CCI closes its doors

Amusement Business reports that Custom Coasters Intl. has ceased operations, the owner citing personal reasons.

Visit AB's breaking news.

Yes this is VERY sad news, but we have to remember the great rides CCI made in their period of time. Now when any of you go on a CCI, hopefully you can cherish the experience more.

I think I can make sense of this.

It said that the close is related to the divorce Ms. Dinn incurred. When a divorce occurs, and if a prenuptial (sp?) is present, then her former husband could have had much of CCI, Inc. I believe that she closed the firm to save it from her ex-husband and his lawyers. Once the divorce is final, she could very well open it back up.

Just a thought.

This sucks. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Wow, talk about a boot to the face. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and company as they try to deal with "personal issues".

Hey man. Wanna buy some weed? Crack? Freepass on Millennium Force? I got the hook up...

Vekoma still survives. Nobody said life was fair.

The Toledo Blah, One of America's Great Birdcage Liners

as MellenniumForceX said, this could be a move related to spliting the company during divorce proceedings. Who knows what will come of it.

However, as stated elsewhere, people move, new companies form. Is my memory failing, or wasn't one of the brain trust behing GCI once associated with CCI (in around 1992 and Sky Princess)?

Also, when the great PTC started concentrating on rolling stock and stopped designing / building coasters, it did not summon the end of the the wooden coaster as we know it. Other companies started and filled the gap. Granted, one of those companies was the now (at this moment at least) defunct CCI (there, I said the dreaded 'D' word)... but I think it could mean one or more of a few things...

1) Some new company starting up, either brand new or by people formerly associated with CCI

2) Growth of existing companies (such as the equally good but less prolific GCI)

3) some remanant of CCI emerging in the future

Face it, call ourselves what we want, but to the parks we are all "GP".

Totally Bogus. I really hope that the company reforms in some form or another. CCI's were worlds above the other woodies that are out there. (IMO) Long live CCI and the rebirth of the wooden coaster.

I'm confused with GCI and CCI. What are some coasters that CCI has made?

Does this thing go faaaaaast!

Hopefully most employees will head over to oter wood companies. I think GCI will be the leader now, and maybe Intamin will start building woodies, or even Coasterworks. There goes Gadv's CCI I was hoping for next year.

PT300: The New Mexico Rattler opened last month at Cliff's. I guess it was the last CCI...

Getting some hint of it through a thread last night, I am not totally in shock now, but its pretty sad.

But theres not much we can do about it now: lets just focus on all of the great creations that CCI has brought to the amusment industry.

Never before has divorce been so devestating...

There are many other wooden manufacturers out there, but CCI was by far the biggest. Their rides were close to perfect, from the air time, to the drops, and who could forget the trick track that they throw in...

Hopefully, Intamin will bring their "Plug N' Play" wooden coasters over th the USA... but its just not the same...

Before you criticize somebidy, walk at least a mile in their shoes. That way, if they get mad, the're a mile away and barefoot!

CFM - The Rattler opening got delayed, and no new date has been set.

This has definitely opened the "wooden" door for Intamin. Now, will they enter it??? I think so.. Six Flags has shown some interest lately and that is a VERY good thing! Their new track techniques are as smooth as any woodie can be and more. Intamin, please for the love of GOD give Denise a call... think of the possibilities!!!!

Theme parks will NEVER be the same! *** This post was edited by Chris Godsey on 7/18/2002. ***

Hulk, GCI builds a lot of twisters, like Gwazi, Roar and Lightning Racer to name a few. They aren't well known for having abundant airtime like CCI coasters, but they are very well designed and enjoyable. CCI has built most of the top ten wooden coasters, like Raven, Legend, Shivering Timbers, Ghostrider, etc.

Personally I am deeply saddened by this news, but I'm sure it isn't the end of wooden coasters as we know it. GCI is still out there, as well as RCCA, Coasterworks, Vekoma and Intamin. We are bound to see an Intamin woodie here sooner or later, and I hear that the Vekoma wooden coaster isn't too bad either.

-----------------

This will really slow down the pace of woodies coming in...even though it already slow.
Wow, this one just came out of nowhere for me. A sad day indeed, though I mus tadmit I thought GCI deserved more notice prior to this.

If it is temporary in the sense that the employees will be part of a new one, then more power to them, and I look forward to seeing new designs. If not, then may they all find good work quickly.

Yeah, I guess this was what Jeff was hinting at;

"And one of those stories right now is killing me... it would depress a lot of enthusiasts if they knew..."

God, I didn't even see it coming..

Crito, ergo sum.

Coasters have been going along lately like computers did in the early '90s. The pace was furious cause there was a demand ... now that the economy is slowing and parks are filling up pretty fast and spending all their money pretty fast, the market is becoming "saturated". I think we'll prolly see another company or two either close up shop or file for bankruptcy (sp?) protection soon. After that, the industry should level off. And the demise of CCI doesn't really mean that much - from what I see they were nothing more than a loose collective of great designers - now that those designers are freelancers again, maybe we'll see more of that type of work - parks hiring one guy to design the coaster alone, rather than these larger companies. Just a thought ...
