Six Flags Over Georgia announces Dare Devil Dive roller coaster

Posted Wednesday, September 1, 2010 4:35 PM | Contributed by Jeff

Dare Devil Dive's mission begins as you're pulled straight up to the sky on a special vertical chain lift, then slowly roll to the top of the tower nearly 100-feet in the air. After an agonizing pause at the crest of the summit, you plummet downward at an angle that is beyond straight down — it actually angles inward at a blistering 52 mph.

it has been Fun reading all the responses I am happy to see all the fond words and I am thrilled to hear of the lap bar set up. though it will not be all that unique since Mind bender has lap bars.

On a side not depending on date of opening Dare Devil Dive might not even be the next Euro Fighter open in the US. Since Canobie Lake Park is looking to add one for next year. (info - http://s6.zetaboards.com/New_Whalom_Park/topic/8679007/1/#new)

Haven't been on Fahrenheit, but have you ridden a Toboggan? Vertical lift inside a a claustrophobic car inside a claustrophobic tube. Fun stuff.

Can't say that I've had the, um, pleasure.

Toboggans are so much fun. I have to ride with my hands in the air to keep from breaking my neck when the ride throws you into the roof of the car.

^I loved the Toboggan as a kid, maybe 10 years old. I wonder what it would be like now that I'm 2x as big as I was then.

Toboggan's are torture machines, seriously. I quit riding those a long time ago.

Carrie, Lakemont Park has a Toboggan, which really should be but a few hours away from you. Every coaster enthusiast needs to experience the worst "roller coaster" in the world. :)

Toboggans > Son of Beast. The difference is, being thrown around an enclosed metal car for 5 seconds vs. hemorrhage-inducing jackhammering for 2 minutes.

The worst part of the Toboggan for me was the operator closing up the car and cramming the big padding down on my big belly. Ugh!

Aw, they're not that bad. But don't let that 'bunny' hill fool you. Protecting your head during the bump is the main thing.

So uh... these trains. I bet they look like this.

Here's hoping anyway. Those were the trains that appeared when Gerstlauer first updated their site with a launch coaster as a potential product. If you'll all remember, they were also used in the original still renderings for Faarup's Lynet, though obviously weren't used on the original ride. If you track down the original Lynet animation on youtube, it actually shows the lapbar-only trains, dressed up in a slightly less-open race car theme.

I think they look incredible... I'd argue better even than the X-cars as far as sense of exposure and visibility. Plus the undercarriage looks nearly identical to the 3 row/6 seat trains used on Lynet and Huracan, so I think it's a safe bet. I just hope they keep them this open instead of boxing them in unnecessarily.

Did they do an edit? PAUSE is in bold and included?

They edited the original press release at least once.

I would imagine the lap bars would be set up that way. They do look very comfortable.

^I think it's pretty clear at this point, Billy - you and I are the two people here MOST excited about the fact that this has lappies...and my HWN trip contains an SFoG stop! (Mindbender and the upgraded Monster Plantation are also on "the list").... ;)

^I gotta get there ASAP no matter what - I need my Mind Bender rides! Funny thing about the new coaster - SFOG finally has their "triple loop coaster" :)
