Who said that CP & MM are not competing

Which one will get the new S&S Sling Shot up and running first????
Funny that early this year MM put a stop to the KBF's plan to build a Sky Coaster and now just a few months later we find both parks (CP & MM) constructing the same new S&S prototype at the same time.Especially strange move on CP's part to add a new attraction in mid season.I like to speculate that Cp will add it just so that SFWOA can't.

Anyway, I said that Cedar Point and Magic Mountain are not competing. They are in COMPLETELY seperate markets. Close to none of Cedar Points customers (the GP) have even heard of Magic Mountain, and if they have, they could care less about what they are getting, simply because it's on the other side of the country.

Without any proof or a link, all you have is an opinion, and it's sure to stir up trouble.

We're not here to discuss what people think, were here to discuss coasters.

no there in the same market, it's caled ROLLERCOASTERS, every one in the coaster buisness is competing, ecspeacilly when it comes to records, like tallest fastes and yes of course most coasters in one park

why would CP be competing with MM their not in the same area, most of the GP who lives near CP wouldn't go across the country just to go to MM they might go to Disneyland or something and then find out about MM but their not competing,
besides if CF wanted to compete with MM they would expand KBF (which is what they are probably doing) because it is much closer
isn't CP competing with SFWoA? wouldn't it make more sense for them to take their customers instead?

oh yeah do you think CP knew about MM's thingy when they planned theirs? for all we know CP could have planned their's first! (they got the prototype) its probably just a coincidence that they got the same ride at the same time it makes no sense that they would be competing they're across the country!

oh yeah how many of the GP actually watch those coaster shows which say which coaster is the biggest? the only thing most of them see is the commercials which almost always lie and say its like the biggest or best coaster in the world
most of the GP that lives near MM don't know or give a **** less what coasters are across the country at CP and vice versa when they're probably never going to go there unless they really like coasters or passing going to somewhere else or something

Get a life..CP and SFMM DO NOT COMPETE WITH EACH OTHER!!! They are 2,500 miles apart. CP competes with SFWOA, PKI, and SFKK, while SFMM competes with KBF, and Disney. Sure they are BOTH in the AMUSEMENT PARK business, but who cares? You guys read WAY TO MUCH into the whole CP/SFMM deal...

I agree with all who said that there is to much distance between Cp and SFMM for them to compete.I am sure to a very tiny degree they want the guiness records and the throne when it comes to the coaster shows but,it all comes down to one thing,Money!These parks were all built to make money for their owners.I am going to be completely honest and probably shock people but,until i stumbled across the coaster shows on Discovery and TLC 4 years ago,i did not know that there was a SF in California or,that CP even exsisted.
Alot of the GP who make up more of the park population then enthusiasts are probably as much in the dark as i was.None of my friends know of any parks outside of the state of NJ and PA.It seems as though the only ones who recognize or look for any competition are the ones who feel these parks should or,have to compete.People who aren't enthusiasts could probably care less because, they will go to the place that is closest regardless who has more or,better coasters.
On another note,SFgadv also added a slingshot ride three weeks ago so,maybe it's just something SF is adding to all of it's parks.There is a slingshot on a boardwalk a half hour from Great Adventure so,i doubt SF cares that CP is getting one.

sure some people will see CP on tv or something and want to go there on vacation to ride everything, but what family (the people that mostly fly across the country to visit amusement parks) would go just because CP has a slingshot ride that MM did not?

Yes they do care if Cp gets one. Sf just blocked CF's KBF from getting a sky coaster.SFMM had a clause that another sky coaster could not be built within a certain mile radius from MM. How many of you would be SHOCKED to know that not only do CP and SFMM not compete with each other, but that the park's bigwigs actually correspond with each other and are actually friends within the industry. Think CP didn't know about SFMM's 3 coaster addition before we did? Or that SFMM doesn't admire and seek to emulate some of the magic that CP has created? Think again.

Sure, all parks compete for the Tallest, fastest, weirdess whatever. But it's all business, not personal.

If your park had a reputation of being the biggest and the best wouldn't you want to keep the momentum going.

Absolutely i'd want to keep the momentum going but,as much as i want to go to CP,i simply can't afford it with two very young kids and, only my husband being the money maker in the house.

I am so sure i am not the only one who can sit and watch a coaster show and gawk and then wish that i could afford to travel to all of these other wonderful parks.One day,i will get to CP but for now,i will spend money one time and have access to three SF parks without burning a huge hole in my pocket Thanks to my SF season pass.I bring my own food and exit the parks to eat and,i utilize my souvenier cup refills.If i go to a park outside my state,i am only paying for gas and parking and there is no Entrance fee or hotel stay involved.

All i am saying is,the GP will buy the season pass to whatever park is closest to them and,if they catch a coaster show,maybe they will go to CP or IOA but,unless they move to the states where these parks reside,the GP is still going to spend more money at the park closest to them and,that's all that counts to these park chains.

You are absolutely right.But, after visiting this web site you might decide to go to CP; if your in the Ohio area.People are more transit than ever people visit people or travel for business etc etc.The country is becoming smaller and smaller.I live in Michigan.When and if the opportunity comes. ive only become a regular to rollercoaster forums online (coasterbuzz.com and californiacoasternews.com) about 6 months ago, and i would have had no idea about the "most roller coaster" competition between SFMM & CP..I hadnt even heard of Cedar Point before i came on the forums! I agree with Intamin2K; most of the SFMM guests havent heard of Cedar Point, and vice versa...But im sure the owners of each park DO want to hold the record of most roller coasters in the world. It is a prestigious honor, and they will want to hold onto it for as long as they can. But they definitely aren't competing against each other for guests..like a majority of the posts on this topic have said, theyre on the other side of the country from each other! Say Cedar Point reclaim their 'most coasters' title next year, all of the Magic Mountain locals wont travel across America just to go to Cedar 'home of the most coasters in the world' Point. Guests dont give a care in the world if their park has the most, the bottom line is the quality of the rides, and both parks are very equivalent to each other when it comes to that..thats my two cents.

What does Six Flags blocking KBF from building a skycoaster have to do with Cedar Point's sling shot ride? The sling shot ride is totally different from the a skycoaster. Heck they are made by different companies.

Non compete clause for a ride
If CP builds a Sling Shot maybe SFWOA can't
or
If SFMM builds the Sling Shot CF's KBF won't be able to build the Sling Shot.
