Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Point announced this morning Top Thrill Dragster, the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world. The Intamin "rocket coaster," which has been under construction for months, is 420 feet tall and launches riders 120 mph in four seconds.

5 words. I can't wait to ride!!!

Mommy! I thought that millennium force was crazy !

Kick the Sky,

It looks more like CP's giving SFMM the middle finger, but phallic would work too. ;)

the nasai goes:

"why not just call it Super Neato Space Launch?"

Because CP isn't a super-cool Japanese park!

Has anyone found a higher resolution video than the ones they have on Cedar Point's site?

Wasn't sure if I was going to make it back this year. Guess I'll have to book a room now.

.. I wouldn't count on the abilty to wear glasses at all.. Strap or not.. you loose them at 120 mph, and someone is getting hurt..

Just watching the video (albeit a bit cheesy) sends shivers down my spine :)

Oh, please. As extreme as the forces on this ride are, there are absoloutly none (on this ride) that will take off strapped glasses. Actually, there's really nothing that'll take off un-secured glasses, provided they fit halfway decently. If CP doesn't let me keep my glasses on (with a strap, of course), I'm going to lose a little respect for them.

Even still, OH MY GOD. Yeah, we all knew it... But seeing it like this is just amazing... A full 400 foot drop!!!!!! Holy Cow!! I've really got to get a job so that I'll have some money to get out there this summer.

Where are these trains?

Nevermind, found them on the official CP site. *** This post was edited by Nate on 1/9/2003. ***

Holy Coaster! TTD is going to be awesome! The 270 degree twist on the way down looks like soooo much fun. I can't wait!

420 haha

Might as well chuck that respect now...you won't be able to wear glasses, even if they are staple-gunned to your face.

Thanks wahoo, but I like to form my own opinion. They're ugly.

Am I really that shy?

Heres some things people asked about Xcelerator that no one has really answered yet. They are throught the thread.

1. Someone asked why Xcelerator doesn't have more trains, and then later asked why not an unload station. Well, if you've seen aerial pictures, you'd notice that the launch and Supreme Scream's queue surround the station. They couldn't have a station before the turnaround because the transfer track is the only level part of the break run straightaway.

2. Xcelerator has 6 ride attendents (one of them also doubles as the operator in the purple unload booth), 1 operator for the ride operator room, a "grouper" (the position hasn't been cut even 5 months after they cut assigned seating- so all they do now is talk about Dragster to the guests and tell people the best seats and such, its a people skills postion), a person at the exit for Handicapped riders, and the greeter at the entrance who measures people if they look like their waist is over 38 inches (this is the waist size Xcelerator's seat belts can handle). The dispatch interval lately have been going around 1 minutes and 45 seconds, but a lot of that time is spent with no train in the station or unloading, checking restraints after guests are seated takes no longer than 30 seconds, but one ride attendent is usually slower than the rest (not necessarily her fault- her because the women usually have more trouble tightening the seatbelt until they ABSOLUTELY CANNOT be tightened any more), and adds up to 15 seconds to the checking seatbelt time occasionally. The ride ops also collect all loose articles directly from the train, full service style. Its a lot faster than having a dumb guest take 20 seconds to put the stuff in the cubbies themselves. its impossible to steal anything from the cubbies cause they have a slifing door and if someone takes a little longer than the rest getting to their hole, and the stuff is missing, a ride op can identify the theft's clothing, sex, build as they run down the ramp and through the picture booth and call security, identify the theif, and have security review the surveilance cameras located in the station.

3. Don't be worried about the launch's intensity. Xcelerator's acceleration is almost 20% faster (also can be said that its more intense) when you do the calculations. 2.3 seconds on Xcelerator vs. 4 on Dragster, and 120 MPH on dragster and 82 on Xcelerator. 120MPH will be SOOOOOO fast. No one compains about Xcelerators launch being painful.

4. Knott's loose article policy is pretty weird. Its either all loose articles must be taken on the ride, or absolutely none at all. The only exceptions i can think of is ghostrider and monte, which if you hold in your glasses during the loop or big drops and airtime, you are allowed to wear them. No way in hell can you wear glasses on Xcelerator or Perilous Plunge now, since they have cubbies. Cubbies have begun sprouting up on multi train intense rides. supreme scream has good shelves for loose articles, and they're higher class than Maliboomer's buckets on the floor not attached to anything. You can be sure no one will steal them, but you can forget to take them with you, which means you get to go into the ride contol room (or at least go to it and knock on the door and glimpse in) to identify it.

Remember how the knotts press release said in black and white that the station would be chrome and glass? Not so. Don't get so hyped up for trains that look exactly like that, have spinning tires, and smoke effects during the launch.

love the ride...name has got to go...

I actually like the name minus the Top Thrill part. And I think Cedar Fair has done a good job in the logo dept. this year.

0-60mph+ in 2.5

The biggest, tallest, fastest, most annoying gimmick got old like 5 seasons ago. Cedar Point needs to learn that that just because its the biggest doesnt mean that its always the best. Get a new gimmick CP.

"You know its a good ride when you come into the final break run wiping tears from your eyes"-me

No, get new wood. No gimmicks; just pure, classic fun (unless they slap some trims on it like...while you know).

But yet the biggest and the fastest happens to bring in crowds, money, and the #1 steel coaster award, well in America.

I think it's cool that they have the tallest and fastest rides in the world. It's like a "giant park". Everything is bigger there.
