A mother was asked to leave the wading pool at Six Flags Great America while breastfeeding, citing health concerns. If found true, the request would violate Illinois law.
Read more from The Chicago Tribune.
Again, if you don't want to go in a wading pool because a kid is being breast fed then you should stay out of them all together. Would you rather swallow some rogue breast milk or some rogue piss/crap? Because, I GUARANTEE you there is more of the later than the former.
Maybe we should ask overweight people not to wear bathing suits at the water parks so as to be considerate of other people.
And, obviously the lifeguard cared about water quality because she was asked to leave for "health reasons".
It seems like whenever someone questions public breast-feeding, he is considered ignorant or uneducated. This is not a little kid peeing in a pool that we're talking about. It is a full-grown woman who is exposing her bodily fluids over a public area. There is reason for this to disturb some people. I think it is important to respect others, even when you do not understand their viewpoints.
And pkidelirium, Shame on You! It's your opinion and your entitled to have it and share it with others, but in doing so you have the responiblity of being accountable for said opinion. I just cannot understand why someone would be so fearful of breastfeeding. What societal harm comes from public breastfeeding? If anything, society is harmed when mothers are shamed into formula just because some man (and I emphasize MALE) cannot handle the bare female breast. The harm comes in the form of less healthy babies.
Geez, at least the anti-smoking crowd can proffer some semblence of a problem with smoking. What's the problem with public breastfeeding? (Really, I am truly interested in anyone's reply)

Woman whips out boob in amusement park in front of children ... well, we must allow that, it's breast feeding, it's a natural thing, it's just a breast, why can't you just not look, or look the other way?
Am I the only one who sees the disconnect here?
LOL....what?
No, that's human stupidity. How did we get like this? We objectify women and vilify their bodies all at the same time. How stupid is that? I work with teenage girls, and every one of them has body issues because they're taught from birth that their form is dirty and they should cover it up. Douche because your menstruation smells bad. Wear makeup because you're ugly without it. Be tan because pale looks sick. Lose weight because curves mean you're fat. The list goes on and on. You can't just tell the kid to get over it, lest you forget what it's like to be a hormonal teenager desperate for acceptance.
That said, I do believe it is very inappropriate to do it in such a way that makes everyone around you uncomfortable, but that's just human decency.
And for God's sake, excrement has nothing to do with breast feeding. One kills grass the other gives a child life. They're not even in the same realm of rational comparison.

Too bored with the topic for further comments.
But if they're seen in public actually being used for what they were made for, then its an issue. (In all fairness, though, I'm sure the vast majority of Americans wouldn't really have a problem with this. The beauty of the internet is that people with other opinions seem to have a much bigger voice than they really do. Most people would just take a glance and move on with their lives, instead of taking some sort of issue.)*** This post was edited by Jeff 7/15/2005 2:25:05 PM ***

I have to disagree on this point, usually it causes the grass to grow much better.Either way, if some mom wants to feed her kid in public, more power to her. If she doesn't feel comfortable with it, then she can find somewhere more private, if wants to just whip out a tube and show everyone fine.
This is just like TV, Stern and anything else that is "offensive". Just change the station or look the other way. Its not affecting you or your kids in any way shape or form.
I never understood the uproar over Janet or T.O.'s MNF appearance.
VFG, which ads are you complaining about? The ones touting new IM smileys, or the ones that give away free video games?
Certainly wouldn't want to cash in on a girl feeling inadequate about her AIM's functionality.

Listen...my adoring peepulation and I know agree with Jeff...I've seen women breastfeeding in public before, and they've done it rather discreetly (aka holding a towel up or blanket to cover the breast) and I've had no problems with it. Even if she is in a wading pool and whatnot, that's why they clean the water every night. As long as it's done discreetly, I don't think it should matter where a woman breastfeeds.
I see women breast feeding on benches at Cedar Point and Geauga Lake all the time, but you never see the breast. If a woman is doing it discreetly (which MOST do), it'll just look like the baby is sleeping against her chest.
