Knoebels is very open to the whole "snapping" practice on their Flyer, but it's the aggressive forcing and slamming of the sails that's forced them to put up the sign.... So, overall, feel free to snap - just take it easy on the ride.but then Dexter said:
If anyone snapped the Flyers, he threatened to "turn the ride down from 10 to 3 for the rest of the ride", and the person snapping them,"would not get on this ride for the rest of the day."So, the question still remains, which is it that is not allowed: Agressively, and unnecessairly, slamming the rudder / sail back and forth, or "snapping" the flyer even with gentle movement of the rudder / sail, or both?
Well, officially (that is, from the voice of Knoebels' administration itself), it's quite allright to "snap" the ride, but not to slam the sails back and forth. I have a feeling, considering the relative newness of the "no whipping" signage, that the technicality of the rule might not have settled in clearly with some of the ride ops. A shame, but I have a feeling that the matter will be cleared up eventually.
However, I wouldn't assume that it's our responsibility to correct an unsure op ourselves - the last thing we need is a resentful op on the Flyer!!! I can see months and months of no snapping whatsoever...
It was kind of funny - there were single kids 10 or 12 snapping the heck out them! It must be incredible to have such a small amount of weight in there. They looked to respond so much faster than with my 225 lb. butt in the tub.
To being an "us" for once - instead of a "them".
I took one ride tonight. Although I didn't have my favorite tub I got a few snaps nothing to write home about but I did get a few good ones in front of the ride op and nothing was said. I just think it may be ride op discression.
I heard from some ops it's no snapping and others don'e really cars. I guess it's the luck of the draw. I guess it's good Jack from the bumper cars doesn't run the Flyers. He runs a tight ship over there although it would be alot of fun hearing him yell into a mic "One rule only, No snapping the cables!" then start the ride. :)
Actually made it to the park before the end of the season on Saturday, Sept 25.
Not sure if the Ops were just not watching or jsut not caring or what... but there was some wild snapping going on that night. Actually, I think the two wildest rides I ever had on the Flyers were my last two on Saturday night.
The strange thing was this... with the "do not whip the sail" sign, I was being very cautious to not move the sail side to side very fast, and in so doing, I think I finally really got the hang of it. I always heard (and even stated myself) that you don't need to snap the sail to make the tub snap.... but until I was actually being careful to keep it to smooth, actually gentle, turns of the sail, I think I was over doing it. By cutting down the movement, I actually got some snaps that made me a bit worried!
