"Which one will get the new S&S Sling Shot up and running first????
Funny that early this year MM put a stop to the KBF's plan to build a Sky Coaster and now just a few months later we find both parks (CP & MM) constructing the same new S&S prototype at the same time.Especially strange move on CP's part to add a new attraction in mid season.I like to speculate that Cp will add it just so that SFWOA can't."
that's still not CP and MM competing directly
that's CP competing with SFWoA and KBF competing with MM
yeah, but they're not trying to steal each other's customers, just in their area they are competing
Yes, and to get their flagship park to the top.
Remember there are never two winners.
There has been so many new changes in the industry in the last few years with all the cooperate takeovers.
Are you going to let SFWOA steal Cp's thunder?
Or let KBF steal MM
They are not competing directly.
But, they are competeing indirectly.

I say they're not competing.
"They" just want to bigger, better, faster rides at "their" park. So far, SFMM is doing a good job with adding new coasters.

Cedarpoint and mm are not competing for gp but they are competing for records. Ok think about it this way: say cedarpoint has the record, You are a non coaster enthusiest family that live in indiana, mid ohio, or some place like that. Either place you are going you will have to drive four hours. Would you rather go to a park that has the most rollercoasters in the world. The same is for magic mountains. They are competing for the title that gets gp away from either kings island, swoa or knotts berry farm and disney. This is the same concept as building a record breaking rollercoaster. Sixflags is a chain and so is cedarfair. They are doing the to indirectly effect each other as a company. By having the title of the park with most rollercoasters you are most definatly going to have a better chance at taking guest from other parks that which consequintly are rival companys.

CoasterBob: I deleted several of your posts because, as per our FAQ, it isn't necessary to quote entire posts that appear just above on the same page. It's a waste of bandwidth. If you want to quote someone, reduce it to the sentence you'll respond to.
Anyway, on the topic, if you go to downtown Cleveland, where much of Cedar Point's primary audience is, and ask them if they've ever heard of Magic Mountain or any of their rides, I'm certain that 99.9% wouldn't be able to tell you anything. I'm sure the same would be true for LA.
You need to keep in mind that only idiots like us travel cross-country to ride roller coasters. The parks do not compete, end of story. If you were to ask Dick Kinzel and Gary Storey (the CEO's of said parks) I'm sure they'd tell you the same thing.

I'll tell you what it's about, pride! If you had a park, wouldn't you want to be at the top of the heap? Sure, money is probably the number one things on their minds, but they want to say, I have the best amusement park in the world! Bottom line.

Word to your mothers
The truth is, SFMM and CP do not compete at all. Cedar Fair competes with Six Flags and Paramount and Disney, but it all depends on where the specific park is. If we are talking about KBF, then they compete with SFMM and Disney, maybe a tiny bit with PGA.
If it is something like Cedar Point, they in no way compete with SFMM, instead, they worry more about local market! SFWoA, PKI, and maybe BGW (kind of streching it.)
CP does not compete with SFMM. It would do them no good. What part of the GP would care if a CP commercial said: "We have this, SFMM doesn't!" Would most of the GP even know what SFMM is? Would they care? No. So why do you (Coaster Bob) think CP and SFMM compete?

Cyclops. 1900 feet of CCI goodness.
CP build something so that SFWoA can't? That's preposterous. Both parks have a skycoaster (even though CP's is bigger), both have an inverted (even though Serial Thriller is an SLC). I don't think SFWoA is hindered by what CP installs.
As far as SFMM/CP war, there isn't one. While at the park a couple weeks ago, we brought up Cedar Point and Millennium Force while in line just to see if anyone heard of it. No one knew what CP or what Millie was. So basically, I think this so called war between parks is among the enthusiasts only and not general public.
Surprisingly while at PGA, two people knew of X Flight.

Perhaps it is coinancdance that MM/CP arew getting the new S&S at the same time and maybe S&S just finished the prototype and that's wht CP is getting the ride in mid season.

I live in North Alabama and everyone around here refers to SFoG as Six Flags. Its really funny when I mention SFMM or SFWoA and they look at me with a confused expression and ask 'You mean there's more than one Six Flags?'
I'm sure the GP is like that in most places. Look at it this way, the GP probably makes up 99% (or more) of the revenue for the park. Why worry about competing with a park most people don't even know exists?

OK I have said it once and I will say it again. They are competing for a title not for gp. If they have the title for most rollercoasters in a park then they take guest away from either knotts berry farms or swoa. It is as simple as that. Just look as the title of having the most rollercoasters in the park as an advertisement thing. It is like having the tallest and fastest ride. Overall they can effect each other indirectly. SFMM is taking guest away from a cedarfair park, cedarpoint is taking guest away from a Six flags park.
