2004 Golden Tickets are out

Ok, I ahve been on both MF (last year) and S:RoS at SFNE (this year) and my opinion on the matter is:

S:RoS is slightly better, but MF deserved it more this year. With the modifications and accident to S:RoS, it has gained a bad reputation as a dangerous ride (and brake failure in 2001) MF has never had 1 problem. Secondly, MF is NOT a bad ride, which is what people make it out to be. It is an amazing ride. It may lack S:RoS's thigh bruising airtime, but it has best constant speed in the world, great floater airtime and ejector on first drop and last bunny hop, the massivness os the ride is amazing, and is just a very FUn ride, not intense. S:RoS is more jammed pack. Basically, S:RoS lost because of the accident, and now it is uncomfortable to many riders, not because of the people who vote are CP fanboys.

Personally, I am glad MF is #1 this year. In my heart, it will always be my favorite coaster, but not best. Next year, S:RoS should get the top spot again. Both are great rides, and no amtter who is #1, they are both amazing rides, and always neck and neck in the voting.

BTW, glad to see my #1 woodie, Boulder Dash, get the top wooden spot. It really deserved it this year, and gives for many bragging rights.

Also of mention is Dollywood came in second place right behind HW in staff friendliness.

Pardon our dust...Signature is building for your future enjoyment!

I could take MF or SMRoS on any given day/night, and would take six of those coasters in the top ten over Magnun on most days. But thats me.

I cant think of anything at Kennywood besides the potatoe path that I would tie BGW, nor was I impressed with the food an Knoebels. But thats me.

Also, while I am glad to see two looping coasters in the top ten, Medusa is a rippen ride and I would put that in my overall top ten myself. *** Edited 8/27/2004 7:52:19 PM UTC by eightdotthree***

All I can say is HOORAY FOR THE FORCE!!!! I've been on both, Sros is amazing, but MF still kicks its butt.
You could say its a ridership issue with both Storm Runner and Medusa (I also agree that this one is top-10 caliber) but if that's true, how did Nitro make top-10?

Well, I did my part and sent the guy an email to participate in next year's survey ;) See if I can't skew the data to my liking a little bit ...

Love both MF and S:ROS, but I can't see how MF can be better than Superman. Superman is the only reason I even drive almost 2 hours to go to SFNE. I can't say MF is my favorite coaster at CP.
But I am not the one who decides. We all have our own opinions on what we like.
(By the way, for all of you who are down on Nitro, the funny thing is, its my wife's favorite ride.)

The above is my opinion and my opinion alone. If I have offended you in any way please note that this was most likely unintentional and I will not apologize for stating what I believe.

My wife loves Nitro too, Kahnverse - I mock her relentlessly for it ;)

Truth be told, I've never heard anyone in person say a single bad thing about it. The only support I have ever come across is from the handful here who agree that it's an overengineered "family" hyper.

Which is why I find the whole thing all the more perplexing - what am I missing that everyone else seems to 'get'?

As much as I love CP, I still don't understand all 4 of those coasters rankings.

MF, granted, is a top ten ride, but I certainly see S:ROS as superior and if I were making a personal list, PR would best it too.

Magnum is still (and always will be) a great ride - however, in comparison to what has been done in the 15 years since it was built, it doesn't deserve #3. I'm even all for the 'nostalgia' vote, but it really should be rounding out the top 10.

TTD - personally, it's my least favorite of the three rockets. I'm still on the side that refers to it as a great experience - it is truly thrilling, but not a great coaster. As much as that sounds like an oxymoron, I think it's the best description.

Raptor - I can't deny that this was a long time favorite of mine, but as my list of coasters (specifically inverteds) grew, Raptor got passed a quite few times. I'd have a hard time calling it the best inverted, let alone one of the 10 best in the world.

I know my tastes differ for the 'standard' enthusiast's quite often, and even that everyone is different - but is there anyone here who would honestly say this is representative of their personal top ten...or even close?

How long before voting begin's on Mitch's poll? :)

Mitches Poll ususally runs the whole month of November. It is based on a win/loss of people who have ridden both so every coaster is ranked against the others without bias of most riders or park it's in.

I've been on both and I enjoy MF more.

Ok, but if you did the GTs, there would be 53 coasters in the top 50. And your homepark is Darien Lake which we all know totally sucks ass, so your opinion doesn't matter. ;)

Just jokin, don't take it personal!

--Brett, who also feels Raptor and Magnum and especially TTD are overrated (yay Talon, Nitro and Storm Runner!)

I realize that everyone has opinions and saying that Sros is better than MF or vice versa isn't an extreme thing to say, both are amazing rides. But did you notice that SFMM, that is up with CP for most coasters, didn't have ONE in the top ten, and I don't know if it even made top five as a park in the other polls!

Gonch, I agree, Magnum should be out of the polls by now. I think any ride can have nostalgia if you put wheels on it that are too small and cause a rough and uncomfortable ride, according to some people. I think MF has alot more character, the way it roars like a train through the track.

Raptor should be top ten, I think, as should Alpengiest, Raptor is intense, fast, and fun, and smooth, and there are no mid course brakes.

Lord G, I would have to concur on your opinion of the B&M Speed coasters. Even my favorite Barco-Lounger: The Ride aka Raging Bull, was rated way to well in the poll. They are nothing but family hypers with a few nice pops of airtime and ultra smooth track. My running gag now on Barco-Lounger: The Ride is to pretend I'm sleeping while going past the on-ride picture. ;)

My guess is that the general public tends to eat up those B&M Snore machines more than enthusiasts due and that is why you are seeing the higher rankings.

Certain victory.

I think part of Raven's fall had to do with no Stark Raving Mad this year.

TTD is very deserving of its spot. It is the most intimidating coaster out there and people enjoy that. I for one don't understand how it could rank behind any B&M.

The voting for top steel could flip flop for a while. It is just so close. I think CP was helped a bit this year with CoasterCon being there, but congrats to them on 4 of 10.

And I am with Kick the Sky on Avalanche. It needs more riders because it is certainly a top 5 ride.

I always thought that AC would have taken the Overengineered Family Hyper title from Nitro. I thought there were some pretty intense elements on Nitro, so much so that I preferred it to AC. However, in the last couple of years I've grown to really like AC, possibly more than Nitro. Maybe I'm becoming a wuss in my old age?

Nahhh, can't be...I still like Togos.

I don't HAVE to pretend on Ragging Bull, that thing really DOES put me to sleep...but then again, what doesn't put ME to sleep, LOL.

Seriously, can't they add more brakes to that thing? Didn't think so...;)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Sure, they could put one on the first drop, ala Mantis!

Easy does it man ;) You know me a spoiled person who doesn't deserve a rollercoaster or a new ride at my home park which is more than 2 hours away. ;)

See, I always thought the opposite. AC seemed more forceful by a good margin to me. I can easily understand AC over Nitro, but I can't understand either on this list.

Me too. Shhh...don't tell anyone.

Oh man I can't wait to finally try a ROS. The FORCE rocks but I can't wait to make the comparisons.

Big difference between the two ROS's though, Tina. The SFDL & SFA ROS's (holy acronym Batman!) do indeed deserve to be ranked below MF...

...but not by much
