BREAKING! The Bat Flies Again at Kings Island! IT IS A WING COASTER!

Maybe CF got Wingrider and the new KI coaster at a "Buy One, Get one Free" sale. :)

^^^^^Gamerguy,

GateKeeper was planned very quickly actually. I believe the plan came together during IAAPA 2011, less than a year before construction began.

Options to try to "fix" Son of Beast were still being looked at during that time. The supposed grail of the "Five Year Plan" has gone right out the window.

The fact of the matter is this....
-GateKeeper just opened last year and broke the records of Longest Drop on a Wing Coaster, Fastest Non-Launched Wing Coaster, Longest Wing Coaster, Most Inversions on a Wing Coaster, Tallest Inversion on a coaster, Most Coaster Track at one park and Most Rides at one park.

So now, the year after that record breaker opens at the chain's flagship park, a wing coaster that breaks all of the above records except for the specific park records, length & tallest inversion at a park just a few hours drive south at another one of their parks that are the largest and most popular? This isn't a WindSeeker talk...this would just be weird from that point of view.

But I will be honest, Wing Rider or Inverted, I don't care. I will probably love it either way.

They actually picked them up at a yard sale. They were on the 50 cent table and all Cedar Fair had was a dollar bill.

Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Work for the fleet of Windseekers.

No it didn't... ;)

But there's no refund when it's a firesale.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

How about an Inverted Wing, the tracks on the outside the wing train on the inside..hmmm

How bout if I just rest my weary ass from all this until Thursday night?

Why? Isn't this fun? If CF were smart, 12 hours before the unvailing they'd release the page again with slightly more info, better looking page and all that. What do you thing would happen to the blogosphere if that happened?

So us nerds would be wetting ourselves - just like we are already.

Still not sure why the parks cater to and focus on us so much. Seems like PR time and resources could be used in much more efficient ways.

Because enthusiasts tell their non-enthusiast friends. Word of mouth is cheaper than ads.

Maybe the name of the new coaster is Racer's Revenge. I mean, look what I found under the phrase, "Racer Cam":

Why would you bother making the official send out the decoy? If that's the case, it may be the most horrible PR move ever.

Explain how this is the most horrible PR move ever.

Coaster forums have been ablaze with interest in KI's new coaster for a very long time. Just as the calm before the storm was starting to set in (people seemed sure they already knew the announcement), they unleashed this, and interest is now at a new climax...right before the unveiling.

The decoy created an insane amount of additional excitement and attention (plenty believe it's completely real since it was on the official website), and the unveiling still has an element of surprise that will likely be more attended now (thus drum up even more interest).

I think the more horrible PR move is what Six Flags is doing. All of their new attractions are going to be announced in a few weeks, and the interest is a tiny fraction of 1 single Cedar Fair ride. Why aren't we following all kinds of silly hints and obsessing about their new potential rides?

It was originally pointed at racer, but they just failed to update the text on the page.

No trees were harmed in the sending of this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Yeah. I was joking. ;-)

I find it interesting the number of enthusiasts who grossly overestimate the number of enthusiasts. I suspect that few people you see entering/leaving Kings Island today would know that the park is getting a new ride next year and even fewer would know what that ride is rumored to be and even fewer still would know anything about the info that was posted yesterday. And fast forward to the day after the park makes its official announcement, those numbers will not have changed that much.

It's funny that KI is ticking off the people who go to the park the most. That's not a good business strategy.

We are not the ones who go to parks the most.
