Any Michigan's Adventure news?

I think if they are going to build, they should do it at MA where it is very badly needed.

It would appear that the executives disagree with you. It would also appear that the people actually paying to attend the park disagree with you as well. It finally appears that nearly everyone else here on CBuzz disagrees with you.

I think that leaves you solidly in the minority. I don't expect that to change your mind, as nothing seems likely to do that, but the facts are what they are. Maybe this will change next season. Hope springs eternal, after all.

Let me play devil's advocate for a moment...

I am not extremely familiar with MA, so I need to ask, is that park often very busy? Could they benefit with a few more rides to add to overall park capacity? If they are as successful as stated, then is there a chance that they are too small for the large crowds that they get? Could an expansion help with the park experience?

The water park can get pretty busy, but I wouldn't characterize the rest of the park as getting particularly "busy" most of the time. I still maintain the opinion that the "dry" part of the park is rather over-built.

To answer your question LK, MiA had close to 19000 attendance yesterday. Unfortunately that number is an anomaly, they average 11000 to 13000 most normal saturdays, and anywhere from 5000 to 8000 every other day of the week.

This is my take as well---if there is expanding to be done, it should be on the water park side, IMO.

Also, waterpark rides tend to be much cheaper investments than dry rides. Win-win for the park.

I think a toilet bowl like slide would be a hit. A surfrider thingamajig would be cool also, except for it would be such low capacity. Honestly, I think it will be another year before another investment is made at MiA. Then again, if it's not broke why fix it.

The only BIG news that Michigan's Adventure has had since Thunderhawk being added to the park would be upgrading Beach Party in the waterpark. I personally believe that the removal of Falling Star is only the start of a plan to place a larger attraction in the section of the park that has many carnival style rides. This would also go along with Cedar Point getting rid of two of their rides, so they could be adding them to the park. Michigan's Adventure generally add's a new attraction to the park every 3-4 years, but technically speaking Beach Party isn't a "new" attraction. They just removed the old wooden attraction, and made a bigger and better steel one. I expect a new attraction soon, most likely a ride in the Amusement Park, not the water park only because the water park is basically full, so there's no room in that section unless they were to do some major renovations to the park.

Uh, no.

If you think that they may be adding Disaster Transport to Michigan's Adventure, I would suggest going to Screamscape and looking at the video that someone took of that coaster's demolition.

We've got lots of destruction right here.

Boy, that thing looks like it came down pretty easily. :)

Destuction... Wait til they take down Space Spiral. Didn't "Hildebrandt the Destroyer" say it would come down "quickly"? I may have heard him say they would "pull it down".

I think the correct terminology is 'TaEr it down."

All of your estimates are definitely on the high side. I would be surprised if MIA has ever had more than 15,000 in the park in one day.

I didn't say those numbers were estimates, those numbers are legit. As I said earlier in this thread a good friend of mine has been in the maintenance department at MiA for almost 10 years, he's the one that gave me those numbers. From what he told me if you park mid-Timbers there are almost 13,000 people in the park.

I was thinking this thread was already dead. But, I agree with the crowd estimates that Corkcrew Follies mentioned. There may not be 13,000 people in the park every day, but I'm sure there are days when it could be up there and more. MA is very spread out, so it is hard to tell how many people are actually in the park. But, if the parking lot is full, you can bet there's probably closer to 20,000 in the park, or more.

But, it would be very interesting to know exactly how many people are there every day. Like Cedar Point, tour groups also show up at MA on busses, so you have to take them into account as well. I just know when it's packed it shows.

I didn't do it! I swear!!

With all the park announements....this time of years always feels sad for MA...LOL

But not nearly as sad as this thread continuing for 8 months. I was never a fan of Jack Kevorkian, until now.

Himself quite the adventuresome Michigander...
