations.

Wow, Ghostrider won best wooden coaster. Give me 1.5 months to ride Legend, Raven, Beast and Shivering Timbers and I will get back to you on that one. Either way, I don't think you could go wrong with any of those, its mostly a matter of personal taste.

Ive been to Cedar Point, and Islands of Advanture, and let me just say Kennywood beats them both in terms of food in my book. While Islands of Adventure aint bad, CP is a joke. No better than anyplace else.

I know CFM and I already stated that, but thanks.

So Millennium Force won the best steel coater and Cedar Point for the best food? I hope so because I LOVE CEDAR POINT!!

What a bunch of crybabies. How many times do I have to say that it's a popularity contest? So freakin' what?

And with an average of 2,000 votes per category, and fewer nominations, I don't want to hear any complaining, because obviously some of you didn't do your part.

I agree that the CP food thing is pretty absurd, but hey, I didn't vote for them either.

Above all, remember that you need not subscribe to the results if you don't agree with them. This is not the Word of God.

Totally agree about Confisco Grill at IOA. Awesome food (the vegetable pizza is among the best thing I had the chance to eat.), great prices (6$ for the the forementioned pizza and the prices of the burgers are comparable to standard theme park fast food prices). Best theme park restaurant for casual dining for me.

Then... for the theme park with best food, EPCOT, easily. Why? Where else can you eat Teppan dining (more commonly known as a japanese steakhouse), 2 buffets and more.

I'd never vote for S:ROS at SFNE simply because the park it sits in is an absolute hole. Yea, maybe it's unfair to the ride itself, but they have a great ride on their hands, but it often runs with one train. Perhaps if they worked on their operations a little bit and let more people per day experience the ride (and all of their other rides), they'd get a better showing in polls.

Technically, its mostly Intamin's fault.

Technically? Can you please give me the technicalities on that?

WOOD: It does a body good.

If having fun discussing the awards is considered being crybabies, then maybe we shouldn't discuss anything at all. It defeats the purpose if we can't see the results of something and then say that we agree or disagree. If everyone agreed, this would be pretty boring and useless. If it's not to discuss, then what do we do with it? Say "Oh, ok. That's nice. On to the next thread!"

Oh, excuse me. I forgot bragging rights for Cedar Point were at stake! :)

-Danny
*just kidding Jeff, everyone lighten up!*

With CP getting the award for best food (and Jeff, remember when you said it wouldnt happen) :), maybe an option of "Outside of the park food is the only way to go" should be added.

Just messin, but if you added that selection, I would probably vote for that.

'Chitown',---- who thinks the local hotdog stand down the street from him has better food than CP.

Danny - give it up...we all know you're a PKI Fanatic ;)

OK, on a serious note. I voted. Yes, I realize it's a popularity contest and I pretty much knew when casting my votes who would win. It's Jeff site, it's Jeff's poll and no one is forced to vote.

My only beef is that I felt some of the nominees were not deserving. For example, including SFMM in the "best capacity" category would be like Carrot Top being nominated for "best actor" and, IMHO, it cheapens the poll. If it's Jeff's intention to eventually turn the awards into something that's respected and valued by the nominees and winners alike something is going to have to be done to make sure that the ballot box is not stuffed and that the right nominees make the list.

On the other hand, if this is just a fun, harmless little poll that means nothing then there's no harm in seeing SFMM nominated for "best capacity," CP for "best food," and others that were laughable at best.

Agreed Moosh, but you know Tomb Raider: The Ride deserved Best Supporting Ride in a Seasonal Park! =p

At this point, it really doesn't matter, but Knott's has some darn good food. Fried chicken anyone? Boysenberry Pie for dessert? And wash it all down with some awesome boysenberry punch... So next year, all of you CF fanboys can vote for a CF park that really does have good food. ;)

You think I'm crying now Jeff? Try leaving Flashback off the list of nominees next year and see what happens! ;)

Cram it up your pie hole, Danny. You're the biggest crybaby of them all, especially where Cedar Point is concerned.

Moosh: Like I said before... this is democracy. I've never been to SFMM, but I get the strong impression that the park's capacity is terrible. So am I to just reject the nominations because of that? Because my opinion is different? You can't have it both ways.

You can't ballot stuff because there are several mechanisms in place that prevent it. I won't tell you what they are, because obviously it'd be easier to circumvent them.

I don't complain or cry, I just discuss for fun, like I said. I'm not the one whining about Six Flags have poor customer service, am I? What's the difference? Maybe you should stop talking out of your contradictory pie hole.

I don't have anything bad to say about CP except that it's not one of my favorites. Where did I complain about them?

-Danny

Jeff - I understand that the poll is a popularity contest and that you have no control over who gets nominated. To be honest I'm not sure what a good solution would be to keep the poll democratic yet make sure an undeserving nominee doesn't sneak into the list. Perhaps a committee can review the Top10 vote-getters in each category, like what happens at the Grammys?

Anyway, its a minor beef at best. I appreciate the effort in putting the poll together. No matter what the results were people are bound to be unhappy...you're screwed no matter what you do ;)
