Big Chief announces plans for a new coaster in 2005

I guess it depends on which side of the fence you're on. ;)

Although from what I just found out earlier tonight, I would argue the parks claim about *midwest*! Darnit...now I can't sleep!! :):):):):)

Oh man. What wonders that will do if its say an Intamin hyper like S:ROS at SFNE. Although, I still wonder how they are going to pull off turning Big Chief into a full fledged amusement park. I mean, are they going to start adding regular flat rides and landscaping to become more like a regular amusement or theme park? Or are they going to still be mostly Go Karts and Roller coasters for the next few years.

The tallest coaster in the midwest? Just like Zeus, the fastest coaster in the midwest at a whopping 60mph! Even not counting Ohio, what about Raging Bull and American Eagle in Illinois, Shivering Timbers in Michigan, and Wild Thing in Minnesota? Are none of those in the Midwest? that's some really sketchy marketing...

FYI, Big Chief always billed Zeus as the midwest's fastest wooden coaster. Additionally, I don't know where the 60mph figure comes from or whether it's accurate or not, but the lowest point on Zeus (either mid-turnaround or just before) is much lower than the bottom of the first drop.

It's also possible they're building the tallest wooden coaster in the midwest, not tallest coaster in general. But God help us if that's true.

Big Chief has always offered a POP option (at least for several years now) but I've only taken advantage of it once. I'm excited that the park is expanding, and it will be interesting to see what kinds of things get added and in what direction the park goes. It will also be interesting to see if improvements in customer service, employee training, and landscaping improvements accompany this. I wish them all the best, but I'm not sure what to expect at this point.

Either way, this is an exciting time to be living 45 minutes from the Dells!

My recomedation, dont have five areas (northeast, southwest, south, midwest, northwest) but have five (add plains) here are the states:

NE-ME, NH, VT, MA, CN, RI, NY, Penn, NJ, DL

South-VA, KN, ML, TN, AL, LA, AK, GA, FL, NC, SC, WV, MS

Midwest-OH, IN, IL, MI, WI, MN

Plains-ND, SD, NE, KN, MO, IA, OK, TX

NW-MT, WA, OR, WY, CO, ID

SW-AZ, CA, UT (except for the little area around Salt Lake it fits best here), NM, NV

Except that the area you labeled as the midwest is NO WHERE NEAR the west. Maybe you should call it the "Ohio River Valley" since that is what it really is. Yes that area was once the "Midwest" because the West began at the Missippi river, but amazingly enough we had the Lousiana Purchase which made a NEW west and now the area that was once the "midwest" is now no where near the "west".

Wow

How about instead of argueing about semantics we applaud the park and enjoy the ride. Does it really matter how big it is if it is a good ride? Does Raven set any records? I rest my case.
According to my Associated Press stylebook, Midwest "generally" refers to the states in the official North Central region. The East North Central states are IN, IL, OH, MI and WI. The West North Central states are IA, KS, MN, MS, NE, ND and SD.

So there's the "official" definition.

And Swoosh, just because the Midwest is no longer an apt name doesn't mean we should change it. Rhode Island isn't an island, either.

"So now according to Moosh's thinking, Chicago is now an Eastern city."

Hey...I didn't say my idea was perfect ;)

Actually what I had in mind was this: the dividing line would be the Mississippi from the delta north to the Ohio River, and then up the Illinois/Indiana border to Lake Michigan.

That would make Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana the eastern-most Midwest states; Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi the western-most East Coast states.

And we'd forget that little sliver of Michigan stuck to Wisconsin that no on lives in, OK?

Forget da Yoopers??

Oh, I suppose. Most of 'em are just silly Cheesehead fans anyway...

No one is arguing. We're discussing. And I, for one, am enjoying reading how other people categorize states into those areas. And I agree with Swoosh...the term "midwest" originated when Ohio was the middle of the country.

As for Big Cheif's '05 coaster, I'm about as excited as one can be without knowing actually knowing anything about the ride. But good for them!

There is clearly some confusion over how the United States is broken up. Has nobody noticed that Disneyland is a nearly perfect analog for this very purpose?

I live only two hours from Big Chiefs so I'm excited no matter what they install. There's a billboard for Triton just down the block from my house taunting me every damn day. :) *** Edited 1/22/2004 6:18:15 PM UTC by Phyter***

You saying that the city of St. Louis is lying when they claim to be the "Gateway to the West"? ;)

Seriously though, I like Touchdown's breakdown. It sure to me seems like states like Nebraska and Kansas should be given a different denotation that Illinois and Wisconsin. If I had my druthers it would be pretty much as Touchdown said. Although I would re-name Touchdown's "Plains" region Midwest and Touchdown's "Midwesr" region I'd call MidEAST.

LOL! Thats great Phyter, Toon Town indeed! Gotta love living in Fantasyland!

Miler's only other Water Coaster at Enchanted Forest is suppose to be pretty good. Haven't been on it yet, but it's gotten good reviews from what I've heard. Hopefully Triton will have more drops, since Miler's not afraid of including fantastic ejector air on their coasters.

Having lived in several locations around the country I would deam the midwest to stretch from Ohio to Missouri east to west. So Indiana Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa are all included. Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas are close calls geographically. But socially I think they are more akin to the south.

North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and much of Texas is the plains. You could also include half of Colorado and Wyoming, because until you reach the rockies you are still definately in the plains.

Other than that the rest are pretty easy. West, Northeast and Southeast.

Well that explains it....all those people in KAHL-e-FORN-ya live in *fantasy land*!!

LOL Phyter...but what about Alaska?
Pretty easy huh? Then tell me this, where is the dividing line between Northeast and Southeast? (not an easy question)

Actually, if the west gets a "mid" area, the east should get one too. Ohio is in the Mideast! ;)

The same as it was in the Civil War!

Maryland and West Virginia would be the southernmost northeast states.

Virginia would be the northernmost southeast state.

Wait a minute....what about the mid atlantic states? How and where do they fit into this mess?
