Cedar Point says Top Thrill Dragster is done, sort of

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point today announced on Twitter that Top Thrill Dragster is being retired, but they're hard at work creating a "reimagined" ride experience.

The ride has been closed since August 2021, when a metal plate detached from the ride and struck a guest in the head, according to a state investigation.

Oculus (sorry, "Meta")

Yeah, it's amazing. My 12 year old daughter bought one (at age 10 with her own money) that she lost interest in, and now my 16 year old son pretty much owns it. As a racing game/sim enthusiast, I keep holding out hope that some developer will come up with a way to integrate the Oculus with Xbox. I have a full racing seat with wheel and pedals setup and to be able to freely look around while racing would be a literal game changer. At the very least I'd be able to avoid more wrecks by being able to see other cars next to mine.

Wait, you don't use rewind in Forza? 😀

That racing setup is glorious. It's frustrating that Microsoft hasn't just allowed VR headsets to be plugged in to let developers have at it. I guess you're going to have to go full PC or PSVR 2 for that.

I have a feeling that's because of the size of the potential market. VR keeps coming back in waves and never sticks for any broad adoption. I'm not saying there isn't some demand, I just think it's niche. What you really want is Vater's setup in the middle of The Volume AR set that Lucasfilm and Marvel use. That would be insane.

Take it with a grain of salt until someone can confirm, but according to the Theme Park Predictions channel, there has been track removed from the brake run through the station.

Last edited by extremecoasterdad,

That’s been mentioned by several sources which I’m sure is where Theme Park Predictions got the info.

Ah ha, so the truth comes out. The new ride will launch in reverse using the old brake run. :-)

But will you save the galaxy?

My backwards spike doesn’t seem so crazy now, reverse stations, build a backwards spike. Might be the end of Iron Dragon.

Maybe they'll add that barrel roll they took out of Maverick.

Hi

Transfer track, storage tracks, and track in the entire station and last brake are gone as of this evening.

Since when did ElToroRyan become an authority on this subject matter? He’s one step above the Lemon Chill guy.

For once it's not the Sentinel that is giving a paywall

Yeah, that's super lame. It wasn't there when I originally posted it.

Very weird. I don't have a cleveland.com account and no paywall is coming up for me.

Promoter of fog.

It was immediate for me. Maybe it’s tied to something else.
