CCI closes its doors

Amusement Business reports that Custom Coasters Intl. has ceased operations, the owner citing personal reasons.

Visit AB's breaking news.

Well, as unfortunate as this is, I hope that all of the folks over at CCI will be able to recover quickly. Don't forget, folks, that some people just lost their livelihood.

I sincerely hope that all things work out for Denise, too, and I'm glad she had the sense to close up shop and focus on her personal life *and* maintain CCI's reputation for high quality.

She may be out, but I suspect she's not down.

Ohh ok thanks. Gee, this is depressing news. I was hoping for a good wooden coaster to hit Sea World Orlando in the furture.

(That's not a rumor, I just think that they need a new coaster to boost up their "Adventure Park" status.)

Does this thing go faaaaaast!

Yes, it's the people that I think most about, as some of them were my friends.

I personally can't see "personal reasons" being the whole reason for the company's demise. Engineers don't work for minimum wage, and I can't imagine the few rides they've done in the last year were high margin. If I had to guess I'd say they just ran out of people who wanted to buy new rides.

Oh man. Boy, did the stock just go up on Holiday World.

It just sucks that a company can create such inventive and high quality products and in the end just wither.

Notice how it said that she was keeping her options open, and hoping to merge with another major company. So obviously the company isn't looking to go away, just the CCI name. Hopes are up with a merger with Intamin. I would really love to see that happen. Intamin would then become, probably not the best manufactioner over seas, but probably in the world.

This was truely a "shot that was heard around the world", but if they do merger, with any company for that matter, I would be very pleased.

Cedar Point vs. SFMM-like 15 isnt enough?

A long time ago, i heard an Intamin Woodie was coming to the US at 230 ft tall with a drop of 220. I forget which park. I'll have to look it up and post it later.

I loved CCI coasters and I always will. I hope that she opens it again.

I agree Jeff... their last two projects had to have little or no profit margin. Indiana Beach and Cliff's got some great coasters at a steal of a price. I think that they both didnt want to sell out to the other and problems arose after that. From the sounds of it, company value dropped quite a bit after the problems became more difficult to fix. I'm sure the fact that SF has steered clear of CCI over the last couple of years hasnt helped business either...

I've never even ridden a CCI, and this still shocks me. Why not just pass the company off to someone else? Oh well. I guess we won't see an operating CCI in the Southeast for a while.

First rule of any project where costs may vary for any reason: Add 15% to your estimate and charge them that. I do it with all of my freelance Web gigs and it has saved me from going unpaid several times.

Unfortunately, personal reasons could very well be the end all of CCI. While they haven't done as much business the past couple years and the immediate outlook isn't that great, divorces can get very ugly especially when it comes to business (my brother-in-law had to desolve his company, lost his house, car, etc. because of the way his ex-to-be was "handling" things).

Main thing to remember is there a lot of great rides out there due to CCI and God willing will remain operating for many many years of enjoyment. I wouldn't count Denise out, she'll be back one way or another.

I guess the new wooden coaster for Enchanted Village won't be CCI.

Shoot, I always add at least that much if not more to the estimate and I always double the time I think its gonna take to complete the project. That way when I finish early, its a pleasant surprise to the client!

For an extensive project like LoCoSuMo, you would think that it would cost alot more than $900,000.... but that's just me... Profit margin on it had to be non-existant!

From looking at the layout of the Enchanted Village woodie, its pretty obvious it was gonna be a GCI... It definitely has that GCI twistiness :)

Its a shame to see CCI close its doors. They have definetly impacted the coaster world over the many years they have been manufacturing coasters. I think that eventually a new company will come about very similar to CCI in that it designs rides to fit the terrain and makes them very unique to the others that already operate these days. But again, I think its a shame to see a ruling coaster company to close for good.
No more CCI's? If CCI is closing its dores whos going to take over for building newer wooden coasters and not to mention top ranked coasters which CCI is known to make? Going to miss CCI....

Oh my, this is probably one of the sadest bits of news ever in the history of the amusement business.
I think the world hates me. Bad things have been to me ever since Tuesday. This counts.
For all those people hoping for a merger forget about it, All the statements have been pretty point blank, of "We are Closing. Period." Not "We are looking for someone to merge with" or "We are looking for someone to buy our assests".

For a company to merge they have to want to, which it is clear they don't want to, I'm shure they already have something planned, just wait a month or 2.

Has anyone noticed how many of The United States based coaster companies are going under. I'm beginning to become afraid.

Have you ever been to SFGAm and seen Deja Vu closed? If you have then go again and it WILL BE DEJA VU!

Sorry I couldn't hear you, The voices in my head are drowning you out.

A company like CCI really doesn't have any marketable physical assets to speak of. The value of the company is in their reputation and people. Unless you can keep all of the key prople together, there really isn't anything to sell. This is especially true in a small industry like the amusement business. Customers will know who is where and make their purchasing decisions accordingly.

I couldn't have imagined, three years or so ago, that someday I would be so sad hearing news like this. But that's because I wasn't always a roller coaster enthusiast.

I don't really count as one now -- I haven't ridden all that many roller coasters and I'm still terrified to ride anything too high. I've only ever ridden two CCIs!

So why does this news make me so sad? Maybe because even if I am not exactly a roller coaster enthusiast, I am definitely an amusement park enthusiast. And CCI represented the possibility that every park, no matter how small, could afford a unique roller coaster of its own. There's something about the look and sound of a wooden roller coaster that really completes a park.
