Thanks for the tip, Gonch. :-)

I am going to Darien Lake. I went to SFA a few months ago but S:ROS was down. Never been to New England but I will get that next Spring.

Congrats to SFFT for best shows. They deserve it. Its nice to see SF get an award in something that actually matter's for a change.

And Yea MF.....#1!

I, too, preferred SFNE's ROS over MF. By a lot. MF is fast, and really really tall, but there are plenty of places to catch your breath. Not so ROS. Truth be told, I generally prefer to ride Magnum over Millennium, but I'm sure the typical line length has more than a little to do with that.

I've only been on one of the B&M hypers (AC) but I loved it. I only rode it from the back, and the 50ish gentleman next to me swore up and down that that was the best seat on the train, and he'd tried 'em all. Lots of good air, and the restraint seems to let you feel all of it!

I've not yet been on the newest rocket, but count me in the CBuzz minority that prefers TTD to Xcelerator. The latter has better air over the top hat, but the launch and drop on the former just can't be beat. Further, after the top hat on Xcelerator, I can take or leave the overbanks---they don't do anything for me at all. That whole catching your breath thing again, I guess.

Edit: If it were me, I'd put *any* of the Disney nighttime spectaculars over SFFT's laser show, quarry wall or not. *** Edited 8/27/2004 9:37:42 PM UTC by Brian Noble***

I'll concur with said gentleman. The back definitely gives some great air, the best of which is possibly on the first drop.

See, I always thought the opposite. AC seemed more forceful by a good margin to me.

I agree as well. Nitro? Zzzzzzz. AC? Weeeee!

Vater: You aren't kidding. Took my first ride in the back next to this kind gentleman, and the restraint's clicks are so far apart I had a good amount of room---despite trying, couldn't get it to click one more. The air I got on that drop was enough to get me to involuntarily curl my legs under my seat!

(Edit: made reply to Vater explicit.)

Im with Ride of Steel here and would pick MF over S;ROS. Ridden bolth several times. Everyone that I know that lives around me( MA) that has been on them both prefers MF. 6 others. None of them have ridden many coasters. Most people like yourselves seem to prefer S;ROS over MF. and you Have ridden many more coasters. Which makes me wonder if the general public prefers MF. While the person who has ridden many prefer S;ROS because of the airtime. But MF has the better experience. First drop, raw speed. So yes I can see why MF was number 1. But Hay I am brand new here. So what do I know?

-Eric: Major Parks: SFNE(homepark), SFA,SFGADV,CP,BGE,BGA,Kennywood, and Sea World: Track record 65 different coasters ridden #1 is Millennium Force #2 is El Toro and than there are all the others

It wasn't Paul Reuben, was it? ;)

Certain victory.

TTD is very deserving of its spot. It is the most intimidating coaster out there and people enjoy that. I for one don't understand how it could rank behind any B&M.

Wow...I rank TTD behind every single B&M I've ridden. It didn't intimidate me, scare me, or thrill me. Then again, it's not even in my top 50.

The more I look at this poll the more it becomes a joke.

I've always been one to point out the good and the bad of things but it's just become a bought bragging rights type of thing.

No silly, it's about selling lots of additional advertising in AT from the parks! Download the PDF... that's tens of thousands of dollars in business the magazine wouldn't do otherwise!

Not that there's anything wrong with that... I'll gladly take advertising from any parks that win Coasters' Choice Awards. :)

Gonch, I agree, Magnum should be out of the polls by now. I think any ride can have nostalgia if you put wheels on it that are too small and cause a rough and uncomfortable ride, according to some people. I think MF has alot more character, the way it roars like a train through the track.

Millennium Force has more character than Magnum? Ha! Magnum delivers all season long while it takes a few months for Millennium Force to warm up into a good ride. From opening day Magnum kicks butt all season long, but you have to wait until July to has as much fun on MF.

If you ride Magnum early in the morning or right before close, you will most likely get a trimless ride. When it's run without trims it beats MF hands down. Pure insanity describes a fully loaded trimless night ride on Magnum. And as for the ride being "rough?" I'd much rather feel the ride than have a tame train that creeks while speeding throughout the course.

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.
To the complainers: Ofcourse it's based on ridership vs quality in most cases. Some may or may not like how MF beat S:RoS, and although S:RoS looks like an awesome ride, I wouldn't vote for a ride that I haven't ridden. I have however ridden MF, and it is to date my favorite coaster, so I voted it No.1. It would be more unfair for everyone to go out and vote TTD No.1 even though they haven't ridden it.

Perhaps they could do the voting in regions in some way. That way, next to all the votes (take MF for example), you could get how many votes there are plus a percentage/number of votes from the people that live in that area. That way, if say 1,000 people vote for MF but next to it it lists that 90% of the votes came from people living within 300 miles of CP...well, you folks get my drift by now.

I have no complaints with the people who took the poll.

I do have a problem with it's tabulation.

Take all the ballots (Or even let people see them) and send em to Mitch and see how it comes out?

Chuck, Who's said his peace and will say no more on it other than I think It's not as credible as it could and should be for parks to reap the benefits and proudly display the banners or plaques.

I would probably cut off my left arm to see what the rankings would be with Mitch's system.

Wait...

I would rather just cut off a toe, but it still would be very interesting to see how the results.

Big difference between the two ROS's though, Tina. The SFDL & SFA ROS's (holy acronym Batman!) do indeed deserve to be ranked below MF...

Not on my ballot Gonch....at least not the SFA version...SFDL's went *unridden and unranked*....(but from what I hear I'd give it the nod for setting)...;)

MF had speed out the wazoo (what IS a wazoo anyway?), but just one good POP of ejector somewhere in there would've given MF a big boost...even PR beat out MF, but I don't believe any *pure* Arrows OR Morgans rated as highly...:)

edit: Same goes for Beemers, "family hypers" just ain't my gig, LOL...;)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

See, I guess I'm just gullible(?). I have been on Phantom (so far my favorite coaster, period), S:RoS @ SFA (A top 5 for me), Raging Bull ('99 pre any brakes except mid course and end..) which is also in my top 5, Maggie, and Millie. I can say that so far Phantom was my favorite, but I liked them all. I've yet to find a Hyper that I didn't like, but would give anything if Maggie would have trains like Phantom.

I think I agree with the conclusion that TTD is a great thrill, but not a great coaster. I loved it, don't get me wrong, as I love height, speed, and launch. But it only has one hill, and the face forward fall didn't do anything for me. Granted, I'll power ride the heck out of it next time I go, but its not in my top 10 due to it being a great coaster, I just like how fast it goes:).

Am I gullible, or just not as jaded as you guys?;)

I'd cut off Neuski's toe to see Mitch's tabulation too :)

Yeah, speed goes a long way (enough to wow a majority of voters) but there needs to be more. The size and drop are fun, but you'll rarely see anyone cite anything beyond that as a reason to love the ride.

I could probably squeak MF into my top 5 with a little WD-40, but...

Another funny thing is the "size doesn't matter" thing we're so fond of saying around here, yet that Steelie list reads pretty much as a "biggest coasters of the east" list.

Just an observation.

Hey, where is Jeffery R. Smith when everyone is "bashing" a CP coaster? Oh, thats right, this thread would prove him wrong, so he'll steer clear.(and yes, thats me calling him out to see if he, for once, takes the bait;)).
