2008 Holiday World announcement

PhantomTails, I wish you wouldn't twist words around. Nobody mentioned anything about Bakuli, let alone complained about it.

I just don't see how Kima Bay is going to get many people excited considering its similarities to Monsoon Lagoon IMO. *** Edited 9/20/2007 4:38:42 PM UTC by RushStreetFlyer***

Well, you buzzer's have shown your *sses today.

The first post after the confirmed announcement was negative. Well done.

Let me explain why this is a GOOD thing for you, (even though there was no gravy buffet).

More capacity in the Waterpark, especially a play fort, sucks more people out of the ride section of the park. On busy days, the Waterpark maxes out, especially the first bucket structure. Building another one allows for more parents to quickly whisk those kids to the waterpark, causing the lines on Voyage, Raven, and Legend to drop. The faster parents say "alright, we're all heading for the water park" the better it is for you as a coasternerd.

Case in point, Memorial Day weekend '07, as soon as SS opened, the horde descended on the waterpark, and the lines on the coasters dropped dramatically. The Saturday of a major holiday weekend, and the line for Voyage at 1:30 p.m. was 12 minutes. Care to hazard a guess what the line for the Beast was on that same day? It sure as hell wasn't 12 minutes.

As someone else said, HW has added a major expansion to that waterpark every year. Honestly, the growth in the waterpark is what has built the attendance base to support their ability to build three wooden coasters. It's not the other way around folks.

My entire family has shirts that state: "Friends don't let friends go to Purdue." :)

My oldest just graduated from Rose-Hulman (two undergraduate degrees and a Masters in 4 years, the slacker) and headed straight to a job at JPL.

Not that I'm a proud mom or anything...

I don't even want to say on this forum what tee shirts say here. ;) But then again who's got Neil Armstrong coming for homecoming at his alma-mater?

Bummer, I had my fingers crossed for a new flat ride. Not really into the waterpark thing, but I guess this is good news to those who are.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

According to the "whats new" we should watch for other announcements in the Holiblog.

As an old fart and a parent (even though my "baby" is now 21), I know how another play area will be welcomed by all those season pass holders. If you haven't seen how busy Monsoon Lagoon is on a very hot summer day, then you wouldn't understand. And they added more slides. How can anyone complain about getting more slides???

Very nice, good to see the waterpark is packing them in well enough to justify adding something like this.
And there's a lot of room for more announcements, financially speaking. From the press release:

"Kima Bay will cost $1.7 million, part of the parks' $6 million expansion budget for 2008. Koch says he's still in the decision-making process regarding additional new attractions and infrastructure improvements; further details and announcements will be made on the parks' website and blog this fall."

$4.3 million is still a nice chunk to work with!

I would personally be happier with the swinging ship idea. Adding more flats or a steel coaster would be better to me.

I am not a water person at all. Lilly white guy that I am fries up in those situation.

The only good thing I see is that it will attract more people. Or relieve watever capacity issues occur in that part of the park. I did read a complaint in here about the locker rooms. Either way it could possibly create shorter lines at the coasters. So why complain?

Maybe will have something new to be "thankful" for in 2009.

Thanks for another great season, VF!

Perhaps a flat then? That's what I'm hoping for!

I honestly think this is the most perfect addition to the waterpark that they have done yet. But hey if that was $1.7million.....where is the remaining $4.3million going? Guess you will have to stay tuned to find out. LOL!

Again Holiday World knows their guests better than anyone else. Maybe in a few more years, us coaster enthusiasts will see another coaster.

While I too am a lily white guy who fries in the waterpark, I am also sensible enough to realize what the true draw is for HW's guests. I certainly trust the market research and demographic studies that Will and team have used over the years to identify growth/capacity needs.

However, I will echo earlier comments about the preference for a Mack Sea Storm. That is one of my favorite, family friendly flat rides. I rode the one at Tivoli this summer, complete with pirate cannons, sound effects, and lighting. It was a complete hoot, and something the entire family could enjoy.

My personal preference is for an intermediate coaster between Howler and Raven. Trying to put a family member on "their first wooden coaster", and have it be something on the range of Raven, is a hard sell for a young one. I don't think many of you had your first non-jr coaster experience on something that big, and out of control. TYpically, most parks today have a roller-skater, mine train, mouse, or something that is not as intense as a major coaster. For comparison, my first wood coaster was Scooby-Do (pre neutering, no seat dividers, no trims, and the full three hill run back to the station). That was a huge thrill for me then, and I can't imagine going from a Herschell style kiddie coaster to Raven. Yes, I know that the height requirements are different now, and that the starting age point is higher for Raven. My point still stands that a good ride between the two rides would be a welcome addition.

It's a big leap from Howler, with no stepping stone like a mouse. Anything that is somewhere between 15 feet (Howler) and 100 feet (Raven), spinning or non-spinning, I think would be ideal. *** Edited 9/20/2007 6:07:48 PM UTC by CreditWh0re*** *** Edited 9/20/2007 6:10:34 PM UTC by CreditWh0re***

LdScotsman said:Anybody else have the webcam page crash IE 7? I haven't been able to view that page since they added the splashcam. No error reporting, nothing, just loads the page, gives the regular webcam pic, then boom, IE is gone.

Tom, same situation here, at my work station. I'm learning how to *fix* (break?) IE7.0, but can't do it here where my admin. has all the controls. When I get home to where *I* control the browsers, I'll see if IE6.0 works (probably will, LOL). Failing that, I'll check FireFox, which is rapidly becoming my browser of choice...

P.S. I think this is another fabulous decision by HW. Waterparks are ALL about capacity, and Will has been expanding SS even faster than their attendance figures are jumping...

Download the latest Java Client and the webcam page will work. Mine crashed too until I did that.

As far as the announcement goes, I'm maybe 10% disappointed that it is similar to Monsoon Lagoon. However, it will give SS yet another major (and sorely needed) boost in capacity. I'm curious to see how "extreme" the slides are. Monsoon Lagoon's slides are pretty tame. However, if you look at other installations of these Aqua Systems, it can be quite agressive.

Let's also not forget that the park has yet to announce the other $4.3 Million in park additions. You can do a heck of a lot with that much money. Here's hoping for a carousel, a swinging ship and more infrastructure additions...Especially blacktopping The Legend parking lot. *** Edited 9/20/2007 7:07:08 PM UTC by Emiroo***

I am as white as they come, but love to do waterparks when I'm with friends. The lines in SS tend to be much longer than in HW, so any additional capacity there is welcomed by me.

Will be interesting to see where the remaining budget goes. How about a Hexentanz for Gator and me? :)

Ah, bummer. I can't do that. There is another website that I go to here at work that NEEDS the older Java client. The newer one is not supported. I don't think the higher ups would appreciate it if I said that I could no longer get to a work related website but I can view Holiday World's webcam! :)

^^^Paula, Rose-Hullman is great, a friend of mine went there and got a job with Rolls Royce in Indy straight out of school. He may not be a Rocket Scientist but Jet Engines are pretty darn close.

Tom, I have that same problem here too. And parts of my job rely on that internal web app that I need the other java for.

thats 2 years in a row now that the additions have been sub par.

It's not what I wanted. Boo hoo!

Oh well, build your own park. S&S is what makes HW break one million in attendance and they've added every year. Personally I hate Kings Islands 30 minute waits just to get on a waterslide or lazy river HW adds where it's needed to keep lines down.

They said look for future announcements. Im hoping for a flat or two. You can get some good ones like a NEW TEN TUB FLYING SCOOTER for around 150 grand but IM NOT ARROGANT OR ANYTHING. :)

See you next year at HWN!
