Touchdown:

6 year old Tesla isn’t work 17k

Just did a super quick search for 6 year old Teslas on cars.com within a 50 mile radius of where I live and only one of the 38 listed was priced under $20k (by five dollars). Most were in the mid-20s to mid-30s, with a couple north of 50k.

Without looking, the adjuster guessed $25k, but we'll see where she lands. One problem is that Hertz seems to have flooded thee market with former rentals, though I can't imagine those are in particularly good condition.

You would imagine resale would hold stronger seeing as there are only thousands of less items to fail on an electricmobile.

If you have a Tesla and get into a minor accident, there's a 50% chance you end up with less panel gaps than when you started.

💯 true. This car wasn't bad, but our 2021 Model Y... It was so bad (got some adjusted).

That damage was much worse than what I would have thought from the videos.

Rivian makes nothing worth driving, now Lucid on the other hand.

...and Maveri, er, PoleStar.

Lots of good EV options out there now.

It's gonna come down to whatever is cheapest, probably. As much as I hated the fit and finish issues with the last one, it's pretty hard to beat the Model Y price right now. Mechanically at least we can say these have been basically perfect and without issue over six and three years.

Full-electric offerings from "normie" car brands are a lot more compelling now. You can get an absolutely lit BMW 5 series with almost full self driving on highways for less than a base Tesla Model S.

The value proposition for the Model S has sunk a great distance in the last six years. It's a genuinely nice car, but not as nice as cheaper German options.

I'm just happy to see an EV enthusiast and Tesla owner not completely simping over Tesla. Glad you realize that there are other (better?) options available.

I did the ride demo at the Detroit Auto Show and rode in 5 or so different EVs through the acceleration tests and the BMW 5 series EV was mind boggling-ly quick! However, with any premium German car (I've had 3) I'd recommend leasing.

As a car enthusiast, I'd recommend leasing no matter what. Especially in such a rapidly advancing field as EVs. I'd hate to see you get stuck owning a mechanically obsolete EV such as, oh, I don't know, perhaps, for example, literally any Tesla.

What I really want is a VW ID.Buzz, but I'm about a year too early, at best.

Oh, and regarding the equity in the car that someone was skeptical about, it's gonna be around $26k, after six years. More than half the purchase price.

Glad you’re getting a fair price, I never doubted the equity in the car, only your insurance company.

It only gets expensive when you add the optional turn signal package.

I’ll see myself out…

Not sure if they've entered the US market but in this country BYD has upended the EV market.

Considering buying a Seal myself....
