Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point announced this morning Top Thrill Dragster, the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world. The Intamin "rocket coaster," which has been under construction for months, is 420 feet tall and launches riders 120 mph in four seconds.

Am I really that shy?

Ok, a few things at once:

On the topic of having 6 trains, the only other single-tracked ride to have 6 I think is California Screamin', and that ride has over 5000 feet of track! That makes TTD even more impressive to me.

There's definitely a few others out there. Oblivion and G5 come to mind, for instance. These even do basically the same thing that Dragster will be doing -- load two trains simultaneously, advance them to the course (lift hill for the B&M Vertical coasters, launch area for Dragster), and bring forth two more to load.

Glasses -- I'll be disappointed, but not surprised, if they make me take my glasses off even with a strap. I've only seen this at a few parks -- SFA and SFoG (Superman Ultimate Flight only) come to mind.

I'm looking forward to this ride, but I'm even happier at the thought of the other lines getting shorter. :)

Maybe Millennium Force lines will be shorter... Or Raptors even? ;)

OOO! *claps* I am thrilled. I am already planning on being there the day this sucker opens! So living in Ohio does have a few redeeming factors after all!

Re: Cedar Point's 'theme'? Roller Coasters of course!

I can't wait till summer. The ride will be an instant hit. However, all throughout the construction of TTD a lot of people were bashing it. After "Sweet 16" was announced, everyone loves it?????? I always thought it would be a great ride knowing it was being built at CP - Quality. Hey, I'm not raining on the parade, I'm just telling it like it is. Where are all you naysayers at now?

P.S. ~ Dorney Dante, you hit the hammer right on the nail. Bigger isn't always better, but Cedar Point does include quality in their attractions. What they need to build is a new woodie.

So where are they gonna relocate Trokia and Choas to?
At Knotts, xcelerator is usually 1/3 as long as Ghostrider's line, our equivilent to Millenium Force, the flagship ride.
Sic, just Sic
It is days like today when I wish that May was a week away instead of four months...

John Peck, they did mention somewhere at www.cedarpoint.com that those two flat rides will be moved to the WT midway.

I wonder how long it will take for CP to expand into the water. Heck, Lake Erie's polluted enough, it can't get worse!!

As long as the next woodie doesn't have the neck breaking brakes (a la Mean Streak) at the end I'm all for it!

I really love the look of those trains. Woo hoo! I can't wait.

Anyone else notice the nice feature( at least on one of the rendering) of having viewing stands next to the launch for those that want to sit and watch?

Holy Cow! I can't wait to get to Cedar Point! I have to ride it!

I like it. The name, the trains, hell, even the layout. How could you not look forward to the mother of all top hats?

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

For the people that said taller isnt always better...

Yes, you are truley correct for the "Fun and excitement" of a ride... However. After jumping out of an airplane, NOTHING has come even close to the three day areanaline (sp?) rush! Finally something that will come darn close!

Also, for whomever said that they would like the 270 twist going up.... I imagine they did it this way do to friction loss during the twist that would cause a need for a few more MPH. Also, I would rather see the ground twist than the sky, and to twist towards the structure will be intense!

I would also like to repeat what I said in August... Sa-weet!And I guess the guy I talked to eating lunch that said he was pourin concrete was right 420'.. But said 123mph... close!

See all you peeps there!

Wow, I did skip a big part of this, but I don't think I found a single completely negative comment on this. There were the comments about bigger not being better, but those wern't completely negative IMO. Anyway, that's really good that there's finally a ride that has such a high percentage of people saying it looks awesome. I agree with these people. There's always the chance that it could dissapoint me, but I'm doubting that this will happen.
I think we will soon apdopt the name "TTD" ah nice
to coin a new abreiviation!

Looks like the announcement has found its way to Slashdot.
GregLeg- you're right. I thought about that (dive machines, wild mice) a little later. Even so, how many people do the dive machines hold? Perhaps one of few to run 6 "full size" trains.

California Screamin- it's good!
